Not the way it works -- people often don't understand what the idiot lawyers are doing. Someone brings you a case, you fight it for them. Doesn't matter about your own feelings -- that's the key to the system. If the lawyers only took cases they agreed with, or only tried when they liked somebody, then the lawyers would be playing judge and jury and people never get their day in court.
You could then perhaps shift it over to the idiot judges, but in theory, in THEORY, the judegs are supposed to merely try to apply the laws as written. Of course the problem being that in America we intentionaly write laws vaguely so as to allow details to be settled in the courts.
So maybe you could perhaps then shift it over to the writers of those laws, at which point you are blaming the idiot politicans, who always make a good target. But of course in theory, in THEORY the politicians are supposed to be making laws according to what their constiuents want, and certainly in THEORY they should be voted out if they don't.
At which point the blame gets shifted over to the real problem: the idiot citizens. You are the idiots.

The right to keep and bear arms is the second amendment. It really doesn't apply in this situation as there are laws on the books about safe working conditions, etc.

Oh, we're not only the politicians, we're the judges too. We know a good gambit when we see one -- we are the ones writing the laws, arguing the laws, and deciding the winner.

I know for a fact Arenas will be suspended indefinately, and Crittenton will be suspended for no less than 30 games. Think about the Artest incident...Fighting w/fans, fighting in general, but it was televised, LIVE, NAtional broadcast, GREAT ENTERTAINMENT!!! This directly subverts everything the NBA has been working towards for the last 10 years. This is worse than the Artest fight because it involves guns. This is worse than Tim Donoghy because it involves gambling AND guns. I heard someone say something about voiding Gilbert's contract....Im not a lawyer, but if the NBAPA doesn't stand behind Arenas, and they won't; He will be forced to get his own lawyer. The NBA basically lost 10% of the wizards' revenue. Think about the Wizards and their value(which wasn't all that high to begin with). And this opens up the issue of weapons to the NBA; Lets see....fighting/brawling w/ fans - 1 year suspension ; potential gunfight in the locker room - PR disaster, disgusted fans, enraged parents, happening just as the sea was calming for the NBA. YES they will try to void Gilberts contract, and it will take 5+ years to settle, costing Arenas more than its worth in legal fees if the NBAPA won't represent him. he would be fighting for 90million+ $, but it might cost 5million to win, and 1/3 of any winnings goes to the lawyer. 90/3 - 5 = 55million....if he wins. If he looses he would be out X amount in lawyer fees. the NBA needs to distance itself from Arenas and Crittenton ASAP. sry about the scatter
Yep. There is just no way this can be swept under the rug or glossed over. You don't pull a gun on a fellow employee at the work place. Ever.

I was thinking 300 game suspension makes a statement towards the issue that will be heard loud and clear by the players and the fans, that that behavior will never be tolerated. Javaris shouldn't be punished as severely because this is America, and you have a right to defend your life by any and all means necessary. 30+ for Javaris. And 200+ for Arenas will sufficiently put his tail between his legs.
It's my understanding that some sports contracts (maybe all, if it's league policy) do have termination clauses based on certain criminal convictions, etc. So there might be a clause in the contract. My bet woul dbe that the Wizards, no matter how they feel, would "rally 'round their man" until they were 100% certain they could exercise a termination clause. With a $90M asset (or debt, if you look at it like that) you simply do not burn that bridge until you are safely across it.

Heh -- that's not the sort of lawyer a rich chap like Arenas will be hiring. That take a percentage stuff, beyond of course his own scumsucking agents, is largely ambulance chaser taking this job on spec stuff. Arenas can pay up front. And he can pay for the best. So if it happens you are talking something more like Arnold & Porter (top D.C. law firm) or some such. A retainer, exorbinant hourly fees. But not percentages.
I saw a bit of a report earlier today - cannot remember where - that it's now being said the fight between them actually started on the team plane. This just keeps getting better and better. The only thing I feel badly about is the Washington team name change a few years back.

I can imagine that since Gilbert already had a misdemeanor gun charge (not having proper license) for when he was at Golden State, it'd be safe to say that there at least should be some wording regarding guns in his contract with Washington.
That's just being stupid. If Gilbert didn't want the guns around his newborn daughter, what made it any better to have the guns around his 2 other kids.

Unless he grabbed a gun out of Arenas's locker then he should have just as many games under suspension.. There are proper channels to go through to get a concealed permit if you feel your life is in danger... If he thought his life was in danger from a fellow teammate it should have been brought up before it game to a standoff with guns lol..
So I say banish them both from the league for life.. If for some reason teams cannot do that than give them a 2500 game suspension. Basically give them some HUGE amount of games under suspension.. Like those cases where they can't give them life in prison so they give them 500 years or some weird crap lol.. Give them both 2500 games suspension. This will ensure they never play int he league again.
As horrible as this whole thing is, based on the reports that have come out so far (which are still in question right now), I don't think that either player is going to receive a lifetime ban or anything like that because of this situation. This is the same league that had a player charge the stands like a crazed lunatic and actually beat fans up, incited a riot, etc., etc. And said player is still in the NBA. People actually got hurt in the brawl; no one was hurt in this case. I'm not saying that this isn't a serious incident, and I wouldn't be upset if either player was banned for life. But I doubt that it happens, just based on history.

The only thing I feel badly about is the Washington team name change a few years back.
Read the other day that Pollin changed the name in honor of Yitzhak Rabin who was assassinated (by gun) a couple years previous to the change. I guess the double meaning about DC gun violence also stands out.

Wow, talk about irresponsible. Guns are not toys...and apparently he knows that if he was trying to keep them away from his daughter. The thought of pulling out a gun as a 'joke' is ridiculous. Pulling a gun (especially an unloaded one), without actually planning on using it, is a good way to get yourself killed.

We may never know what really happened as the spin control started almost right away. The underlying stupidity is there no matter the story. Why the heck would you take a bunch of guns to work and why would you pull some guns out for any reason, joking or not?
The story about his newborn baby is patently ridiculous. If he just has to own guns, you can't tell me he can't afford the best gun safe available or even a custom security system for them. That's certainly more secure than an arena locker.

Yeah, I don't believe his story at all. Especially now when the heat is on he's actually admitting to brandishing it in an attempt to downplay the context of it. I hope his contract is voided.
