PROGRAMMING ALERT - Mayor Johnson on KHTK Friday @ 4:40PM

I'm stickying this because I presume he'll have something to say about the arena projects, or lack thereof, and I figure that's of principle importance for the moment. Someone please be sure to give some updates when the interview happens.

Today's my bday so I'm hoping for good news.
Well, I hope you're having a Happy B-Day!! But I dont think you'll hear anything that we don't already know in the way of a new arena. I think it's just KJ's way of getting on the air telling people he's trying in this whole thing, and an update of things as of last week and the downfall of the Kamilos plan.

Nothing new from the mayor that we don't already know. He wants to stay positive in the face of ongoing crisis to keep the Kings in Sac. Closed by saying it will get done somehow, someway - what else could he say with so much at stake for him personally and as a leader of the effort to get a new sports and entertainment arena.

Well, at least they're making it interesting.:D I'm still about 70% sure there's no hope...who knows what the he'll Taylor/Kamilos have in store for the next 30 days. Who knows what KJ's next step is once they're done. One thing I do know is they only have about 6 months to make a miracle happen!

To clarify, the exclusive right to negotiate agreement with the Kamilos group ends on October 31st. KJ said they may let it expire, because of the original bidders proposals, the reviewers thought 2-3 others might be possible, The city can't go back and look at any of those proposals as long as the city is tied into the exclusive negotiation contract.

All it means is they may let it expire, if the "convergence" team doesn't come through with a really solid, revised proposal. I think that's fair. The convergence plan, as proposed, failed. If they can't come up with a solid revision, then the city should go back and revisit those 0other possibilities. Maybe he's subtly giving them a heads up to be working on possible and feasible financing sources/commitments, because that was the weakness of all the other proposals at that time.

I hope all the parties that have viable plans are working on them now and getting ready to present them at the end of the month. Even the supposedly cheaper option to build next to Arco better be explored. No need to make building downtown a deal breaker at this point.

Didn't I read there was some big Australian money involved a few months back to the tune of $300M?? And with the rail yards now in foreclosure doesn't that help with a lower price?? Or not?

Yeah, that was a bank called Macquarie Capitol...that was contingent on the whole plan going forward I think. Not sure if that bank is game for a lesser land swap and less moving pieces. Who knows, I havent heard anything about them since they announced the plan, so maybe they backed out and that's why Kamilos got VisionQuest involved.
