PROGRAM ALERT: Geoff Petrie on Sportsline 1140 within the Hour

From what people are saying, everything seems to indicate that the Maloofs are now calling the shots. Petrie's trying to make trades, but going with a rebuild would entail them admitting that this is a lost cause and also thereby admitting they screwed up the Adelman firing and that this team is worse off than before. We'll see how long it takes them to see reality.

we need to start some sort of petition calling for a rebuilding process and basically showing the maloofs that we want this done and forgive all past mistakes. think that would work?

I'm not going to disagree with what you are saying, but that is a little bit of a slippery slope.

His agent called in right after Petrie and said that Flip Murray was offered straight up for Hart earlier in the year and that the Kings wouldn't take it because they didn't want to take on Murray's 2nd year on his contract.

It is all about giving him a chance to prove himself so he can get a better contract when it expires at the end of this year. Everything the agent is saying points to that.

The Kings want his expiring contract.

Score one for the front office!!

One thing this has gotten me thinking about, though...

Adelman, for all his faults, was excellent at getting players to perform at their maximum potential much of the time -- perhaps even above it. Guys rarely looked better anywhere else than they did in Sac.

That is definitely not happening under Muss. "Overperforming" is not even in our vocabulary now.

I wonder... blowing the team up does not guarantee that the new roster would better fit Muss' style. Blowing up the roster is also not going to make Muss any better of a coach.

While not seriously questioning the idea that we need to do some rebuilding, I am wondering whether there is any realistic possibility of our assembling a roster which Muss can win with. It would be a pity to replace a bunch of guys, then have them all underperforming and looking just as discouraged as our current bunch.

Can a rebuild work if the coach isn't going to be trusted and respected by the players, whoever they may be? Or would we only manage to drive another dozen guys off a cliff?

The question is, do the Maloofs want to rebuild? with the Arena issue and all do they really want to go through a bad period of time by losing fans? the reason the Maloofs want a new arena or city is getting more fans not by losing em.

Were the Maloofs our owner during the 90's when we were in a hell-hole? nope Petrie wants to rebuild but he knows the Maloofs might not do that. Maloofs come from a place that is all about winning and thats there home called Las Vegas.

Vegas actually would be about gambling my friend. And if you want to get down to the nit and grit of it, about scammers stealing money from the pockets of losers. New York is about winning. And at all costs. There is a difference.

As for the Maloofs not being around during the 90s -- part of the problem. They lack all perspective and understanding that things don't magically all work out just because it says MS&E on the cover.

...

Im truely hoping that is just an agent blithering anything to defend his client...Because if that is true, I am totally pissed at the team.

Wait, why? The Kings don't have any use for Flip Murray, and it's a sign that they're actually conscious about building some cap room this season.

I think it's more a question of whether or not the Maloofs have a really solid grip on the realities involved. Whatever they do, they are going to lose some fair weather fans. The only questions are how long it will be dragged out, and what sort of team they will have when it's over. The team is being rebuilt, and the process will either complete itself in a planned and deliberate way, or it will happen as a long series of accidents.

One of my favorite GP used proverbs " Victory has a thousand fathers but defeat is an orhpan"

And thats exactly the situation we have here with the Kings, everyone is point fingers at everyone else, from the players all the way up to the front office.

Bibby: Hey, its not me its those guys over there who need to stop worrying about their shots

Miller: Hey its not me its the about the wrong numbers and plays being called

Musselman: Hey its not me, I only do what the bosses tell me to

Geoff: Hey its not me, my hands are tied.

And then you have Ron Artest who is just in a world all his own. Its really no wonder the state the Kings are in today =/

Interesting -- just in that HOW that was said could indeed be the front office calling for guys to be played. Such as Douby? of course the real issue, if there wer one, might be Muss's lack of stature/tenure compared to Geoff, as well as his being tethered to the Maloofs and apparently having to call them like mommy after every game to check in. Puts him in a weak position such that if one of his superiors seems to suggest soemthing, maybe he feels like he doesn't have the choice to say no.

He doesn't have the choice to say no. His Ice couldn't be any thinner.:D

As we wander around the waiting room waiting for them to take the squad off life support I can't help but reflect...

Who hurt the notion of great Kings basketball worse - Robert Horry or Bonzi Wells?

This is rhetorical as I know you are already aware that you never fire "the team", you always fire the coach. This team is underperforming with Muss, therefore, Muss should go.

Easy.....Horry!

Bonzi and later on down the Ron gave it a temporary reprieve but still that shot set off the moment it all went downhill

Actually disagree there -- we were going to win the title the NEXT year. That shot hurt for a while, but hell we were one FT from winnign the series anyway. And then the next year we were the behemoths, most talented team in the NBA. So deep. Ravaged by injuries and yet just rolled anyway.

Horry robbed us of a title. But the period of Kings greatness ended the night Webb crumbled down on that endline. Fractured everything.

Agreed, just the choices were between Robert Horry.........................and Bonzi Wells ;)

I'd have to agree with that....Webber's injury and subsequent trading was the beginning of the end.

Now the question is: Will the Maloofs stop trying to play GM and let Petrie rebuild this mess?

I suppose I used Bonzi, because I think there was a chance the Kings could have chased #4 seed kind of respect. We had an advantage, an edge and a style. It was potentially still very entertaining based on the end of last year. When he left we were no longer a playoff team.

IMO we were one player away from contending.

A whole lot of talk about the Maloofs "playing GM", does anybody have any evidence other than circumstantial of course that this is what's going on right now?

If the Maloofs are saying they should play the young guys that tells me thay may be the ones wanting to rebuild if there even is anyone in the organization wanting to rebuild.

Petrie always struck me as a guy very against rebuilding.
