Potential Free Agent/Trade/Sign Tracker, '25-'26 Season

So DLo said he has been getting his insider texts on Westbrook and the kings are a real possibility. If that happens I wonder if we get a trade within the next couple days or if things are going to drag out for awhile.

Soooooo... chasing the likes of Dennis Schroder and Russell Westbrook (who is entering his 18th season in the NBA) is considered "aggressive and opportunistic"? I mean, you can make the argument that both could be useful/productive mind-the-gap signings as the Kings work out their long-term plans, but I'd hardly call these the kinds of moves that an aggressive or opportunistic GM makes. These are the moves you make when you don't know what direction to commit to yet.

Feels like Kings fans are forgetting about the year the Thunder delayed their rebuild to have Horford and CP3 teach Shai and Dort how to play for a season.

True. The only difference would be they actually played minutes. This would be straight up watch and learn from the bench or in practice until the team is clearly a trainwreck on the floor. If it is. One would assume this is still a team certainly at least in the play in running.

This is starting to feel a bit like the offseason FA "win" of Rondo, Belinelli, and Koufos. Nothing totally wrong with it, but it's a big "ehhh" that will be trumpeted as something important. I'm OK with Dennis as a guy in our rotation. Rather not him start, but if that's the best we can do so be it. I definitely wouldn't be looking to sign Russ. Yes he's a non-stop competitor but often to his own detriment and hasn't really been a positive difference maker for a number of years.

At the end of the day, I'm willing to accept some level of head scratching on the decision making if the overall goal is to turn us from a collection of nice guys with a focus on pretty offense, to a hard nose in your face defensive team.

The only scenario bringing in Dennis and Russell makes sense is if we completely clear out monk, ddr and possibly lavine. And you need the ball handlers to fill that void.

I dont see any way they add to this current core and make it better

And then you're actually replacing better players with older, lesser talents. Hopefully this is about culture and continuing to bring along Jones, Carter, Keon, Keegan, and the new guys but this pretty clearly looks like an "Alright Domas, you asked for it, now what?".

I’d imagine the theory would be to try and win (they probably won’t) and if it doesn’t work out you have Deebo, Russ and Dennis on the block come trade deadline (maybe they can get some future seconds to play with) or in the offseason. If trades don’t happen you can buy out Deebo and not re-sign Russ and all of a sudden that log jam is gone. Lavine is on an ender at that point and they can either negotiate a more reasonable extension if they so chose or look to move him. I’m good with it as long as they don’t trade Devin for nothing. If they insist on moving him they need to get something back of value.
