Postgame Quotes-vs. Minnesota

Kings Coach Rick Adelman
“I’m just really disappointed. Somehow, some way, this group has to get some sense of urgency, and they just don’t seem like they have it. I don’t know why; I wish I knew. We talked about how this team has been in the past – good passing team, good shooting team, they’re going to run their stuff – and you have to go out and you have to compete and you have to get after them. We just pretty much let them do what they wanted to do the first half. It’s disappointing because you are not going to get anything going as a team, and you’re not going to do it unless you get out there and play with a sense of urgency.”

Regarding the starting five:
“It’s pretty obvious that I gave them enough time and nothing was changing. The group that went in there started really competing, going after it. Their best players were one for four. (Michael) Olowokandi was posting up; (Wally) Szczerbiak was coming off screens with no one even close to him. That type of stuff shouldn’t happen. It happens because you’re not playing hard enough – you’re not playing the way you need to play – and when that group came in that I put in there, they were going after it. At some point something has to wake them up, I don’t know what it is.”

“If we would have played the way we did against Miami, we probably would have won tonight, but we didn’t. You can’t do that; you’re not going to turn it around unless they want to do it as a team. The talking and all that stuff was fine, but you have to go out on the court and do it.”

“I know it’s a long season. If we play well enough we can become a decent team. I am to a point where maybe someone else off of the bench has to try something different. I’ve been trying to give people opportunities, but we have to change what’s going on here. I don’t know what that’s going to be. What’s happening right now is that they got a false sense of security because they won those three games earlier in the last home-stand, but then they fell back in the same pattern and now they’ve lost three in a row.”

Corliss Williamson
“Coach talked about our effort at the end of the game and how we didn’t play with any type of fire tonight. They were the aggressors all night. They seemed to be having fun and we were just going through the motions tonight. We (the second unit) tried to bring some energy to the game. It’s like we were dead all game. When we came into the game, Coach was looking for us to try and bring some kind of spark and hopefully have something we can build off of. We can’t come out the way we’ve been playing the past two games and expect to be any type of factor. We’re losing at home, so it’s got to be embarrassing especially when you don’t come out with the effort you’re supposed to have.”

“The first thing we have to do is look in the mirror. Each person has to see what we’re not bringing to the game – see how we’re playing as individuals. Once you pick up your game as an individual, especially with your effort, it’s going to help the team. I think collectively we can do a better job and it’s just a matter of guys taking pride and going out and sacrificing whatever it is they have to sacrifice to bring their energy out on the court every night.”

Mike Bibby
“It’s tough. Both teams didn’t score too many points. We didn’t play like we could. I think the game was a little sloppy. No, there’s not something I can put my finger on with us. Yeah, I am embarrassed. I know we’re better than what we’re doing. I know that. We got to play the game a little bit more on both ends of the court. That should help at the least.”

MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES

Timberwolves Head Coach Dwayne Casey:
“It was a grind it out game a kind of game that we needed to play through. We had to play through the frustration. We had a lot of turnovers, and that was something that I talked about at half time. We were shooting ourselves in the foot. Turnovers are something that we need to limit if we want to grow together as a team. They did a good job on Garnett in the low post. He was more of a quarterback for us tonight. It was one of those nights where he just couldn’t find it on offense but he was able to contribute to the win in other ways.”

Wally Szczerbiak:
“We are getting better as a team, we are just trying to find our stride and we’re starting to get comfortable. We’re still playing great defense and now we’re starting to do it on the other end of the floor. We just got to keep the pedal to the medal - play aggressive and push the ball up the floor. I know it looks glaring having 14 turnovers at half, but we’re still up 12 points. So that means we’re playing a lot more aggressive than we were against the Lakers and Clippers. That type of play will get us ahead in games. We’re going to have to live with a few turnovers here and there. As we continue to run and push, I think we will take care of the ball more and more because we’re get more comfortable with that style of play. We haven’t really done that much all year, so it was a good sign that we played that way and carried it through the whole game.”

Kevin Garnett:
“I was happy tonight, particularly for Kandi (Olowokandi). He’s been in a nice little rhythm and it’s good to see him carry the load a little bit. Wally had it going, Marko, Huddy, came off the bench and gave us a huge lift as they always do. I just try and keep balls alive, give my usual one thousand percent effort, and just try and lead us in a whole other way. It happens, rhythm wise I just didn’t have it going, but I did other things to impact the game. As a team, we try and get (Kandi) some touches. It fuels him, he gets active on the defensive end, get him to block some shots and it inspires him.”

"I don't know" and "we talked about it"....the same quotes he uses after every game. Why don't we get someone who does not and actually holds players accountable when they aren't listening to him.

I guess the question at this point is what else can Rick do? He sent a message the regulars that playing with that type of effort will land them a nice cushy seat on the bench for long stretches of time, even if it's painfully obvious that those on the floor don't have the talent to win the game --- at least they were giving proper effort.

I wouldn't mind seeing him mess with the starting lineup a bit. Start Skinner and Cisco and bring Bonzi and Reef off the bench, or Peja instead of Bonzi. Might not be bad to let Peja work his way back into his shot by playing against the second line of defense (kind of like a pitcher taking a couple starts at triple AAA when he's making his way back from an injury) instead of the other team's best perimeter defender right off the bat. Or give Bonzi and Reef their 30 minutes, but at different times, just to see if having a couple of acting energy guys on the floor can help at the defensive end.

I agree, I'd like to see Garcia starting with Bonzi coming off the bench -- Bonzi would be a great energy guy and could give his rough and tumble game off the bench. Garcia showed a ton in extended minutes vs. the Spurs and he showed that he can really be something with the starters.

Of course, then the Bonzi Wells spontaneous combustion countdown begins...

I wouldn't mind seeing this line up:

PG Bibby
SG Bonzi
SF Reef or KT
PF Brad
C Skinner

If we get beat by quicker SF's.... so be it. As long as the rebounding is there. Not too sure how I feel about Garcia starting but the guy is all hustle.

Martin should play point instead of Hart. This guy cannot shoot to save his life. At least Martin has a high advantage on most PG's out there and is a better rebounder and defender.

but when i say it i get bashed.......

Given that Bonzi has been perhaps our brightest light and only consistent hustle guy, I'll pass on moving him to the bench for an inevitable meltdown. A starter shakeup would not bother me however, nor would this being the beginning of a change in the bench rotations.

I want this lineup

C- whoever we trade for
PF - whoever we trade for
SF - whoever we trade for
SG - whoever we trade for
PG - whoever we trade for

Coach - whoever takes over after we fire Adleman.

That's who I want to see out there right now =/

This thread was getting interesting with different kind of proposition until I get to this.

1. Start Kenny Thomas one game over Peja and give him starter type minutes... see how he does to decide further games.

2. If Kenny does not start then play him, Skinner and Corliiss all around
15 - 20 minutes a night.

3. Make some kind of change to the line-up.

This is what I've been hoping for since day one. The only other guy that should be coming off our bench is Hart, to spell Bibby. But the bench should consist of Kenny, Corliss, Skinner, Jason...thats it.

Here's the problem --

Kenny PF/SF
Corliss SF/PF
Skinner PF/C
Hart PG

No guards. No outside shooting. No ballhandling. And of course we squish the kids, and for what? So we can win 44 instead of 40?

Like many things on this team, the bench is unbalanced and poorly constructed. Our steady vets all play the same position.

I've been a Kevin Martin advocate for a long time, but Garcia has just brought it more this season. Given that the starters haven't exactly been overwhelming this season, I'm in favor of a five man bench of Hart, Garcia, Corliss, Kenny, Skinner. Defense, shooting, rebounding (theoretically), toughness. Play the starters 30 and let these guys go the rest.

Roll your eyes all you want. My post was based on how I feel about the current product on the floor. Forgive me for being mad about spending money on people that don't give any kind of an effort out there  Roleplay lineups all you want. Until they put something on the floor that wants to be out there, and put forth some type of effort than I don't care if they all leave.

And I will say it again.. Thank God for the Bengals :D

Reminder: Things are going be really contentious around here for a while. Let's all try and remember we're here because we share a passion. We all love the Sacramento Kings. We may have different ways of expressing it and right now we may feel like taking them ALL to the woodshed, but we are all still fans enough to still be posting on a website dedicated to the team.

Let's just keep it civil, okay, and not let things dissolve into personal arguments.

I'm as guilty as the next person, so I'm going to try my best.

:)

Water off my back at the end of the day. I know people around here are as frustrated if not more so than I am. It's almost like the chemistry between Kings fans is falling apart as well :(
