RECAP: #FANS (Fund Arena Now Sacramento) at Sac City Hall 4-17-12

Mike0476

Starter
#FANS attended the city council meeting to support Mayor Kevin Johnson, the Sacramento City Council, Think Big and Sacramento.

Our message was simple: #BiggerThanBasketball

#FANS had 5 speakers and saved the best for last with the 6th speaker, our secret weapon.

Bonus video of someone who has their own beliefs on how the arena was going to be paid for.

Ah, the balance of life.

Saraya, speaking with the passionate commitment of youth...and Leonard Padilla, who should be committed.

I wonder if Padilla ever gets votes outside of his family members and maybe friends? He kept saying he knew private investors who would fund an arena. Basically I told him it was easy to say that (talk is cheap), but I wouldn't believe a word of it, until he could give me signed commitments from those "investors." By the way, he can go ahead and do that, whether he's ever mayor or not, so what is he waiting for?

What a shameless name dropper and as somebody said, in our group, a gadfly.

The innocence and preciousness of that young girl really puts into perspective what these scumbags have in store for our team.. They see the team as nothing but a mere assett that appreciates/depreciates monetarily, as if there is no humanity to a community's love for a team. This whole thing is starting to trip me out psychologically.. very few people will be in our shoes, having owners who are covertly trying to relocate their team despite the best actions of the city.. and believing that there is nothing really that can stop them?! I'm too involved, might be time to just chill and believe that there are higher powers/forces that will rectify the situation

Padilla's embarrassing, I honestly feel bad for him. The guy is pathetic. He doesn't even understand what's going on, or if he does, he purposely tries to distort the truth to suit his purposes.

Yeah Padilla was revealed to be pretty much as advertised. Inflated opinion of himself with no practical ideas of workable plans. I think if by some miracle he actually got elected he would probably fill his drawers and swallow his toothpick.

But the worst thing he revealed about himself is that he is one of those who will fight to screw up any arena deal. He did so in the past with suing the city over the 1997 loan and hinted that he is playing a part in trying to stop the current arena effort.

Yeah, good old LP was full of bad info.

First he came up with that little whopper. Then he tried to say that he would support an arena if the parking wasn't leased but was bonded instead. He didn't know that that was one of the options being considered. He said that there was no cost overrun protection in the term sheet. There was more, but I don't think it is worth going through all the details and I had to leave.

KD - what was it that you were talking about off to the side, if I can ask?

You mean Kim Sloan? Funny, I can't really remember. The usual...all that money and how it could be used, etc. Basically I tried to tell her I'm for the things she's for, too and it's not an either/or kind of thing. Also told her I've worked in affordable housing for lower-income people most of my 30+ years of government service, so I knew the kinds of issues she was talking about and that I'm on the same side as her.

I suspect that Mike was born with that hat on.. If, and its a big If right now, an arena is finally built, I think there should be a statue of Mike out front. This guy has busted his butt above and beyond the call of duty. Mucho Kudo's amigo!
Yep, Mike is a real hero in all of this. He's amazing!

Ah, figured as much. But she seemed pretty interested in talking with you, so just wondering.

I don't need a statue of me but thank you. All I can do is show my support. No one person or a group of individuals can save the team. All we can do is just support the city and the team.

Long story short I have worn my standard issued BDU cap only because it was raining on the day we had a "rally" at city hall in March 2011. I could not find my Kings hat and then realized I gave it to my dad as he went with me to a few Kings games.

The only hat I could find in my closet was my standard issued BDU cap and I have worn it since in honor of my dad who served with the US Navy and US Air Force.

Thank you but all of you are amazing. I am just one person and can only do so much. I need all of you to attend and I am thankful that all of you have made the sacrifice to attend countless city council meetings, speak before the council and of course wear our white #FANS shirts.

Who's his Nice Mom?
Poor kid doesn't have one. ;) When he was a kid he was sure that I had plenty of money, but just denied him his every heart's desire, because I was mean. Generally, I was the ever-present party-pooper in his life.

I love that he has kids of his own now. ;)

I just watched the Padilla video again. Incredible uninformed man. He just spews out a lot of horse sh*t.

By the way viewers...I was wearing my #FANS tee shirt under that jacket. I just had a rarte bug to dress a little more professionally that night.
