Question about Peja

It is just strange to comment about Peja, and your comments are being moved to the NBA forum...no more Kings forum.>>!...It is strange to see him in that blue, yellow, white uniform...

Subject: Defending Peja's Defense

Sacramento fans are passionate but sadly not always the best-informed. They like to throw out labels like “soft” and “bad defense” and “disappearing in the fourth quarter” without understanding the mechanics of the game. Sometimes its easier to blame the obvious than to deconstruct the game. I have to think that in Hoosier country, these misconceptions will be corrected by the knowledgeable basketball community. Peja is completely underrated as a defender. He is not a bad defender, but is inconsistent. Peja was the Kings' best defender, actually -- and before he got injured in Seattle, he was their best player. I think under Coach Carisle and Larry Bird, he will take his game to a new level after he gets completely healthy. It feels awful to know he’s gone, but better to know he’s going to Indiana where the heartbreak of Reggie Miller still is felt. No one will ever take the place of Reggie, but there are similarities between the two players. Like Reggie, Peja is among the best shooters I have ever seen -- maybe the best (sorry, Reggie). Like Reggie, Peja is totally unaware and unconcerned with his own star-power. He represents everything that is good about sports and nothing that isn’t. He’s a professional and an outstanding person. Maybe I’m old-fashioned, but these are important qualities. They can turn the tide. They can make for great chemistry. And they can win your heart -- trust me. I hope Indy gives Peja the reception the 3-time All-Star deserves. I wouldn’t trade seven championships for seven seasons without Peja -- and that’s the truth. While everyone else seems to be concerned about his stats, Peja is more concerned about the team. I know he will do everything he can to help the Pacers win.

This is laughable. Us Sacramentans are not informed, yet she's from Sacramento. So, she must be the chosen one right?? She's right that Peja was playing at a high level before the injury in seattle. The hand and the hamstring have healed, but I'll tell you what hasn't healed, and what will not heal. His back. That's why his shot has slumped. It's not his fault. He's doing the best he can with it, but it's not ever going to get better. The disk will eventually herniate and need surgery, because he'll be in pain constantly and be unable to play basketball. That time to could be a lone time from now, or a lot sooner than you think. But, until then he will be hampered. The day of him fully healing won't come. There will be days that he feels good, but they won't be consistant or regular, and neither will his shot.

Just because Indiana is *Hoosier* country doesn't make them most informed people in the world about Basketball. I think us here in Sacramento are pretty well informed ourselves, since we don't have much else to focus on in our immediate local area.

Now to the last part. Comparing Peja to Reggie Miller?? Give me a break. Reggie was awesome, Reggie was clutch, you could ALWAYS count on Reggie. When was the last time you said that. When's the last time Peja hit a last second grab spin and shoot 3 from the corner in the playoffs. Reggie did it 2 years in a row in almost exactly the same fashion. That's poise, that's talent, that's heart, that's desire. The heart of a champion. Something that cannot be taught. You either have it, or you don't. Peja should go see the Wizard of Oz.

Looking as goofy as ever lol. It honestly wasn't hard for me to picture him in their colors. I don't know why.

Have you guys been poking around the pacers website. You remember how some of you were saying the Pacers will be good for Peja, because their offense set's up slower through the lowpost, and that will help Peja. A slower tempo. well check this out. Oh, the irony.

I heard that the Pacers brass, Donnie Walsh and Larry Bird, said this team will run a more up-tempo style of offense with Peja on the squad.

http://www.nba.com/pacers/news/peja_060127.htmlAlso an interesting article here. A lot of people think that the Pacers wanted Peja for an expiring contract as well as just liking his play. Bird comments here that he's been after Peja for 2 years and doesn't want him there for 2 weeks. Their plan has much more than the next 40 games in mind. Sounds like they intend on re-signing him.

Huh?? I was just pointing out some interesting articles on the Pacers website. How was I bashing Peja. In the posts about the articles and the picture.

The only time I said anything bad about him was in response to jenn from sacramento. And, sorry when I see something like that I'm going to comment on it. After all this is a message board. If it bothers you, or you don't like it, the only suggestion I can offer is to ignore me and do not read it. Don't know what else to tell you.

A simple misunderstanding. I know how much you love(d) Peja and I thought that one of those posts was out of character :)

I want to say that's foolish thinking, but it's more along the line of infatuation. Let's see: Seven Championships, to be up there with the best ever, to have numerous and glorious years, or to have one good player on the team? Those muscular drives must've been much more influential than I thought they were.

Talk about living up to the reputation of being ill informed, Jenn in Sacramento.

The love affair, literally, does go on for some. That's not a fan, its a groupie.

^^Or a stalker... ;)

Lord, am I the only one who really thinks that's a doofy picture? That couldn't have been the best of the lot... could it?

Doubtful.

But, then again, I've never been in the Peja-is-dreamy camp.

Reminds me of the strangest, funniest, weirdist and possibly scarist speech a studnet ever gave in one of my classes. The second speech in my basic course is an Informative or "how to" speech. This guy gave one entitled "How to Stalk Your Girlfriend... beceause she only THINKS shes your ex"... Guy had done lots of research on what stalkers do and brougnt in night gogles, a sample bag of trash to riummage through and a multi frequency scanner capible of listening in on both cordless phones and cell phones... like I said very memerable, and funny but he did seem almost TOO informed.
