Yes true but there seems to be a tier drop when it comes to the prospects. There are always hidden gems but the top 3 are known to be considered #1 draft picks if they were in other classesIf this draft is so deep, as you suggest, then potentially slipping a few spots out of the top 3 shouldn’t be the biggest of deals — right?
Elite level players have been acquired all over the first round. Hell, the KINGS landed Boogie Cousins at 4 and Tyrese Haliburton at 12.
It’s about identifying then drafting the right player. The KINGS should be able to do that anywhere within the top 10 of a deep draft.
The top tier every year is 1 less than wherever the Kings are picking.Yes true but there seems to be a tier drop when it comes to the prospects. There are always hidden gems but the top 3 are known to be considered #1 draft picks if they were in other classes
Although I understand where you are coming from such as Giannis being the 15th pick in 2013 and etc, historical hit rates show that top 3 nba draft picks generally give you the best chances of landing a superstarWell in 2018, Ayton went first and SGA went #11. I think we know which one of those two is a future HOFer.
I feel like there was another inferior player that got drafted over a future HOFer in the 2018 draft, but I can't remember the details at the moment...
Anyways, it's a crap shoot! I'm happy if we get top 5/6 because we may still have a shot at the best player in the draft at that position!

Agreed. Let’s hope Perry and the Kings work their magicDon't get me wrong, I'm firmly in the "trade vets, get lins" camp for just this reason. I just don't think it's really worth agonizing over ever win.
Now if we hang on to all the vets and end up going .400 in February, I'll start stressing with y'all!
People talking themselves into a worse draft pick is ok mindset. I prefer them to stay locked into the bottom 3 spots

"that play-in magic"???I hope we trade promising youngsters and maybe even picks for guys like Bobby Portis. Really secure that play-in magic.

Those are one off examples. Yes good players get drafted in later rounds but statistically speaking your odds of drafting an all star are much higher in the first 5 picks.Well in 2018, Ayton went first and SGA went #11. I think we know which one of those two is a future HOFer.

Depends on who is making the pick, how stable the organization is, etc., etc. Those are one off examples. Yes good players get drafted in later rounds but statistically speaking your odds of drafting an all star are much higher in the first 5 picks.

Yes, you have more players to choose from the sooner you pick, and theoretically, earlier picks tend to outperform later ones. But there's a LOT of noise in there that isn't accounted for. I see people saying (not necessarily here) that if we get a couple of good picks in this draft we are set due to how deep it is.
Oh, my sweet, innocent child. How we all wish that were so.
"High level talent" was the same thing they said about Oden. The draft rights for Doncic were traded for Trae Young. It's easy to go on and on and on about draft pick mistakes, players that fell that shouldn't have, and trades that should not have been made.So true, but the value of that pick regardless will open doors to change far beyond a lower pick especially via potential trade. This is a deep draft in high level talent in the top 4/5 or so. Outside of that this isn't that deep in star power I don't think. There's a lot of players that are kind of known. Getting multiple picks in this draft shouldn't be too difficult just like Perry getting into the last one, it's doable without major value going out. Those late lotto/1st round players are solid pieces, not ones that will change a franchise most likely. Yeah, there's always that one player a team gets but still. When there is a lot of variance in mocks it's a pretty good sign it's kind of mucky beyond a certain pick.

The Kings have traded to get multiple picks in the first round before and blew just about all of them.
I get it. Picks have value. In fact, some teams will give up good young players for them. Frankly, that is often my preferred approach as the players have already somewhat established themselves in the league.
Draft picks themselves are such a freaking crapshoot unless you get a Lebron or a Wemby or a couple shots at all time greats like the Spurs did back in the day. Other than that, you never KNOW. You can guess, but that's all it is. And that's if you get lucky enough to get a top 1-2 pick. Now, the projected pick location for the worst team in the league is 4. You can't tank for the best player any more. You just can't.
I worry that Vivek is back to wanting to try for the play-in.I won’t muck the game thread with my Lin mindset, but we’ve proven we can win a game or two.
This is much more important. Westbrook, go full Westbrick. LaVine, have a stinker. Domas, I’m glad you’re back in time to be traded, but have an awful rusty get-well game.
Lose by 20. This one has potential ping-pong balls on the line.
No chance. You can always count on the Kings to go on a winning streak at the most inopportune time. I hoped this year would be different but I should know better to get my hopes up with any Vivek org.I won’t muck the game thread with my Lin mindset, but we’ve proven we can win a game or two.

meanwhile the Pels, who don’t have control of their own pick and have reportedly made half their roster off limits in trade talks just keep losing for the fun of it.Pacers and BKN won a game. Are they incompetent organizations as well?
Looks at their FO. Understandable.meanwhile the Pels, who don’t have control of their own pick and have reportedly made half their roster off limits in trade talks just keep losing for the fun of it.

Hell lets just drop out of the first round because Jokic was picked in the second.
