Potential Free Agent/Trade/Sign Tracker, '25-'26 Season

Eras are different. I'm not doing the legwork, but I'd bet that those guys were of average PG size during their prime era. Sure, there was Magic, but you didn't have a ton of 6'4"+ PGs to my recollection like we do now.
If you've got the elite talent to ball handle, pass, and shoot. 1-2" or whatever isn't going to matter much

Back then the conventional wisdom was that tall = unskilled, so PG was often smaller than what we'd see today while in modern ball bigs are expected to have more skill and are slightly smaller. I think the net is that we get a lot more talented skill players while the traditional big man is a dying breed. Just being 7'2 with some rebounding and blocking ability won't earn you a backup C spot today. And because of that size is a little more evenly distributed with taller guards and smaller forwards, plus more interchangeability.

then we've got Drew Eubanks, who has hung around as a backup

This was shared in the Keon trade thread but I thought it might be worth discussing further. If we buy out Deebo (in the case of no trade) that would put us just under 200 mil for payroll for the 10 players listed (obviously that number goes down if we pick 2 or lower). 11-15 roster spots still need to be filled, Cardwell almost assuredly one of them. Heck, if Deebo isn’t on the team we would actually have 6 spots to fill. It’s hard to imagine Scott did that Hunter trade without knowing he could do another deal now to get off more money.

If Deebo cannot be moved, I would ask him if he would take say 7 million dollars instead of that 10 million dollar buy out for next year. If yes, he could be cut immediately and sign with one of the following below apron playoff contenders: Denver, Toronto, Philly or Thunder. Of course we would rather get compensated for him via trade, but if we can’t work something out this saves us a few million for next season and frees up 30 min of playing time.

If they wanted Monk (apparently they did) what else do we have to take back to make salary on him work? And would they give us a draft pick for our trouble since most of the league seems to have written Dillingham off?

If they want a point guard, how about we send them Russell Westbrook, McDermott (salary match) and Eubanks (salary match) for Dillingham. I wouldn't even ask for a draft pick. If they want someone who is performing at a high level and has a playoff experience and won't cost them a lot, Westbrook would fit the bill.

Dillingham (or Jared McCain) is exactly the type of buy low, young players the Kings should be taking swings on. As long as the price is low, I would take a swing on DIllingham or Jared McCain.

The report I saw was that they wanted Monk, but I saw they also want Giannis so umm. ok.

Looking back over the past summer and the past month, nearly every team in the NBA is reluctant to make big deals or sign big contracts due to penalties built into the current Collective Bargaining Agreement. Teams are saying no to two-year contracts and maximum contracts, as well, unless they are dealt to a member of the Olympic team under the age of 30.

I have a feeling that the NBA and the Players Association are going to amend the current CBA because it severely knee-caps both sides, management and players alike.

a lockout needs to occur to right this ship, won't happen until owners cause it though

Grizzlies apparently asked for Jacquez/Ware and a first from Miami, and were never serious about taking a negligible package for Morant

I'm thinking ahead, but lets assume that sac lands one of Boozer, Wilson, Dyabante this summer. We are already in the tax with the Hunter deal so i'd assume there's no schroder type signing coming in this summer. Is Carter positioned to be our starting pg for 2026-2027?

Carter/Monk
LaVine/Nique
Murray/Hunter
Boozer or wilson/Cardwell
Sabonis/Maxime

You'd have to fill 5 spots, but this would be all minimums and 2nd rounders. Of course we could find a trade with Hunter, Sabonis, or Monk during the off-season. But interesting to think Carter goes from DNP to starting pg lol

Watching the OKC/Houston game and I can't believe Houston didn't get a PG. Shepphard is such a liability down the stretch. Monk would have killed as the backup PG
He’s gonna be unplayable in the playoffs literally can’t defend anyone

Problem is that Monk isn't much of a defender either. Probably a big part of the reason he wasn't able to be moved

Players will strike at the next CBA, I am almost sure of it.

On the other hand I think this has been a nightmare for most owners too. The rationale for it was primarily Steve Ballmer. There may be some new billionaire owners with deep pockets as well, but I don't think any of them would go as deep (or maybe even as dirty) as Ballmer did.

The answer is what we should have done this season: PG by committee with Monk, Carter and Nique

I just wonder if they'd actually allow that, or are we going to trade hunter/sabonis for a pg in the summer. Either way, im setting my expectations as mikel brown so I cant be disappointed lol

Yep. So Doug and Domas got their PG. Two of 'em, in fact. And what did the Kings do with all of that newfound backcourt "leadership"? They created a stagnant, putrid, bottom-three offense that would not have been any worse had they never acquired either Schroder nor Westbrook in the first place.

That it may have been others pressuring for the signing of additional PG help does not absolve Perry of those acquisitions, folks. In fact, it's a rather worrisome development in my eyes. There's all this talk from certain corners of the fandom about Perry "managing Vivek", which is a dubious notion unto itself, but where was he to offer a polite "no" to the likes of Doug and Domas? It's as simple as saying, "I'm treating this as a gap year, and I want to see what I've got on this roster before I go cluttering the backcourt any further."

Player-GMing almost never works out in the NBA. I love Domas. Huge fan. Among his biggest defenders on the board. But he ain't done nearly enough to be demanding anything related to personnel. And Perry shouldn't be walking into his first year with a mind to placate those who may not even be a part of the team's long-term plans.

The only part of this that gives me hope-
I think Doug, vivek, and domas all thought this roster can win without fox.
Perry came in knowing it was trash from the jump. He got his 3 rookies and traded a pick to get 1.

Vivek and domas pushed for russ and he probably didnt push back because it was obvious to everyone this quad of russ-lavine-demar-domas might be the worst fitting 4 guys in the league.

If the boss thinks you can win and you know you cant, let him make it worse to ultimately prove your point. And now we seem to be leaning into the tank, and Perry talking about just the start. Time will tell, but this is me trying to be optimistic about Perry lol
