All teams are bordering each-others market areas and there could be a lot less travel time for division games, and when doing the scheduling it would make things a lot easier when playing 4 team divisions rather than just tossing a team to travel the entire eastern USA.

And just to clarify - the OP didn't create a thread for this. It was part of another discussion and I moved it to its own thread. So if there's any question about it being thread-worthy, it was an administrative decision.

I've always felt that if there is no need for thread, it will die on its own. If not, and there's participation, then obviously, there is a need.

I don't think Seattle needs a team.. They are the 13th largest market and have the Seahawks, Sounders, mariners, UW, Storm and who knows what else. They can't even support the Mariners now, and they are setting records for low attendance. They put forth no political will to keep the team. They don't need a team. With that being said, unfortunately, their group isn't going away, but I think rather than expansion they will have to wait around for the next moving team as I think there is little will for expansion within the top ranks

The Mariners have been a mismanaged mess going on a decade now, and the Mariners were well supported in the bad & mediocre years in the early to mid 2000s. They had record attendance the late 90s & early 2000s. In 2010 the Mariners fielded the worse offense in over 100 years of professional baseball, and the 2011 offense was just as bad. The organization is notorious around the league for consistently making horrible trades, trading away good players/talented youngsters with nothing to show for it in return (just in the last few years Cliff Lee, Brandon League, Brandon Morrow, Adam Jones, Doug Fister, Shin-Shoo Choo), you cant blame the fans for not wanting to show up these days, the on field product has been just absolutely pee poor for 5-6 years now with the exception of King Felix.

Really? I was under the impression that Vancouver lost its team because British Columbians don't give a rat's *** about basketball. An NBA team in Vancouver probably has only a slightly better chance of succeeding than an NBA team in Pittsburgh.

Vancouver's & Western Canada's economy is booming, its an immensely wealthy city that in the past supported the Grizzlies and could easily once again support basketball, its the most expensive city in North America even more expensive than New York. The interest for basketball in Canada is growing. Canada is going to have a number of NBA players in the coming years, next year's likely #1 pick, Andrew Wiggins, who is projected to be the superstar of his generation, is Canadian. This year there will likely be two Canadian lottery picks (Kelly Olynky & Anthony Bennett). Now is the best time for the NBA to expand into a 2nd Canadian market.

Maybe the NBA is meeting for a couple of days prior to the BoG so that they can decide on a way how they handle this whole mess. They don't want to relocate the team but at the same time, they do not want to burn the bridges with Hansen/Balmer group either so I can understand why this is such a delicate situation that will burn a fan base in one city.

The talk of expansion is wishful thinking at this stage. I am sure it will be discussed as an option but its not a decision that can be made in such a short period of time. Its a complex situation and there are a lot of things to consider like the TV deal etc...

In a perfect world, Kings stay in Sacramento and Seattle gets the expansion team and the NBA walks away with $2 billion investment (2 teams and 2 new arenas) but its a bit more complex than that. The money that teams would get from expansion in one hit is nice but it leads to diluted profits from other areas because the teams are getting smaller piece of the pie.

But you have to remember that Utah AND Minnesota are currently in the NW division which is why the hypothetical division groupings, mine included, have one or the other in the NW division.

Minneapolis may be closer to the Atlantic ocean than the Pacific but the majority of sports teams are bunched towards the EC. Therefore, some teams that are in the center, like KC, Minny and the Texas teams, get grouped in the west.

Same with Utah. The WC is a conference with the majority of it's teams closer to Mexico than Canada. Hence why a team smack dab in between both borders winds up in the NW division.

They said before the April 3rd meeting that there would likely be another meeting before the BoG meeting. Remember, after the April 3rd meeting the committee wanted a lot more information from both sides. I presume the meeting is to go over all the additional information received since April 3rd and then review all the information in both scenarios.

Think about it, the last expansion team fetched about $300 million for the league. If the league all of the sudden announced an expansion team option, if I were the Sacramento or Seattle group, I would announce I am out of the bid for the kings and buy the whole new expansion team for $350 million, instead of buying 65% of the current kings for the same Amount of money.

in turn the last group, slow to bow out would be stuck with buying the kings for an inflated price. Or the other group will lower their offer and screw over the Magoofs, because they would have no other option than to sell.

I'm angry as well that the good people who are trying to save our team are having to foist over a ridiculous, record-shattering, extorted 525 as is because of Hansen and the Maloofs. If every city who had an a team in the NBA right now was being forced to 525 over under the threat of relocation 3-4 teams max would be staying put. It is disgusting and the element shouldn't exist, that in order for us to keep our team we have to bid this type of money, shouldn't exist. Even if it stays like this, I would be angry at Hansen/MAloofs for making our new ownership pay this money
