Ranking the teams core in your opinion

#1
In terms of pieces you believe are the most important going forward for the franchise. I’ve noticed some differing opinions on this. There have been past threads about this, but it might be interesting to see where folks stand going into the 2019 season. Mine would probably be:

1. Fox
2. Hield
3. Bogdanovic
4. Giles
5/6. Skal/Bagley. I’m higher on Skal and what he’s been doing this summer a lot. Obviously lower on Bagley than median.
7. Jackson
8. WCS
9. Bjelica
10. Koufos
....

You better hope Bagley ends up #1 or at the least #2. If Bagley simply becomes a rotation level player, a ton of people should be fired given its very likely they passed on multiple star level players.

1. Fox: Speed and handle if he could develop a respectable shot would get him 20ppg. We’d need him to become atleast average on defense while brining his leadership

2. Giles: I think he has the potential to be a defensive anchor. He has the physical tools, IQ, willingness, and nasty needed to be an anchor. On offense he has a great looking shot already shooting 3s and good from mid range while possessing good passing instincts. What surprised me is his low post game he is very good with his turnaround and running hooks. I think he could pass Fox easily if all goes will and be a 20ppg good defender guy.

3. Hield: another guy I think can get to 20ppg with his elite shooting. But what was better in the second half he showed he could play decent defense to not be a liability. He also flashed some playmaking taking him from a Redick type player to a Beal type player

4. Bogdan: I love Bogdan I think he’s a teams 3rd or 4th best player on a playoff team. Elite shooting and passing but he needs to be more selfish especially from 3.

5. Bagley: Needs to add a lot of strength and become less left hand dominant. Should be very good in pick and roll with Fox/Bogdan while running the floor well too

Giles could be 2 in my books in innate talent, if health concerns weren’t at issue as well

Fox has the keys to the team.
Bagley is supposed to become a 20 and 10 all star.
Giles is the lottery ticket. No idea what his package of tools will look like.
Buddy is the outside shooter so important in today's league.
Bogi is the team's best player now, but the team will be a contender when he is not.

Everyone else can stay or go. WCS has the present value, Skal has the ceiling, JJ plays the position of need.

The team needs to hit on 4 of those top 5 guys, and get lucky with one of the other young players.

Order of importance of becoming stars (I guess that's what you mean), not best players. As in, you'd better hope for this or the franchise is quite screwed:
1. Fox
2. Bagley
3. Hield
4. Giles
5. Bogdanovic
6. Skal
7. WCS

Fox and Bagley lead the way for obvious reasons - top picks carrying much of the franchise's hope. Giles, Skal were late picks and gambles. Giles is a bit ahead in the list just because he's currently garnering alot of the franchise's hope. Buddy is one of the most promising and also sort of the return for Boogie - crucial that he becomes a star. Bogs can afford a much more linear development .. I don't think he was ever brought in with the expectation of being the 1st or 2nd best player on the team.

Slightly different list if the question is "who is most untouchable", in which case it becomes a balancing act between patience for potential and what they've shown.

I’m still a little baffled by how high Buddy is perceived on this board. I have him 5th. Please, someone, help me see the light.

He ended last season on a tear, and I thought he ended last year as the teams best player. I think he’s been underutilized. He proved a ton defensively as the season went on. His summer clips have looked awesome.

I have him as a potential 18-20 ppg scorer, super efficient, good rebounder, just a quality starting calibure SG. One of the safest bet on the team to be a good starter, starting next year as far as I’m concerned. Though someone like Bagley could have a higher upside, I factor in the floors on the players as well, strongly

the Kings' core is based on three players in my opinion, Fox, Giles & Bagley. If one of them turns into a star and the other two become at least productive NBA players, then the Kings maybe can get out of the cellar.
Why isn’t Buddy in that 3?

He’s only 24 players primes are what 26-30 he’s in a good age range.

He’s a proven elite shooter I’d say top 5 shooter, got better last year with assists, and showed he could play good defense. Give him 32mpg and shots and he gives us 20ppg on good efficiency. It’s not bad if he’s our 2nd or 3rd best player.

Giles could be 2 in my books in innate talent, if health concerns weren’t at issue as well
Until he gets hurt again I have no health concerns, look at Embiid.

Buddy will never been an all star caliber player because I just simply don't see him ever being able to get to the line enough to bump his scoring up to that level but the guy can shoot and he's becoming a deadly shooter even when the defenders are right up in his grill. He doesn't need much room to get his shot off which is going to make him difficult to guard. That step back of his is becoming a huge weapon.

I like what Buddy can bring to the team, I do. However, I don't see a potential second or third best player and that's not to say that he couldn't be part of the Kings future moving forward because he does provide floor spacing. He has made strides in playing more defense too and he puts in a lot of time in the gym so it's known he is a willing worker. That said, the success is based on the three players I've mentioned in my opinion because they have the tools, skillset & potential to be cornerstones.

You can rank basketball players all you want, but it in the end it is the consummate team game.
Team defense is what will allow the Kings to improve their record or maintain the status of the last 10 years.

Hield vs. Bogdanovic as starting Shooting Guard s a nice problem to have.

My preference right now is continuing with Bogdan as starter a Buddy off the bench and JJ starting at the 3.

Having said that, much will depend on what works out in the competion for the 3, 4, and 5 spotsnot only in terms of starting but inj terms of rotation, minutes and and success. For example, two putting out star play at PF forcing us to consider one of them at the 3 (or 5).

The core, ranked by importance:

1st tier:
Fox
Bogi
Buddy
Giles
Bagley

Honestly I'm not sure about the order of 2-5. Everytime I look at it I want to change it. But I do think we go as Fox goes. And what's exciting is that all five of these guys are capable of getting 20 pts on a given night (if given the minutes). That's some firepower if Joerger can make it click.

2nd tier:
Willie
Skal
JJ
Kosta
Bjelica

If Willie or Skal can show some consistency & intensity, they likely move up to the 1st tier. JJ also needs to show me that what we saw in summer league is what he's bringing to the NBA this year. Yogi Ferrell should probably be in the 2nd tier, but let's see how he works out through the pre-season.

Bogdan
Giles
Bagley
Fox
Buddy
These are the most important players going forward, in terms of who we can't live without. Bagley and Giles are the least informed but I hope the projection is right.
