RIP Dwayne Schintzius

I remember him from his time on the Kings. Gave his all on the court. Decent player, GREAT haircut.

"Schintzius is still the only player in Southeastern Conference history with more than 1,000 points, 800 rebounds, 250 assists and 250 blocked shots.

But Schintzius was almost as well known for his mullet haircut -- which he called The Lobster -- and the unceremonious end to his collegiate career. He quit the team 11 games into the 1989-90 season after a falling out with interim head coach Don DeVoe.

Bill Koss, a Sun Sports and Fox Sports Florida basketball analyst and former UF player from 1963-65, said he'll remember Schintzius as the first great big man to play at Florida."

Man, this a shocker. I hung with him a few times. He was a cool guy. Always had a shotgun in the trunk to go pheasant hunting around Arco during hunting season.

Vios con dios mi amigo! What a shame to go at such a young age. Makes me realize how blessed I'am. His talent never translated to the NBA, but he was hard to miss out on the court. Very sad!

Did not know he was ill. He did a stint on the C's in the late 90s Pitino era and had some awful hair as well.

If I remember correctly he had basically got rid of the mullet by then and was showcasing what was basically the haircut above minus the mullet. I would have to look it up but that's when the Kings were getting good and I remember saying something about him losing his mullet to my then GF..
