Praising Lafayette Lever and his amazing PG career

Fat Lever, Kings Director of Player Development is one of the greatest point guards in NBA history, but few seem to know how good he was over his eleven year pro career. The 6'3" Arizona State product (Arkansas born) is the greatest rebounding PG ever IMO - forget Jason Kidd, Magic Johnson or whoever else might be thrown in the mix. I remember in mid-late 1980's often grabbing the newspaper not just to check Kings box score, but glancing at the Denver Nuggets for a peek at what Fat Lever did the night before. I could care less about those Nuggets, just a fan of NBA tough-minded pros like Lever - and there were very few PG's as good as him at the time. For Fat Lever 15-20 pts, 10-12 rebounds, 8-10 assists was - well, routine.

In 1987-88 he had a game against MJ's Chicago Bulls that produced an incredible line of: 31 pts, 20 assists, 16 rebounds, 6 steals.

How many Kings fans know what a helluva player he truly was, how many current Kings players know it? I have long appreciated Fat and think he deserves much more recognition for his amazing NBA accomplishments.

Now, Mr. Lever - if you could just impart some of that incredible defensive intensity and rebounding prowess you brought every single night of your sterling basketball career to the slacker 2008-09 Kings:(

How good, how great was Lafayette "Fat" Lever you say... stats don't lie...

The first live NBA game I ever went to was Kings v. Nuggets during the 85-86 season. Fat and Alex English did a number on the Kings IIRC. I just looked over his career and damn if those are some impressive averages from 1985 to 1990, he pretty much averaged 19 9 and 9. For whatever reason I had no idea he was our Director of Player Development. Fat would probably be a better option at the point RIGHT NOW than Beno. :D
