Potential Free Agent/Trade/Sign Tracker, '25-'26 Season

If Kings go full Kangz and screw up Ellis remaining a King, that will 100% be the final straw with this organization for me dating back to family season tickets from the very first season. That will end it for me personally.

He’ll get minuets but how many are available when he’s the backup SG he should be getting 30mpg but he won’t come close to that
Well this was the depth chart you wrote -
Schroeder/russ/carter
Lavine/monk/ellis
DDR/Nique
Keegan/Eubanks
Sabonis/max

Even if you assume Carter and Nique don't play. Where to the minutes come?
Schroder (28) Russ (20)
LaVine (24) Monk (24)
DDR (20) LaVine (9) Keon (15)
Keegan (34) DDR (14)
Sabonis (34) Eubanks (14)

This would be a disaster but it's the closest thing I can find where all the starters get their mins and Keon plays. An absolute disaster in terms of size and defense.

There's no legit path to Russ being on this roster without at least 1 of Demar, Monk, LaVine getting shipped out.

Yeah, this unfortunately looks like the path we're headed down. Perry and Vivek seem committed to securing that #9 seed at the expense of our future. We'd be all but guaranteed to have the worst defense in the league so even the 9 seed might be too optimistic.

Not borderline. And 41 wins is not happening unless one the younger guys breaks out in a big and unexpected way. Picking up Westbroke will further lessen chances of that.
Right, also, it would neutralize both Domas and Keegan's effectiveness. Keegan might set his sights on greener pastures elsewhere after this season. I wouldn't blame him.

Last year 32 wins would've gotten the Kings about 8th pick in the draft give er take - who knows - they should really go the NFL route with the draft instead of ping-pong balls.

Ellis’s agent is also Schroder’s agent, Keegan’s agent, and Doug McDermott’s agent. Fairly certain he’s more than happy to work with Sacramento’s front office.
Why I said if nothing changes. And if I’m Ellis and my agent conspired to bury me on the bench prior to unrestricted free agency I would likely fire him.

Yeah, same. This is starting to look like a worst-case scenario for Ellis. Monk was offered to GS already and Perry probably wants Westbrook as a backup PG so neither of those guys should block Keon Ellis if all of the other dominoes fall as intended, but there's still the Zach LaVine problem and we don't know yet if Perry is leaning toward re-signing LaVine or not. I would assume not but I get the impression Scott Perry was brought in specifically to do what Vivek wants and LaVine seems to be the type of player he flips out over.

Keon Ellis and Nique Clifford would make for a terrific SG rotation if Zach somehow disappears from the roster and I'd like to see Devin Carter get minutes at backup PG, not a one-year rental like Westbrook. If we end up seeing only spot minutes for Ellis and Clifford plays at SF or not at all it wouldn't surprise me. Those are typical Kings moves. But I would be very disappointed.

After watching him in summer league, I should think small forward would be a natural position for Clifford. According to ESPN, he is the same height as DeRozan, 6' 6", but weighs twenty pounds less at 200. (Without shoes, 6' 6.25".) His vertical leap at the combine was 31".

The more I think about it, forget Bulls West, time to merge the organizations and create a truly wondrous landscape of mediocrity featuring Lavine and Derozen into their 40s for the facination of iso-basketball fervor. The new motto shall be, "We shoot the ball, all other priorities rescinded"

A smart team has him at SG dumb teams like the kings put him at SF to make the team small

The discussion was about whether Keon Ellis should sign an extension with Sacramento or look for a better opportunity elsewhere. In that context, it is particularly relevant if his path to a starting role is blocked by LaVine or not. Especially since the new GM just traded a future pick in order to take another SG in the draft this year.

Yeah but DeMar DeRozan played SG for the first 10 years of his career. Veterans sometimes move up a position late in their careers as they lose speed because it's easier for them to use muscle and savvy to gain an edge than it is for them to keep up with younger, quicker athletes. Clifford can probably play SF but making that his primary position negates most of his size/strength advantage. That might not be a problem if the team still has a physical advantage somewhere but we're looking at lineups with Domas at C, Keegan at PF, and Schröder at PG so we're undersized almost everywhere.

Shouldn’t this be in the potential free agency thread? I meant to put it there but not sure why it got moved here. He is a forward who can play defense.
It was in the Kuminga thread. But yes, these should all be together in the potential free agent thread, not the NBA thread...will fix...

I guess it’s low risk, but 6’7 guys who can play don’t get waived. He’s likely just another Kessler Edwards, Jalen Slawson, etc.

Kessler Edwards actually showed some ability to play basketball to the point that when the Mavs were down to like six active players and the ball boy, he was starting and playing heavy minutes while OMax was still somehow not even in their rotation though.

How are you not in a rotation with six active player haha

I think he was exasperated about the questions about Perry resigning Lavine, given that there were numerous reports in July about Perry having zero interest in resigning Lavine. Sometimes it feels like we go round and round, rehashing the exact same questions and answers, every few months, like Groundhog Day.

I see. The whole month of July was pretty much wiped out for me due to family circumstances so I missed whatever Zach LaVine discussions recently took place. I don't expect him to be signed to a contract extension but with this team it's hard to know a year out what the plan is.

While not a good shooter. Oliver is a good ball handler and good at defense and if i am not mistaken was originally drafted by the kings a few years ago. I think he could be a good back up

The Mavs literally had to play OMax as a undersized C when he did play he was so unskilled, the guy might legit be the first Maverick to be less skilled than Dwight Powell during Dwight's long tenure he's not even Euroleague level as a player.
