Some were down on Petrie lately more than others. At this point yesterday it didn't look like anything would happen. Now we have Landry, who is a perfect fit for this team. I actually hope he starts and JT comes off the bench. We cleared a ton of room in cap space. We have options going into the offseason, and it will be exciting.

Well, Petrie surprised all of us. A true silent assassin he is. He pulled the wool over our eyes and made atrade no one saw coming. I just hope that given some of the things I have read on this forum this season about Petrie, he will now get the credit he deserves. It is a good day to be a Kings fan.

Yeah this is an A deal.

We avoided taking on Jeffries, still had T-Mac move on, we get Landry, and an expiring while keeping K-9's expiring.

So at the end of the season

Hughes
K-9
May
Armstrong

All come off the books. Brockman will to, ut we'll resign him, hopefully for like 3 mill a year.

of course it is at least compared to yesterday where we lost to depleted Warriors by 32 or so.


Every day is a good day to be a Kings fan. The day it stops - the day you need to be fan of some other team or something else
 
Yes, he did well. He got us a player the other team's fans were actually upset to see go, didn't take on a bad contract and set us up nicely to be a player in free agency or a draft day trade.

A good day to be a Kings fan...I really dont see how getting rid of Martin for money and a tweener is a good day.
 
I can't see how anyone is down on this trade. We get a guy who averages a couple baskets fewer than Kevin but is way more talented all around. We also have tens of millions to spend on a marquee player. The future is bright - except for that arena thing.

The reaction on this board has been fairly positive, but I'm not sure how "Kings Fans" view this trade as a whole. I'm not even completely sure were I stand on this move. A part of me feels like we could have gotten more. I will say this though, Petrie took a risk, and I certainly can't say this was a bad trade, I just don't know how good it is yet.

Well inside scoring is better than outside scoring. And given that JT and Hawes can't seem to put a string of decent games together, a guy like Landry is sorely needed more than a scoring SG.

Geez, people. This deal keeps us going in the right direction. It's a win-win all the way around. Even I, one of the biggest Martin partisans on this forum, can see it so I'm truly puzzled by the attitude some are showing.

Petrie made a big trade; it's what you wanted and it's what you got.

I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next. It is a good day to be a Kings fan.

It will take time to grade this move.

If the Kings lure a big FA in the summer, then it's a great trade.

If the Kings lure a middling FA in the summer, then it's an okay trade.

If the Kings get the Petrie MLE special, then it's a potentially bad trade.

If the Kings can't lure anyone or just the MLE special and Hill ends up developing, then the Kings got jobbed.

Houston won the deal. The Kings must rely on Free Agency when it is their weakest position. NY relies on FA as well, but that was always their point.

Puuuulllllleeeeeeesssee, I support what is good and do express displeasure towards what is bad. I cannot help it if this organization does more bad things then good.
If you look at what Houston got out of this deal, we got trashed.

Yet there are some Morey jockers that seem to insist they got the better of us on the Artest deal as well as this one.

I happen to think Houston took a lot of risks on these moves and they can either pay off handsomely or backfire in a major way. They definitely win on paper but that has a funny way of working out in reality.

I think we move in the right direction, it may not be the move that makes us contenders overnight but it sets us up very nicely for the off season.

Most houston fans are coming around after seeing the new york portion of the deal. Landry just garners that kind of emotion because you wont find a guy who gives as much effort in the league. (and he has the requisite talent to go with it)

That said I think all teams got something out of this. I think Houston on paper made out with the most but they also were the team that was taking on all the salary in this deal. Both the Kings and Knicks get massive financial relief that doesnt show on the basketball court this year. Everyone will have to wait a year or two to see who exactly won in this deal.

Getting rid of a soft player who sucks in the clutch for someone TOUGH down low who actually finishes...is a bad move now? Get real. Props to Daryl Morey for getting another injury prone player, and jordan hill who is a poor mans Mikki Moore? You are hilarious.

The Artest deal got us to the 2nd round for the first time in over a decade. I think most people in houston are happy to live with that.

If the Kings don't get anybody in FA from the extra $ earned from this deal it's still a good deal. It's trading a softie for a tough guy. The FA $ is just gravy on a very nice meal.

The tough-guy theme coming from the front office is nice to see. Further evidence that last year was a painful watershed learning experience for the FO and they will never go back to getting marshmallow softies. I expect this theme to continue in free agency and in the draft.

I was reading a little over there and most Houston fans don't know who Martin is, but they are really upset at losing.... not T-Mac... but Landry!

That makes me think Landry might have an upside.

I am in the national media majority on my assessment, Im ok with that.
 
Look, I'm going to be really honest here. Kevin Martin is not a good player right now. In fact, he's been nothing short of awful in the games he's played. I don't know if that's because he's not comfortable with this team or he just simply isn't that good. Let me spell it out for everybody:

-- He plays zero defense. His lack of defense hurts the rest of the team because other players have to constantly leave their man to help on his man.

-- He is one dimensional. He's a SG and that's it. He's way too thin and weak to play SF and he would get eaten alive by the SF's that he would guard.

-- He's injury prone. He's missed 32 games already this year, 31 last year, and 21 the year before. It might be that he's too thin and can't take the punishment but he always finds a way to get injured each year.

-- He's mentally weak. Just ask Grant Napear!

-- He's not a leader. This is obvious.

We pick up a player who is tough as nails in Landry. Some fans over in the Rocket's forums were calling him their favorite Rocket ever outside of Hakeem. The guy is a career 57% FG shooter and also shoots a great % from the line. He plays defense and he has a post game on offense. He's got Brockman like heart but has a well defined overall game.

Why do you think it is the Rockets have a winning record in the super tough Western Conference despite not having any "big name" players? Partly it's because Rick Adelman is an excellent coach who always finds a way to get the most out of his players but it's also because they have guys like Landry who are tremendously underrated.

Simply put, Landry will help you win games. Kevin Martin will not.

Exactly....to me, it seems all parties got something positive out of the trade. Since the inception of the salary cap, trades in the NBA can no longer be evaluated entirely on states alone.

From the Kings perspective, I see there being 3 positives:

1. Addition by subtraction - yes, clearly Martin is a talented player, but as has been discussed at length on this board...he and Evans just didn't seem to work well together. By and large, the team played better this year with martin out (granted the schedule was easier) and proved they could easily pick up any scoring slack missed by Martin.

2. Addition of a solid player in Landry that can contribute right away. Not clear if he gets the starting nod over JT, but either way he clearly improves the team's front line....and does so on the cheap. He continues the trend of improving overall toughness and grit of the team that we saw on draft night. Is he the answer at PF for the next 10 years, no way. However, he is a solid contributor....both in the short run on a young growing team and long run on a potential championship contender (if he's resigned).

3. Increases the potential for a significant free agent signing. We now have tons of cap room. Not sure where we stand in terms of the amount other teams potentially have, but I'm guessing we must be near the top with over 20M coming off the books this year. This is the crapshoot portion of the trade. Who knows what could happen here and if a significant FA would want to come to SAC, but its a roll of the dice by Petrie that could SIGNIFICANTLY change the course of this franchise if he's able to turn that cap room into a major piece of the team going forward.

Fine with me. I don't base my opinions on what the national media has to say. I'd rather look at my team and form my own opinions. To each his/her own...

It's not but its an acceptable swap for talent when you consider what you're paying Landry.

Also, I think he should play the same role he had in houston. Come off the bench and provide an offensive spark.
