They will be doing a lot of trading to the Chiefs and Broncos, that's just how it's going to be. I think it will take the Chiefs a few seasons to get anywhere, they will mostly load up on role player/character guys to build what they did in NE from the ground up. I'm surprised they went after Cassel. For the #3 overall??? I'm sure BB will parlay that into 2 picks since top 3 guys are pricey.
 
I am not liking this offseason so far. Taylor signs with the Patriots (great signing), and Dawkins is officially a Denver Bronco now, along with Jabar Gaffney who I think is under-rated. With Dawkins and Bailey (and I think they still have Lynch too) that is one great secondary that Rivers will have to face twice a season. I don't know much about the running backs they signed but if either of those turns out to be good then the Chargers are in trouble. Hopefully LT re-structures his contract and the Chargers rebound with a big signing of their own, preferably on defense.

EDIT: Oh, and the Chiefs traded their 2nd rounder for both Cassel and Vrabel....not their 1st rounder.

That seems like a sweetheart deal for Cassel since he was expected to get 2 2nds if he didn't get a first. But its a high second.

Lynch retired last year, unless he un-retired and I missed it.

On the Pats boards there is talk that there is also a 2010 conditional in this deal. That's fair, could turn into a first day pick next year.
 
I'm not buying that Denver ever actually considered trading Cutler. Tampa and Detroit were pushing for this move which would have been insane (on Denver's part). Josh McDaniels will sit down with Cutler and set him straight.

Yeah I think the whole thing is blown out of proportion myself. I respect Cutler for playing thru diabetes n all but I find him very immature, especially after that feud with Rivers this past season (not to say Rivers wasn't immature about it either)
 
Yeah, Jay Cutler needs to sit down somewhere and chill the heck out. I honestly don't think the Broncos ever had any intention of trading him, but even if they considered it for a few minutes, so what? He's still a Bronco for a reason, and that reason is likely because the front office turned down any offers made for him.

If you're gonna get your panties in a bunch because your name comes up in trade rumors, then I'm gonna lose respect for you.
 
I thought both Cutler and Rivers were out of line during their little tiff (did they have another one?), but Rivers gained my respect for his gutsy play against the Pats in the AFCCG.

Yeah I read that somewhere, but I'm not sure how much truth there is to it. "Shopping" may be the wrong term to use, they may just be seeing what his value is around the league. If they do trade him I'd have to think they'd be getting a RB in return because they wouldn't rely on LT to last a whole season at this point. Or maybe they have their eye on somebody in the draft.

Pats probably already on the phone working out a Seau type deal. Though they're also said to be going after Peppers and that was part of why the Cassel trade (and Vrabel salary dump) were necessary - Vrabel had a roster bonus due today.
 
why's everyone getting on cutler for being mad? We all know mcdaniels pushed hard for his boy cassell and cutler knows that. I'd be pissed to if I was him. Mcdaniels already had gotten gaffney so he wanted his buddy cassell to come along as well. But the patriots had a nother buddy they'd prefer to help out. Pioli
 
I seriously doubt McDaniels pushed for his "boy". The Bucs and Lions were the ones pushing for the deal hoping McDaniels felt that way, he didn't so the deal didn't happen. He walked into that Denver job knowing he had a franchise QB. There were weeks to lay the groundwork for this deal happen, its not like KC flew in and swept him up before anyone could make a move. What's going on is that the Bucs and Lions are reacting to Cassel going for so "little" and going public to save face because they are two teams that don't have a QB solution and could have wrapped one up but didn't.

It's called PR. The Bucs and Lions leaked this information so that they could tell their fans "we tried to get Cassel, we tried to get Cutler, but we're just not going to have a franchise quarterback. Sorry."

There's no evidence that the Broncos seriously considered trading Cutler, and that's what he needs to realize. Had Josh McDaniels been serious about getting Cassel, then he probably could have made something happen that worked better for the Patriots and the Lions (or Bucs), had he wanted to put it together. Ever since the Pats franchised Cassel, everyone knew that he was on the block. Like pdx said, teams have been working on this for weeks, and these "trade talks" between the Bucs/Lions and the Broncos probably weren't 11th hour talks. These calls have probably been happening ever since McDaniels went to Denver.

Now, either Cutler's agent or the Bucs and Lions (one or the other) have let this information go public, and Cutler wants to be disgruntled. He needs to get over himself. He's had ONE GOOD YEAR, never been to the playoffs, melted down last season on the way throwing 18 interceptions... It's not in his best interests to be having a public spat with his coaches, refusing to come for a meeting, and just generally acting like a conceited and self-centered jerk who thinks the world revolves around him. He has the best job in the world, he's playing for a coach who just turned a career benchwarming scrub into a $14 million quarterback, and is in one of the weakest divisions in football.

He has an opportunity to become one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. He should relish that opportunity, put the past behind him, and get on board with the plans. Instead, he and his agent feel that he should act like a petulant, spoiled little brat. It's annoying. And understand, I like Jay Cutler's game. I'm not a Chargers or Raiders fan or anything like that. But he's being stupid and making a bigger deal out of this than he should.
 
No, I didn't prove your point - Cutler is crying because he believes that his new coach didn't want him. This is a guy who had his pick of any HC vacancy in the NFL and he chose one where he knew he was set at the QB spot with Cutler. I think its pretty safe to assume that McDaniels wants Cutler, if he didn't Cutler would already be gone or he'd be coaching in KC or Detroit.

The Washington Redskins released defensive end Jason Taylor on Monday after the six-time All-Pro failed to accept a workout commitment.

According to a source, Taylor was asked by the Redskins to take part in 75 percent of their offseason workouts. That would have required him to be at the Redskins' facility during eight of the 13 weeks of the offseason program, three days a week.

Family took precedence over the money.

With three children, Taylor, who has a home in the Miami area, opted not to agree to the workout provisions. The team was willing to keep his restructured salary at $8.5 million, but his desire to be with his family in the offseason was more important in his life.

I'm really starting to get bothered by this "veteran free agent signs inexpensive deal with Patriots for a chance at a ring" junk. Of course, I'm assuming that that's what the story is...

The other thing with Seau though is they say "Hey, why don't you take the summer off and show up the last week of August" or "Hey, why don't you give those retirement papers to us and we'll file them for you..."

Taylor doesn't want to bother with minicamp and all that other stuff and you know, for a guy his age that is one of the best in the business but may get banged up and suffer on a long run that makes sense. And a guy like Snyder thinks he isn't getting his money's worth unless the guy is at camp every day and checking in 3x a week during the offseason because he owns your ***.
 
I don't blame him, and to be honest with you, I'd probably do the same thing if I were him. And I don't blame the Patriots, either. They have earned the reputation of being a team that's going to have a chance at a ring every year (assuming Brady is playing), and aging vets who want one last crack at it after banking many millions over the course of their careers want to play a relevant for a relevant team. Jason Taylor would fit perfectly in the Patriots scheme, and wouldn't even have to play every down.

It is, however, annoying, as a fan of another team, to see the Patriots get sweetheart deals from good players every year, because they want to play for a contender. When it happens here and there, no big deal, but every year? Now we're talking about Lakers Reloaded. Jason Taylor is Gary Payton (skipping out on the Dolphins because he thought they would suck, but they wound up being better than the 'Skins last season; now leaving the 'Skins for greener pastures).

No big deal, and it hasn't really meant any success for the Pats when you look back. Only Corey Dillon really helped them win a Super Bowl; they fell short after making the most drastic moves, even though they did have a record setting offense.
 
what does signing a bunch of players have to do with "committed to winning"? That doesn't mean anything the 49ers have broken the bank the last few years and it hasn't gotten them anywhere. Besides the broncos released multiple players hence the reason to sign all these players.
