I've been thinking about the Kings situation over and over and I'm sure you guys also see the Kings in a rebuilding sort of stage at the moment. In these upcoming years, our main focus will be to develop our young players (JT, Spencer, Donte, Sheldon, Douby) They will have to step up and prove themselves and the first step is opportunity. Therefore, I made this thread to ask for your guys' opinions on who needs to leave this team to help the rebuilding process. Our main focus is obviously not winning a championship at the moment so I really see no use in us trying to compete for anything. That will only hurt our future. Choose one person who you think needs to go first (disregard any contract information)

My vote: Mikki Moore-We're packed at the PF position full of youth who need to prove themselves and I see no purpose for him.

You cannot disregard contract information, as it could be a key reason for trading someone.

You do realize, for example, that we have a partial-season buyout clause for Mikki Moore as part of the contract we initially signed with him?

Well, I was speaking theoretically. I just wanted to know what you guys thought on the subject. Not necessarily that it could happen, but base it on the actual player. Get what I'm saying?

Yep. Kenny is the invisible man and his contract will be a nice little bonus coming off the books. SAR, on the other hand, still wants to try and come back - and it just doesn't seem like we need that distraction.

Of course SAR and KT could go without hurting us at all. But to answer your original question who NEEDS to go. Right now I don't think we are in a dire NEED to subtract anybody. We got rid of the 2 that needed to go with Bibby and Artest. They were the 2 hindering us from rebuilding with youth. Brad and Mikki aren't killing that growth like some feel. Now it all could change by mid season and definatly will change by next season but right now we are set for a growing season.

i actually voted john salmons.. and heres why

KT can stay, I think he is horrible but he isnt playing so he's fine by me .. plus losing his contract will be nice . i dont want to trade him for longer contracts.

SAR IMO is done, I just dont see him playing for us anymore ... I dont think this come back will work so I put him in the KT boat, he is here .. he isnt playing and losing his contract will be nice aswell so he doesnt hurt us right now.

Mikki Moore, who is a lifetime bencher wont have as big of a problem getting a reduced roll as salmons will, mikki is making the smallest amount of money out of all these players so getting him mad or w/e wont matter much .. he is a player you can buy out were any of the others will cost more dough ..

Thats why I choose salmons, I think his spot belongs to cisco, now reggie hasnt said that john will be the new starting SF but I think most of us are assuming that and John just doesnt deserve it. I cant get over how much he dissapeard when he didnt start, I hated his whining and Garcia brought it every night .. i know some want to see what john can do starting full time but i have no love for a player like that ..

no one wants thomas or reef and neither on plays so i dont care if they stay... my only problem with trading moore is that we would take back a contract that is longer than his. same goes for brad.... as much as i would love to see thompson, hawes, garcia and greene get more minutes i dont think i would like what we would get in return. unless the kincks would be cool with trading marbury for brad and salmons...

So the question is: Who hurts the growth of our younger players?

If KT or SAR step foot onto the court next year for any period of time, it would be them. I think both Spencer and Jason will get good amount of time on the court (together and separately) next year, and both Mikki and Brad will be a good help to both those young guys.

I think a big thing next year will be how selflessness the players can be. I think if we have any player that is selfish in the game, it will result in others acting like that they need to hold onto the ball. That definitely won’t help the young guys out or our future.

So my vote goes for John. I don’t think he knows how to play without the ball and him acting like he deserved the starting spot over his teammate was insulting to the team.

Kenny and Shareef, easily.

You know, I'd really like to see SAR revive his career, but just not on this team. JT & Shelden both need minutes; JT to get his career going, Shelden to stop his career from ending.

And Kenny, Kenny, Kenny: how we hate thee. For $8 mill, you think he could at least wave a towel and cheer on his teammates. After all, we Kings fans pay to do just that.

It's going to be a great day when these two are elsewhere.

Amen to MassachusettsKingsFan

I voted for Salmons with the same reason as MassachusettsKingsFan.

I'd rather see Garcia start, and Greene coming off the bench as alternate at SF position. These guys have more potential than Salmons, therefore needs more playing time as early as possible in this early phase of rebuilding.

I think Salmons is way overpayed for his talent. It's a big waste of money.

I disagree. Garcia's style seems best suited as a 6th man, sparkplug type off the bench at the 2 and 3. Greene could be groomed to be the eventual starter, but at this point he's a huge unknown. It's way to early to tell.

That's my problem with this poll in general too. We don't know who needs to go yet. If Greene looks lost out there, then there's no reason to ditch Salmons yet (and I fail to see the logic behind trading him since he only played well as a starter--he probably WILL be the starter, thus will probably play well). On the other hand, if Spencer shows well during Brad's 5-game suspension, but loses his minutes when Brad returns, then it's time to ship out Brad (or maybe Reggie, in that case, if he's not getting the memo).

Edit, and I'd like to add, of course, that the two most likely names of who NEEDS to go are, in fact, missing from options on this poll.

I'm having a hard time trying to figure out why so many people want to get rid of Salmons. When he started, he played very well, and is at the moment probably the best defensive player on the team. Salmons may not be a star, but he's a solid player, and until he proves that his style of play doesn't fit with this team, I'm fine with him being here.

Its obvious that the two players that are just taking up space are KT and SAR. Not much that can be done about either of them at the moment, unless SAR retires with a medical. This is probably Moore's last year here and the handwriting is on the wall for Miller.

Just for the record I don't believe Douby or Sheldon are in the long term plans, or at least should be in the long term plans; so I don't really care about developing them. Bobby Brown, JT, Hawes, Donte are guys you should be worrying about developing.

Francisco and Kevin are already developing, so they are a notch above.

Players that I see as being gone before this rebuild is done is Sheldon unless he steps up as a strong back up, Kenny, Sar, Douby, Miller.

Those people will be gone before this rebuild is done aka 2010 and on. BJax will have retired by then as well.

I agree that Greene could be groomed to be the eventual starter. But for the meantime that we don't have enough talents, I'll give the #3 starting spot to Garcia who has shown intensity of play whether coming off the bench or starting.

I also think Garcia's talent in the NBA ( just like Salmon's ) is at best coming off the bench and not as a starter.

I thought I was the only one who noticed this on Salmons. He is a good player worthy of playing in the NBA ( at the most as a 6th man ), but his style of play - which is ENDLESS DRIBBLE, DRIBBLE, DRIBBLE WITHOUT A PURPOSE ( COZ YOU CAN TELL NOTHING MUCH HAPPENS ) is an eyesore. Garcia sometimes does the same thing.

I said Brad but I am not sure now. I would like to see him gone due to contract.

I really just want to see our younger players developed (Kevin Martin, Cisco, Greene, JT and Hawes). Anyone that gets in the way of that due to being a cancer or demanding playing time then I really don't care about having them here.
