Win # 10. I'll take it.

I really love the balance of this team. :D That lockdown defense is really good. No doubt we'll be #1 in opp PPG.
Bek really dominated on the inside and Ticha's assists at the end were quite a show. Glad to see Haynie have a good shooting night, hopefully she's starting to get out of her funk. Go Monarch's!!!

^^ i too agree with the balance of the team. Loved brunson tonite! great game for her, nice to see Haynie knock down some 3's. She doesnt get too much attention, but Scho has improved a lot this season. besides the sloppy 2nd quarter, great game. Looking foward to 2mrrw!

Good game--lots of bench minutes hopefully means more rested players for a a Monarch win in L.A.

Nice to go to a game where the refs let them play the game, and that there was no constant whining at the officials (see: Bill Lambier & the Shock).

Thanks to Houston for beating the Silver Stars tonight and giving us a little more breathing room. We'll take it! :D

One of these times that alley-oop pass that Ticha is sending Bekka's way is going to result in that dunk--I just know it!

Go Monarch's--Beat L.A.!!!

Not exactly what I'd call a textbook lesson on winning, but an "ugly win" is much preferable over a "close loss" anyday!

I'm not sure if it was a matter of the Monarchs' staunch defense or the Liberty's cold shooting and bad ball-handling (at least 24 turnovers by N.Y.), especially during the first period. The M's made 22 turnovers and shooting wasn't . And a halftime score of 26-15? Yikes!

The Monarchs played great in the first period. But I had a feeling that it wasn't going to be that easy for the entire game. Not that the Monarchs was going to do a choke-job like they did last Friday against the Sparks,

Great efforts by Bekkah and Scholanda, though! Nice to see Haynie starting to make her shots. And I'd like to see more of Adrian Williams and Linda Frohlich.

OK. Let's beat L.A. tomorrow! :)

What an ugly game!!!!! But a win is a win.....is a win.

It is without question in my mind that the rise and fall of the 2007 Monarchs depends upon three things:

1. Elevated play of Nicole Powell. If she plays well and more importantly shoot well, Monarchs win. When she does not play well as you saw last night, Monarchs struggle.

2. Continued success of Becky Brunson. (SEE NICOLE POWELL) She is a shoo-in for the Monarchs to get their third Most Improved Player in a row. She is such a joy to watch, and I am looking forward to seeing her dominate the paint as the season progresses.

3. The play of the bench (Robinson, Lawson, Haynie, Williams and Atkinson). without question the best bench in the league and in my opinion the best bench the Monarchs have ever had.

Fear The Fro!!!

Well we got another Ugly win.

Would have loved to see us put the Libs away rather then let them appear to be in the game. I am not sure if it is our defense but we sure have a way of making teams shoot tough shots.

Haynie seems to be coming out of her funk. Not a great day but not a bad day at all. She attacked the Zone and the shot falling can do nothing but help her confidence.

Bekkah... Ditto Amen Amen. She is really coming into her own. Powell... Not making shots but she is taking them early. She did hesitate a little last night but she took the shots she was suppose to for the most part. So I can't complain too much about that. Kara made some really nice shots early on. And that is okay too.

What was the deal with Chelsea and Christon getting into it. I was tickled by that, but hey that is just me.

Scholanda Hoston Dorrell Robinson ***Chew*** She is coming along really nicely. Love seeing her fly to the basket. Tangie is a little bit unsung to. She is grabbing quite her share of key rebounds or broken up a few plays.

But Hey Now...
We had a Linda Frolich sighting... Now I have been calling for us to see more of her for a few reasons. 1) I think we will need another body as the season presses on to give more relief in the post. 2) If we weren't gonna use her we could have keep Brit. 3) If we couldn't use her the trade deadline is coming up and we needed to get someone we could use.

Now if you know me, there is no account for why I like people. No rhyme or reason to it at all. I happened to liked Frolich because she speaks German and I could say FEAR THE FRO!

But it turns out she is not a bad option in the paint either. She is actually physical, Mobile, has a nice shot and she got a block. ( Not so sure how clean the block was) but I am actually pleased with her.

So as U.G.L.Y. as last night's effort was, there was some upsides. I guess we can look to Jen-Nay for that. Save one or 2 games, we have seen the team progress not totally regress. We aren't where we want to be, but we are much better than I thought we might me when this season began, and certainly when DeMya went down.

And I find it encouraging that DeMya can bear weight and Zachara on that knee this soon after surgery...

So back to the scene of the Crime.

Lets make that right ladies...

I thought the depths of offensive output we saw against Chicago and futility against Houston were as low as this team can go, but apparently not. Last night to me was identical to the uncomfortableness of watching that game against Houston.

Ditto what ever body else had to say. I'd only add I would LOVE to see this team figure out what the hell to do against the zone. They were clueless for the most part last night, which puzzles me since they've seen zone all season-so they shouldn't look as lost as they seem when they see it this far into the season.

My guess is Wilkins had no trade value or she would have been moved either at the start of the season or if we could have found someone willing to help out a conference title contending team fill a need. Frohlich is here to fill out a roster and probably was the best available of players currently not on team. I gathered from her cameo last night, she probably aint playing unless somebody her size got hurt.

Part of MBF's post:
...Frohlich is here to fill out a roster and probably was the best available of players currently not on team. I gathered from her cameo last night, she probably aint playing unless somebody her size got hurt.
Speaking of size, the WNBA roster profile indicates that Linda Frohlich is 6'2" and weighs 185 pounds. It seems to me that she is taller than that. I remember at one point when she was standing next to Adrian Williams (who is listed as 6'4"), and it appeared to me that Linda is actually taller than her.

Or maybe it's just my eyes are fooling me.

Thanks for posting the link to Brunson's play of the game Nancgo...
What I really enjoyed was Carolyn Peck's comment...How Brunson was being an animal inside tonight...gotta get excited for a player who lays it on the line. Brunson at times reminds me of Catchings...very physical, strong & determined. I think it possible Brunson can get up higher? They both have those athletic frames & just remind me of some street ballers.

I was happy to see Yo come back for limited minutes, we don't need any serious injuries to our leader.
Kinda surprised that Ticha didn't take her game to the next level again. I still would like to see both Ticha & Nicole take it to the paint a bit more. Maybe take a page out of Sho-Times play book & turn on the jets...''whats the worst that can happen? Maybe they can go to the line more, earn some points at the stripe.

So now I have 4 nicknames so far: Scholanda....Sho-Time
Brunson...The Animal
Newton....The Closer
Kara...K-Law

Go Monarchs..Beat L.A!

See ya all on Friday;)

To kinda close the discussion on Frolich...

You know I guess we saw something totally different. Cause now that I have actually seen her play and her skill set, We would be Stupid not to Play her More... STUPID!!!

But I guess we have to wait for another injury, before we are preimptive in utilizing our assest. She aint DeMya, but she brings skills to the table. And size...

But I guess Jen-nay knows what she wants.
