I keep seeing comments from people who want to dump player A because he's not exactly what we need or start player B because he fits better, etc. I'm curious. What's your ranking of our players? Here's the roster (in alphabetical order).

Bagley
Bjelica
Bogdanovic
Cauley-Stein
Ferrell
Fox
Gabriel (2-way)
Giles
Hield
Jackson
Koufos
Labissiere
Mason
McLemore
Randolph
Shumpert
Williams (2-way)

Rank them either separately or by tiers. I'm not thinking about trade value. I'm leaning more towards value as a player to the Kings going forward.

Here's mine:

First tier:
Bagley
Fox
Giles

Second tier:
Bogdanovic
Cauley-Stein
Hield

Third tier:
Bjelica
Ferrell
Koufos

Fourth tier:
Jackson
Shumpert

Fifth tier:
Gabriel
McLemore
Williams

Remainder:
Labissiere
Mason
Randolph

As they are today:

First tier:
Fox
Hield

Second tier:
Bogdan
Bagley

Third tier:
WCS
Giles

Fourth tier:
Bjelica

Fifth tier:
Shumpert
Jackson
Ferrell

Sixth tier:
Koufos

I anticipate Fox, Bagley, Giles, and Jackson moving up with Fox raising the bar of the first tier.

So do you view the remainder (Gabriel, McLemore, Williams, Labissiere, Mason and Randolph) all the same? I ask because when I did my ranking I thought the first three had some if little value and the last three were of no use to us at all going forward.

I just listed the players I can see as part of our rotation going forward, which I'm happy to say is many. We can probably close the gap between us and the perennial playoff teams just by allowing Fox, Bagley, and Giles to meet their potential. Signing another talented SF would put us over the top though.

Totally agree. I can remember a time not too long ago when our lists would have been considerably shorter. It is a good time to be a Kings fan.

I was like. ... "who the hell is Randolph? Oooooohhhhhhh Z-bo!" o_Oo_O:p

Anyways:

Tier 1: Fox
Tier 2: Buddy, Bags, Giles (Bags and Giles are future picks - they aren't here yet, but I assume they will be sooner than later)
Tier 3: Bogi, WCS... both of these guys would be tier 2 with consistency.
Tier 4: Bjeli, Shump, Yogi, JJ .... roleplayers

And then the rest.

Tier 1; Giles, Fox, Bagley

Tier 2; Hield

Tier 3; Bogs, WCS,

Tier 4; Bjeli, Shump, Yogi, Jackson, Skal (I still think there’s something there)

Tier 5; Everyone else. Shout out to McBen who’s been a great Mateen Cleaves cheerleader from the bench.

Tier 1: Fox, Bagley, Hield, Giles (I'm crushed if we trade any of these)
Tier 2: Bogi (my favorite player but I think/I'm afraid the only realistic player a trade partner will really want)
Tier 3: WCS, Shump (I swallow hard if we trade these guys but I get my head around it quickly)
Tier 4: Jackson (might be a King the next 12 years and I like him - not too concerned a trade partner will want him)
Tier 5: All the rest (from Bjeli to Mason to Ferrell to Weyen... all nice solid chemistry guys - I like them all - but no core guys imo)

Giles tier 1 huh? Whoda thunk it. :p

I'd imagine the core you build around would be Fox, Bagley & Giles and the Kings have two complimentary pieces next to them in Bogs & Buddy. Now it's about growing together and filling the rest of the holes out via trades or free agency.

IMO, these 4 guys are the true core of the team. Not only for today, but going forward. The KINGS have invested the most in them and/or they proven themselves more than others.
  • Bagley: Has the potential to be a revolutionary BIG in today's game. He's already proving to be a valuable threat.
  • Bogdanovic: He's a dynamic all-around glue guy every top team needs. He can do everything well. High BBIQ.
  • Fox: Has the potential to become the best all-around PG in the league. He's already arguably one of the best at pushing pace.
  • Hield: In today's game of 3 ball, he's already among the best and most consistent shooters. But his ability to be more than a spot shooter and defensive/rebounding abilities and hustle are quickly escalating his value.
These 3 guys are valuable to the KINGS now, but could develop and evolve to join the list above. They just aren't there yet for various reasons.
  • Cauley-Stein: We all know it's consistency with Trill. If he can ever figure that out, he's a surefire keeper.
  • Giles: Everyone loves Harry's potential. But he still has a long way to go. Will he get there?
  • Jackson: Similar to WCS, it's about consistency. JJ has shown he can play. But until he can produce consistently, he's expendable.
Everyone else is a stop gap or just a marginal talent with no serious potential to be much more than they already are IMO.

Anybody that doesn't have Buddy Hield in their T1 is missing the mark IMO.

Not many teams have a dynamic shooter like Buddy that can also put the ball on the floor to score or create for others AND that rebounds and plays defense at the level he's proving to be capable of.

Is he an elite franchise talent? No. But he's still a very high level talent with skills that aren't always easy to find wrapped up in 1 player. Not only that, he's such a dedicated hard worker that he just might continue to improve his weaknesses.

While he is a great shooter and excellent effort guy, his Bball IQ has limited him on both ends of the court. I am very positive but in my opinion he is not in my T1 for those reasons.

Buddy is such a hot and cold shooter that you don't know what Buddy you are getting. He also doesn't get to the free throw line unless he's shooting technicals. Not a knock on him by any means, he's a specialist and every team needs one of those but I'd assume that's why he isn't on many peoples Tier 1.

This is exactly why Buddy doesn’t belong in Tier 1. You have pointed out the very reason yourself. He’s a very good Tier 2.

I think you’re a bit mixed up. The Kings don’t currently have an elite franchise player. Maybe in potential they do. But that’s down the road.

Buddy is as good as any player on the team right now today, which means he belongs in a ‘Kings’ tier 1. Period. End of story.

This is an interesting exercise. I don't know about the tiers deal but I would rank them in the following order:

Fox
Bagley
Giles (?)
Hield
Bogdanovic
Giles (?)
Cauley-Stein
Jackson
Bjelica
Shumpert
Ferrell
Koufos
Mason
Labissiere
Gabriel
Williams
McLemore
Randolph

It was tough because the question is about value to the franchise moving forward and Koufos/Mclemore/Randolph are mostly just expiring contracts. Since we aren't really talking trade value they all ended up closer to the bottom. Kosta, until a couple games back, was getting consistent minutes and provides something on the court so his value was a little higher than the rest of his expiring compadres. Shump is expiring as well but given his starting status, age, and leadership qualities, comes in higher because I think the Kings can and should consider bringing him back after this season.

I wasn't sure about Harry. Clearly his is making huge strides and proving himself to be an essential part of the future, but I think he's right in the middle of that development. I feel like his value right now is just behind Fox and Bagley but his production gives me a pause on putting him up there quite yet so I cheated and put him in two spots.

Ask me in a week and it will probably all be different o_O

Buddy is the best shooter on the team but he’s not the best player. He maximizes his talent and gives it his all, but he’s clearly not a number one option. You can’t throw it to him at the end of the game because he’s average at best one on one and his handles are loose. A good defender will hound him into a turnover.

Fox is our elite franchise player, I simply don’t understand how you don’t see this. There’s nothing he can’t do. He can score, pass, defend, and rebound all while leading and directing the team. Hield himself has repeatedly said we go as Fox goes in interviews.

Bagley and Giles are up in tier 1 because of their potential. Bagley is up there because he’s got the talent to be a “throw it to him and watch him go to work” type of player and Giles has the talent to direct an entire offense while also being a great all around player. Will they get there who knows, but they are far younger than Buddy and have time on their side. Buddy is 26 and we can see what he’s going to be in the future. A deadly shooter from all over and a go hard type of player in all aspects of the game. Don’t mistake that for talent. Fox, Bagley, and Giles all have more natural talent than Buddy. Buddy is one of the hardest working guys in the league and deserves all the praise in the world, but he’s not a tier 1 type of guy. Never will be.

This year, so far, I'd rank them:
1. Hield 2. Bogdanovic 3. Fox 4. Bagley 5. Stein 6. Bjelica 7. Shumpert 8.Giles 9. Jackson 10. Ferrell 11. Mason 12. Koufos 13. McClemore 14. Labisierre

Next year Projections (assuming same personnel)
1. Fox 2. Hield 3. Bagley 4. Bogdanovic 5. Stein 6. Giles 7. Bjelica 8. Jackson 9. Shumpert 10. Mason 11. Ferrell 12 Koufos

The Kings need to get all their big-men more involved in shooting - except Koufos who isn't in the cards . Aside from a trade or FA, its possible Justin Jackson could start next season if he continues steady improvement.
