PROGRAM ALERT: Geoff Petrie on Sportsline 1140 within the Hour

Isn't it because long ago a long time ago Webb didn't want to come on to Grant's show any longer so Grant hated him for it?

I used to like Grant but haven't really heard him in like 2 years...now he seems like he's just annoyed at the fact that he's there.

My take on it was that Grant was always ready to back the Maloof party line.

On trade talk:

"I think we all agree...We feel we can play and get better...As far as trades go, if we can find an opportunity that is either good for us short or long term we'll do it...But you HAVE to try to win with the team you have, and you need to try to continue to build..."

"It's really difficult to predict if and when something could happen."

"There's no guarantee that a deal could have the impact that the Ron/Peja trade had...That was obviously one of the all-time turnarounds, at least when I've been around."

*Not exact transcript, half paraphrased, half quoted.

"(On Rebuilding)It may become unavoidable at some point, and it's a decision the organization has to make as a whole. In the meantime, you have to go to war with the guys you have"

It's time, Petrie...

On rebuilding.

"If your not getting the right reflection back from what you want, then you have to look at it long-term...You get to a point when you have to fix it, and it may become unavoidable...The whole organization needs to make the decicion, but until then you have to go to war with what you have."

On the Hart situation.

"It's his team to coach, we don't tell our coaches how to coach somebody, we don't tell them who to play...We say so and so looked good in practice, maybe he can contribute, and thats the extent of it."

Petrie said something about being prepared to lose fans if it comes to a rebuild, as it's the nature of the game. Not the exact quote, but it's the gist of it.

Sounded to me like he felt exactly the same way we all feel. Sounded to me like he knew what needed to be done. But it also sounded to me like his hands were tied...

My own unofficial, unscientific, and purely speculative view is that Petrie is ready to blow up the clown. Not sure what the Princetonian equivalent of that would be......

Interesting -- just in that HOW that was said could indeed be the front office calling for guys to be played. Such as Douby? of course the real issue, if there wer one, might be Muss's lack of stature/tenure compared to Geoff, as well as his being tethered to the Maloofs and apparently having to call them like mommy after every game to check in. Puts him in a weak position such that if one of his superiors seems to suggest soemthing, maybe he feels like he doesn't have the choice to say no.

My guess is that Petrie's not wanting to trade Bibby/Brad/Ron for loose change and is waiting for a good deal.

waiting for a good deal is fine, but i'm afraid when the deadline comes around it has to get done because the starting fresh aspect is more important than getting the best "return" for them. so whether it's the best return or not, it still needs to get done.

I was thinking the same... Adelman's downfall was supposed to have been that he wasn't communicative enough... the Maloofs can be heard at games, loudly commenting on what they wish the coach would do... I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if Muss is regularly calling the Maloofs and asking about what they'd like to see him doing.

Muss' performance has been that of a coach with very little job security, and let's face it, he's not accountable to us fans. He can do an absolutely wretched job, but as long as the Maloofs aren't blaming him for anything, he's set. When the team's tanking, it's in his best interest to let the Maloofs make as many decisions as possible, as he can't lose his job for doing as he's told.

Translated: the Maloofs are calling the shots.
From these comments and the last quotes we heard from the Maloofs, this is the same thing I think. And basically it appears the Maloofs are the ones that can't stand the thought of getting worse to get better. I think its the Maloofs who are clinging to the idea of rebuilding while still being competitive.

Get over it Maloofs. Its time to read the handwriting on the wall. As GP said, most of us don't need to be weathermen to tell which way the wind is blowing.

From what people are saying, everything seems to indicate that the Maloofs are now calling the shots. Petrie's trying to make trades, but going with a rebuild would entail them admitting that this is a lost cause and also thereby admitting they screwed up the Adelman firing and that this team is worse off than before. We'll see how long it takes them to see reality.

Maybe they need to switch to sodas with those $6 burgers.;)

did geoff say anything at all about brad miller's personal reasons for not playing?

Were the Maloofs our owner during the 90's when we were in a hell-hole? nope Petrie wants to rebuild but he knows the Maloofs might not do that. Maloofs come from a place that is all about winning and thats there home called Las Vegas.
