Don't know if its been posted yet or not, but I just read on twitter that the Kings are taking over all operations of the Reno Bighorns. Looks like we have our own minor league team.

Kings and Reno

[h=1]Link to full story located below. I like this move. Hoping we can utilize Reno to its maximum potential and really create something special here in Sacramento in terms of a solid franchise model for years to come...

In an move to groom young players more efficiently and expand its fan base, the Sacramento Kings have signed a two-year deal to take over basketball operations of the Reno Bighorns of the NBA Development League basketball team.
The Kings and Bighorns are expected to make the announcement at a joint press conference tomorrow."

Good move. We can send McCallum Down, assuming he doesn't pull an Isaiah. I think that kid has potential.
me too. i think he will overtake Jimmer on the depth chart before the season even starts (if Jimmer is still on the team)

EDIT: and if nothing else, he can provide us with some highlight reel plays. man we sure added a ton of athleticism in the draft......

The acquisition of Chris Granger and the Reno Bighorns? GREAT moves. I am becoming more impressed all the time. Our owner is serious, folks. It's gonna be fun!

Good move. Wonder if this is the model of the future - where the development teams are basically the minor leagues with the ability to send players up or down, based on need. It was frustrating in the past to watch Hassan Whiteside not get much playing time, when that was exactly what he and the Kings needed!

It's worked with the A's and the RiverCats, so maybe that was the thought...

This is fantastic news.

In my opinion...if you want to have a truly 1st class organization, then controling a D-League team is an absolute no-brainer.

I'm very, very happy to hear that we are going that route with the team. It just shows that Vivek is serious about building a strong franchise.

Back to McCallum, I think people will be surprised at how athletic he is. I haven't looked at the three videos but as I remember he has a little baby fat yet can really elevate. That doesn't make him a great PG but, as one who isn't convinced IT is a great PG either, this could be quite a battle for the minutes. I hope he is at least the equal of IT as a leader as the extra few inches in height will be useful. I am not trying to start a battle of "who's better" like has been going on forever but clearly the team comes out ahead if McCallum can be a rotational PG. I just looked at the videos. He must have a decent wingspan.

As iffy as some of PDA's move's have been, Vivek is making all the right ones (aside from the PDA hire, haha)!!

Anyways, looks like this franchise is finally taking player development seriously! Almost makes me ok with the one or two more lotto seasons we're gonna have to slog through before this team really turns it around!

McCallum was a top ten McDonalds all american coming out of highschool. He was recruited by many of the top colleges in the country, including UCLA. The fact that he decided to go play for his dad in a mid level conference, doesn't take away from his abilities. He could end up being an absolute steal.

I think he was a steal. The number of PGs in this draft and the college he attended let him be somewhat anonymous. That's good for us. The battle for PG just got very interesting.

Excellent move. I was hoping they would do this. Now the Kings can fully control what happens in the D-League with their players. I would also expect that the FO would make the scouting staff deeper and better going forward.
