Malone addressed the obvious at the end of the last game. The starting line up isnt working. My take.....

PG: Thomas over GV.

GV might still be working himself back. I hope. Because his defense is flat out awful and the reason we keep falling behind to start every game. Its worse than even Jimmers was his rookie year. On a team that as a whole cant defend guards, GV is the worst. Also im not buying into all the GV love about him being unselfish. He has no other option!!!! He can't get by anyone and outside a floater here or there has no offensive game. He slows down the offense to a half court craw when hes out there. Yes it might help if we had other guys that could actually shoot but its GVs defense is just unacceptable and setting the losing tone at the start of every game. Thomas will never be the passer GV might be but Thomas is by far our best guard defender and is almost personally responsible (outside cousins) for making any of the 5 losses close. Hes also by far our 2nd best player so far thus he needs to start. GV might be more dominant against teams second units anyway.

SG: Ben over MT
No brainer. MT is done. His suck is more shocking than salmons or whoever. Hes a terrible defender that has made up for it by scoring 17 or more pts in the past. But he apparently is unable to handle this new system or his own struggles and is totally checked out/ worthless now. Ben is an upgrade in every area.

SF: luc over salmons. It cant hurt right? Lol we got nowhere to go but up at this spot. We are getting nothing from salmons and outlaw is hardly noticeable also.

PF: JT over P-pat. Just need more defense, and at least JT can hit deep mid range jumpers. patterson might benefit from playing against teams second units just like GV.

BENCH:
SG: jimmer over mt.
PG: GV
SF: outlaw or salmons.
PF: hayes over patterson. Why the hell not? Hayes can grab 2 reb in his sleep!

For the rest of this home stand, Jimmer will be first off the bench at shooting gaurd and Outlaw at forward. IT is still our 6th man, so his role is unchanged. It's not his fault, his game never changes..just like he said.

I want to see Ray McCallum or N'd get a look

IT is not going to start.

My thoughts are:

PG - GV
SG - Ben
SF - Outlaw
PF - I don't see Malone starting JT, especially after last night's post-game presser, but PatPat hasn't done much either, so it just might be Hayes (although that would clog the paint and take away from DFC)
C - DFC

There is no easy fix. We still have the same pieces that don't fit well together.

Gv
M16
PatPat
JT
BigCuz

I dont see Malone giving up on Patterson yet but I think Thornton and Salmons are going to hit the bench for a bit thankfully.

Hahahah come on IT starting he is one of the selfish guys Vasquez ain't the problem he's been setting people they just happened to miss

Vasquez
Ben
Luc
PP
Cousins

The nice potential with Patterson and Moute, is that they could more easily switch on D in certain situations and matchups. Could be an interesting twist

Right now Cousins is on a hot streak and needs to get the ball and GV with all his limitations seems focused to quickly look for him. I'd like to keep this going until another guard will make this their first option. Cutting down on passes to DeMarcus will lower this point production and would anger him in the process. Was impressed with Luc’s defense last night and only question if he's ready to play a constant 25 to 30 min. That aside I would start him. In the past I posted to hold Ben back a bit and bring him along slowly. Now, I can't get enough of watching him out on the floor. He's exciting, he's energetic and has a beautiful long ball stroke. He's ready to start. Gonna learn on the job kid. I’m not quite ready to have JT start in front of PPat. Maybe wishful thinking but after Patterson sees a couple of starters dropping down the ladder maybe the message will force him to become an aggressive defender and become a consistent scorer or suffer the same consequences. The ball is in his corner.

GV/IT and RMcC
Ben/Jimmer
MAM/Outlaw
JT/PPat
Cuz/Hayes/D'daiye in garbage time

Malone limited IT to 17 minutes last night and JT to 11 minutes so my pick of JT is probably waaaay off base. I just think he is better than PPat and has experience with Cuz. It's a sad pick as neither is doing much.

I know it's terribly small, and rebounding would be problematic, but here is what I'd like to see.

Vasquez
Fredette
McLemore
Mbah a Moute
Cousins

IT first off the bench with MT, Outlaw, and JT. Salmons needs to go away.

I'm changing to Outlaw starting over Moute, for the time being, because we're not even sure where Moute actually stands physically. Outlaw has earned it with his solid play for all of preseason and first 6 games. We need to put the ball in the hole at some point, and his long jumper has been on all season. He also can rebound with his length

Vasquez, Ben, Outlaw, JT, Cousins. JT has to start for rebounding and length on defense.

I also want to see Vasquez in at the same time with Ben and Jimmer

My lineup seems common to others:
GV/IT
Ben/Jimmer
Mbah A Moute/Outlaw
JT/PPat
Cousins/JT/Hayes

Jimmer has shown that he at least deserves more minutes. I also think JT pairs better with Cousins. If ppat becomes more consistent, then maybe i switch that up.

GV
Ben
Mbah A Moute
DMC
Ndiaye

I give up on Patterson and JT right now. They are afraid of playing physical and boxing out. Ndiaye is very limited, but he will give 200% effort.

Vasquez [Thomas, McCallum]
McLemore [Fredette, Thornton]
Mbah a Moute [Outlaw, Salmons]
Patterson [Thompson]
Cousins [Hayes, N'Diaye]

bold = people in the rotation, underlined = garbage time, nothing = they don't deserve minutes

I agree, but I would start JT over Patterson. I also agree about Jimmer off the bench and Thornton warming his seat all night long. Salmons shouldn't even be allowed to enter the arena.

You know how you keep Hayes' guy from clogging the paint? Have Hayes set off-ball screens for McLemore and Outlaw to free them up for outside shots while Cousins pounds it down low. Off-ball motion was pretty good in game 1 and has been getting progressively worse. Some of that is on Cousins who hasn't been passing out of doubles (gotta reward folks for their work.) Most of the rest of it is that Thornton and Salmons just don't move off-ball terribly well except for the occasional backdoor cut.

Vasquez
McLemore
Mbah A Moute
Patterson
Cousins

Would be my prediction. Not who I would start, but who I think Malone is leading towards after this past game where he made those comments.

I don't know that this is enough to create a huge change in team play, by the way. For the Vasquez defenders who claim his struggles are largely because no one of the team can hit a shot, I'm not sure adding McLemore to the mix does a whole lot for him. Mbah A Moute can't shoot. Patterson, if he's still in the lineup, hasn't been able to shoot. This also leaves Vasquez as the only player in this lineup that can handle the ball, like, at all.

I think Outlaw has a good shot at landing the SF job as well, and he can shoot - so that would make a little more sense to me.

This could improve team defense, which is good! We need to improve in that area, but the first units offensive production has been poor, and I don't think this is enough to solve that.

Vasquez

For the Vasquez defenders who claim his struggles are largely because no one of the team can hit a shot, I'm not sure adding McLemore to the mix does a whole lot for him.

I'm not sure how you figure. Ben has been about as pure as you could hope for from behind the arc. How is a guy shooting like this not going to help a point gaurd in Vasquez who is looking for hot players to make shots?

Vasquez, Ben, Outlaw/Luc, JT/PPat, Cuz

This was my desired preseason lineup right here. I wanted Ben to get as much experience as possible and I don't see much of a difference between PPat/JT. Luc I want to start and Outlaw has been showing the effort so Johnny Boy can go bye bye.

If I ran the zoo my starters would be:
pg Vasquez (short leash)
sg Mc Lemore
sf Outlaw (until Luc is ready to take more time
pf JT (with time at the 5 if DMC gets into early foul trouble.
C Obviously DMC

bench
pg IT (possible time at 2 with GV)
sg Jimmer (assuming he keeps hustling)
sf Luc possible time for PPat in match ups
pf Um.....well PPat or Chuck wagon depending on match ups... but pleas in tight games leave either JT or DMC on the court so some one can get a rebound please?
c As much as possible shift JT to the 5 then bring in a pf.

Finely let McCallum and N' Day get some time for a serious assessment in game time situation... maybe they are both not ready for prime time but maybe, just maybe we have 5-10 mina night center who can defend the hoop, and/or a defensive pg who can work with our undersized PG.

Thorton and Slamons will be referred for reassignment or reeducation.
