R.I.P. John Hughes

John Hughes has died at the age of 59.

I truly enjoyed his wonderful, memorable films with the Brat Pack and more. IMO, he was one of the most authentic film makers, especially at his peak during the 80s.

Rest in peace.

I didn't grow up during the 80's, and I only saw some of his movies. But I'm well aware of his success during that decade.

One thing that I cannot figure out is how he lost his touch by the time the 90's rolled around. With the exception of the first "Home Alone" movie, he seems to have stayed away from the director's chair, even though he kept producing movies during the 90's. Maybe he ran out of ideas?

Anyway, R.I.P.

I think people's taste in cinema (d)evolved and Hughes didn't want to go in that direction. Its pretty common when you look at the industry. Hughes's films sure have held up better than those of his clones.

RIP

They were discussing him on NPR yesterday. Apparently he wanted to go more with writing than directing at a certain point. Also a very reclusive person, I guess.

They also said when his high school wanted to honor him, he refused them, because his high school experience was not good. Hence his protaganists generally being outcasts, people seen as losers or people who were just different from the norm.

Sadly I think his writing credits for most of the last two decades are more depressing than the disappearance of the "John Hughes film" itself. But at his peak was his stuff ever great and that is what I will remember fondly.
