A Kobe tribute from my favorite Twitter person:

A Giant Loss

I always liked Kobe more than MJ because he seemed to fight hard to attain a semblance of happiness OFF the court. In a world that wanted him to have a male heir to pass on his NBA legacy to… Kobe cherished having four daughters. Not bitterly like many men would but openly and eagerly. The way he approached basketball.

Damn. Watching the Kings-Clippers from the Staples Center (which I wish they would rename in Kobe's honor) is gonna be tougher than I imagined.

During Kobe's memorial, Shaq told a story that broke up the entire crowd. He was talking about the day Kobe earned Shaq's respect.

Shaq said the guys on the team came to him one day, complaining that Kobe wasn't passing the ball. Shaq said he'd talk to him. "Kobe, there's no I in team," Shaq said.

"I know," Kobe said, 'but there's a ME in that m*****-f*****."

Shaq said he went back to Rick Fox and Big Shot Bob and told them, "You'd better get the rebound. He's not passing."

The laughter erupted in Staples and it was clear at that very moment they were going to be able to move on.
