*sigh* im really startin to hate this team (phoenix). We could of easily won this game. we had two chances to either tie or take the lead with less than a minute left and squandered both trips. I felt like we should of stayed with a perimeter shot to close it out (powell was feeling it those last minutes!) instead of a close range jumper. Actually it shoudnt have even come down to the last shot. Think about all those free throws we missed tonite....thats what lost it for us! We need to start beating this team, or else theyre going to think they have our number..

I hope you are talking about Phoenix and not Sacramento.
It was a very frustrating game. I think the key was the Monarchs inability to crack that zone. Talk about offense impotence. Nothing was happening out there outside of RB's dominance on the post.

I agree we should have called a time-out as well. We just kept passing the ball & the shot clock was at 5 or 6 sec...then a rushed shot or turnover.
The free throw shooting was not very good. Just a rusty game. Proud how we battled back, just dissapointed with the loss.
Why is it that Taurasi gets away with throwing out her elbow to clear away the defender? We also forgot about her a few times while she was complaing to the officials & then proceeds to sink a wide open 3. Even K. Miller was on the verge of tears on the bench, she is always good for a laugh...too bad tonight they got the ''W'
Nice to see Yo & Candace get recognized, Yo was on the verge of tears honoring her daughter...a very nice moment.

I'm going to definitely give it up to Brunson...I haven't looked at the box score for the game, saw her numbers in the prediction game results thread. Can we PLEASE not waste these nights from her??? WTG B!!! Outstanding...
Everybody else...ummmm...hmmmm...Let's try not to get punked like that again, let's try to get more done...like say NOT turning the ball over 24 times...and missing damn free throws(I think I keep asking for this).

Our offense was offensive last night. We wasted so many open 3's we could have easily won this if we made what we normally make. I mean Kara and Nicole going 3 for 11? Dont forget to add Chelsea and Sho-Ro's 2 of 9. The only ones which had a decent 3 point shooting night was Ticha (1 of 1) and Haynie (2 of 4)....
I agree Nicole should have shot the last shot...she was feeling it.

I'll diagram my simple play....Nicole gets the ball at half court and (pretends to walk it up to the NBA 3 range setting up a play)....we get all this court movement then....surprise, she uncorks a three, sinks it and we win. I think that's better than what we got there in the last 1 minute. (frustration speaking here).
Oh and before I forget, the offense is still a mess.

Yes i was wondering that too! There this one instance late in the game where Taurasi was wildly flailiing her elbows and im like wha-??? Im not a big fan of her at all

Some things I noticed besides what has been said was we allowed too many easy uncontested lay ups. That's a cool thing about attending a game in person is you have a better look at how the plays are being developed on the floor and then you scream "Oh no!" before it even happens.
Those turnovers really hurt us too. That's 24 less shots we could have had at the basket.
Like someone else commented, I don't understand why we didn't call a time out with 25 seconds or so left in regulation. I could care less if it would have allowed the defense to set itself up. But that's why I am not a coach.
Great game by Brunson as she has stepped up her game.

That will never happen... She don't want the ball at Winning Time. The Houston game in 05 was an accident. In theroy Yeah... Nicole should have had the ball in her hands. We Do not pay Chelsea Newton to take the shot at the end of the game.
I wish I could be proud of our girls Like NBH... I can't today. Bekkah gets an A for the game.(except for free throws UGH!!!) Looking forward to seeing more of what Frolich can do. But What is up with Powell and Lawson?
I can deal with them missing shots. That is all part of the game. But I cannot deal with them not demanding the ball at winning time. And while Nicole felt it in the last minute of the game, where was she the other 37 minutes? We have her specifically so she can take those type of shots and Lawson and Nicole passed up one shot after another after another.
I am Sick of that.
I am not Okay with that.
To Powell's credit... She has done lots of other nice things well til last nights fiasco. But right now we really do not have a margain of error. 4 points going into the the quarter from her is Downright UNACCEPTABLE.
No one really played well so I don't want to just single Powell out. But that is what really sticks in my craw this afternoon. I know there is a lot more... FTs, Defense, etc...
I guess what really bothers is that NOBODY WANTED THE SHOT. Chelsea ended up taking it, but Our Shooters didn't want the shot. Good Lawd.
And Get use to Seeing Zones people, cause until we shoot people out of them We are gonna get Zoned til the Cows come home.
The only player that I trust to take a perimeter shot with a game on the line is Lawson. I have little faith in Powell, and no faith in anybody else... I trust the ball in Penicheiro's hands with the game on the line, but only because I trust that she's going to get the ball to whoever has the best look. Other than that, I don't feel comfortable seeing any plays for someone else to take an outside shot down the stretch, unless the "play" is to get Brunson or Yo Griffith that offensive rebound.
Somebody should remind her that "she is the hired gun"...anyone remember that? I am not convinced though that she didn't want the shot at crunch time. She (and Kara) has always made crunch shots for this team a few instances would be....

In this game too (Nicole hits a three on a runner to make the score 72-70....to name a few
I think it's more of, she's not willing to take a contested shot. TOO MUCH PASSING: what happens is, they pass thinking they'd get a better shot, and keep passing, until time runs down and they attempt a hurried and contested shot.
IF nicole/kara hit just one more three instead of going 3/11, we'd have won that game.
I'm not saying it's their fault though, coz outside of Bek, EVERYONE didn't play well enough to win.

I know what your saying Luv13...our shooters have to want the ball in crunch time. I guess when I say proud, I meant to say happy we had a chance to win the game twice! I'm equally frustrated at not gettin the W...
I couldn't even help Taurasi up after taking a fall at my feet, mostly because it was after she rolled over one of our players...she's slick the way she uses her elbows to clear space...even Yo pointed it out to the officials.

I didn't say she hasn't hit some big shots. But she is a reluctant shooter. Most of her "Big" shots have come in a Panic.
And what I mean by that is for Example is Last season against Conn.
She scored 17 in the second half of that game. That was impresssive. But we were down by 17 and needed quick shots to get back in it. She didn't think about it, she just knew we needed to get shots up.
05 against Houston, she was not the first option. DeMya missed the pick to get her open. But she knew she had to get a shot up.
And in the instances you refered to same thing. Need to get a shot up. No time to think. When she is in that mode she is at her best because she is just relying on her BBall IQ and knowhow.
Again that is to her credit.
What Burns me to no end is that she was in a game winning situation. And she wants NO PART OF THAT. NONE. IMO We should have been going for the win, and settled for the Tie. But right now, we don't seem to have people who want that shot. And this includes Kara. Kara has always wanted that shot. What has happened to change that? And How the hell do we change it back?
You can best believe if it had Been That Girl from Phoenix, she would have held the ball til within 6 sec and made her move. I am not sure that would have been Nicole's style, but it was when she was at Stanford.
I do agree with Siem in that I didn't mind having the ball in Ticha's hands. Cause why not, if Bekkah got open she would have at least found her to tie the game. But my thoughts are within 10 seconds Kara or Nicole should have had the ball in their hands. More important, They should have wanted the ball in their hands. And to me, that really has to change.
But that didn't win or lose us the ball game. This ball game could have been won on many different points. We could have defended better. We could have shot free throws better. We could have keep the TO's to a minimum. So I should be a little more objective about it.
With that being said... This team needs a killer instinct. We really need to finsh off teams, and not try to outlast them.

You know that is a very good point.
I would love to have taken a shot earlier in the possession. But then we would be second guessing Jen-Nay about why she didn't run the clock down.
There were a number of thing to complain about.
But your points are well taken. Lets just win in Houston and get a really good week of practice in.

I know this is an old thread but I just happened upon this site, so wanted to comment.
I was at this game and just the other day caught a replay on TV. I did not realize that Nicole stayed in the locker room until a bit into the second half and when she came back, she looked like she was pretty sick. So that may explain her shooting woes.
Also on the last play of the game it looked clear that the pass was intended for Nicole, but Chelsea picked it off instead and went to the basket. You could see Nicole's obvious dismay, because she was setting up to take the winning 3 pointer.
Nicole is one of the best shooters in the WNBA. Along with Kara, they are lethal. She has a bad night and some of you want to throw her under the bus. GEEZ!

But I have a history with driving big Buses. Just ask Ticha... or Poor Kim Smith. I have fired Kim so many times it is unreal.
Then again I don't think I have unrealistic expectations in the case of Powell. Since I feel the need to be completely and unabashingly honest tonight I will share with you a little secret.
I wouldn't worry too much. Nicole Powell doesn't stay up at night wondering why Luv13fan threw her under the Bus. Believe me... She in fact thinks I am a big ****ing Clown.
For the record...
I think Nicole Powell is an amazingly gifted young woman. I actually have a great deal of respect for her Body of Knowledge. She has a very high basketball IQ and the talent to match. She is also one of the few people that could quit her job playing basketball, walk into Anytown, USA and with her degree make about 200k.
So take heart... Nicole will find some passion. The Bus will drive on... Life will be good.

I think you may want to take a moment and "sense the personalities of the board." Perhaps if you have a lot of time on your hands read back a few hundred threads.
I am a bigger fan of Nicole's than you think. In fact I will state it again.

If you sence anything from me about Nicole, it is frustration.
Sheryl Swoopes is out. Nicole should be the leading contenter for the STARTING 3 on the Western All-Star team. No reason why she shouldn't be there. I believe in her. Everyone on the board believes in her. I wish she believed in herself and her ability to dominate a game as much as we did. Or IMO wanted to dominate a game. Again my frustration.
I have complimented Nicole and defended Nicole far more than I have criticized her. I have certainly defended her when people said she couldn't defend at the 3 position. (Although she has been a little spotty lately).
So before you throw me under the bus check your facts. I wont act right and say things that certainly need to be challenged. But if you are gonna check me on something, check me for the right reasons.
As for the Mendiola pic... What does that have to do with Nicole???? I met Giuliana long before Nicole was with the Monarchs. I Luved 13 before there was a 14. Jules and I are friends and exchange e-mails. And not that it is any of your business, but I chose to keep my handle and keep her picture up to encourage Jules to keep working at it. Because it is her goal to get back to the W.
So again... Get your facts straight.
Have I thrown Nicole under the Bus? Perhaps... Should I ease up on her? Maybe.
But like said before... Eventually she will get it...The Bus will Drive on.... Life will be Good.

As far as Mendiola is concerned, past history, my friend! If you followed
PAC 10 play, there was a pretty big rivalry between Nicole and Guiliana--if not between them personally, then at least as far as fans were concerned. Nicole was PAC 10 Player of the Year as was Guiliana. Again, just haven't some fun with you!
