Post deadline: Noc's role

kingsnation

All-Star
After the smoke of the deadline has cleared and all of the bodies have been moved around - we still have Nocioni. And, he is still behind Donte, Omri and Cisco on the depth chart - which is a good thing, BTW. But, I'm just wondering what his role is going to be now that we've made this trade and he's still here.

Is he going to platoon with Udoka for 10-15 minutes a game? Defensive replacement..Offensive tempo change..?

Coach already said that Donte will see minutes at the 2 and 3.

And will Noc be content in the role he receives from this new rotation, or will he become more grumpy and want out?

Personally, I like his attitude for this young team but only if he LIKES being here and likes his role.

Thoughts?

I don't think he will be happy with his role unless he's consistently getting 24+ minutes a game. I think he will get some minutes but more in the 14-16 range. He he plays well he will earn more mintues -- it's as simple as that. With KMart heading to Houston we need somebody to step up and make some outside shots.

Nocioni's role will reduce along with his production and general happiness as Greene and Casspi's role will increase.

Unfortunate really but since he's so overpaid and old it's unlikely he can be traded until he's an expiring contract.

Eeeeeek!
Isn't that what we have Spence for?:p

Once Garcia is back to game form he will pick up some slack with outside shooting.

the team was doing really well when he was starting. but then he just fell off the earth and has been incosistent the rest of the way. i'm really disappointed we couldn't include him in the ny-hou trade.

Noc is our highest paid player now with beno 2nd and Garcia 3rd. Acutually not to bad all are under 7 mil. Anyway, Noc will see some time and it depends on him how much time he will see. If he gets in a game and immediatley hit a 3 then another then drives in for a layup well he could see more time that game, If he comes in and chucks 2 misses from beyond the arc out of the flow of the offense then he will get the hook. Basically how productive he is decides his fate. Same actually goes for Garcia, Green, Casspi if they are largely ineffective they will sit. Much like it has been the entire year. I don't expect it to change. Same with the Frontcourt. The only player that seems to get a pass is Tyreke although I have seen a few games where Beno gets some extended minutes.

Noc's role is to be the new K9.

Great trade Geoff.

No, I don't think Noc will ever be that disliked. He tries on the court and plays well at times. His outside shot is very helpful when he is on. He plays decent defense, and although he rarely passes the ball, he is a team player. He just thinks he can make everything he puts up no matter how difficult the shot. I like the confidence, but wish he were more selective and passed the ball a few times to see if it comes back to him. Noc can hit the wide open shot, and that is a good thing now that we have an inside presence that can command a double team. Landry will create more open shots than just Tyreke driving and kicking. This will create even more good looks from outside, and with Garcia, Noc, Beno, Greene, and even JT, there will be more shots made and the offense should play better. It seems when the Kings pass the ball and have lots of assisted baskets, they win. Maybe the ball will move more now that K-Mapart is gone. We have plenty of offense and our defense is improving now. I look forward to the second half.

Nocioni is our new flexible piece! With that contract and his production, he is impossible to move, which means we are stuck with him for the next 2 seasons.

The biggest stuff up Petrie made in recent times is not moving Nocioni to the Celtics at the deadline last year. We would have received some expirings and maybe a 2nd round pick and everything would have been great.

Now Nocioni becomes our new KT! :(

There are no perfect teams. Almost every fan base can whine about at least one or two players on their rosters. Nocioni plays defense, he's more than willing to take a charge and he can dish some pretty wicked fouls. He's not KT by any stretch of the imagination.

No, he's not who I would pick if I were assembling the perfect Kings team, but so what? He's not going to be seeing a lot of minutes but he is there in case he's needed for any of the above duties OR to spell one of the kids should something unspeakable happen.

Thats all well and good! But you do NOT pay that type of player $6.5-8million per season to do that!

I am sorry but Nocioni is one of the worst contracts in the league based on his production. Many of us on these boards were saying as early in the season that his contract will prove unmoveable by the end of the season if we is not "showcased" and has a good start to the year.

As it turns out, he has had a very average season so far and drew no interest at the deadline. It was a bad contract when we got it this time last year, and its a worse contract now.

The sort of player you described should never in a million years be getting that sort of money. You sign those sort of role players for $3 million per season MAX!

yeah i agree. udoka does all those things for a measly $800,000 dollars. although i really liked noc at the beginning of the season because he was doing very well as was the whole team but once he and thompson started to struggle the whole season went down hill

Nocioni has been playing like a 10th man all through this season--man, his defense is horrendous. He needs to stop averaging 20 minutes per game--the sooner he does, the more wins we'll have.

I'm not paying him, and neither are you. I guess I'm in the minority but I'm just not fixated on contracts.

My point wasn't about his contract; it was about the need of some here - and on every other message board devoted to a sports team - to seemingly feel it necessary to have at least one player to paint a target on. It just gets old after a while, you know?

Right now, Andres Nocioni should be the absolute LAST thing Kings fans are talking about. We've got new players, we've got a chance to see exciting basketball again, and we've got hope for an incredibly talented batch of younger players.

But whatever. I said what I had to say; I'll leave this thread to those who do enjoy debating contract merits, etc.

:)

Really? Because i freaking hate that chucker. No one here should like him, and if they do, i question how many games they have ever watched this season.

He plays like a rookie....taking dumb shot after dumb shot and i am irate that we couldn't move him for ANYTHING.

Oh please.

Just because you don't like him, I don't think it's necessary to call for tar and feathers. I've watched every single game of this season. Nocioni isn't one of my favorite players but I don't have the problem with him that some here do for the simple reason he was a stopgap acquisition. If you truly believe he's a part of the long-range plans for the Kings, you and I are not watching the same games anyway.

Being irate because we didn't move a role-player just seems a big waste of energy to me. Why not look at what we DID do instead of whining about what wasn't possible?

Im perfectly happy with what we got. Im just tired of his terrible shot selection. He can literally shoot us out of games sometimes. EVERYTIME he catches the ball...he wants to shoot it.

Whether or not we PLAN to have him in our future plans doesn't matter. He has two freaking years left and if its impossible to move him, then guess what? He is going to be here whether we like it or not. And im apart of the absolutely NOT group. Kill me now...

The one advantge to Noc's deal as opposed to Kenny's is that it's declining. He might be overpaid now but in a year or two.... well yah he'll still be overpaid.

Still though, he'll have more value each year and he's flexible enough and we've thinned our wings enough that he might see his minutes increase again. He could definitely help a vet team and there might be some opportunities to trade him. It isn't quite as bad as KTs deal was.

OK, OK Nocioni naysayers, I hear you. But don't overdo it. He is not the worst contract in the league. V21 is correct he can play, he do things we need, he not a greenhorn like most on the team, we need that, he already has his contract so forget about it and hope he can keep contributing, and thank god we don't have to always depend on our still learning kids all the time. We don't lose because of Nocioni, we lose because of some stupid rookie mistake. And now for my opinion.

Nocioni is not a good NBA player and he is overpaid. I will not argue with that.

However, I think that Nocioni brings something intangible to the field. The Kings had a good run with him in the lineup against the Clippers and the Kings also did a lot better when he was starting.

I'm not sure if there is any connection (it could have been Sergio's playmaking for example), but why not see if there is something there?

He is the most knowledgeable veteran on the team and may know some things the kids don't.

Hell we can't get rid of him, why not use him?

you're right. the team was playing really well at the beginning of the season when we ditched the whole mason-may lineup and put noc and hawes in there. and both noc and thompson were playing very well but once the two of them hit the wall the whole team started to struggle. thompson has had some bright spots since then but noc has completely lost his form.
