Well, that's that. $4 million a year is quite a deal for a guy who has only played in 11 games in his career:

Sources: Pistons, forward Johnson agree to 3-year deal

Restricted free-agent forward Amir Johnson has agreed to re-sign with the Detroit Pistons for an estimated $12 million over three years, NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com on Thursday.

The Pistons have now realized their top two offseason priorities by retaining the promising young Johnson and keeping 2004 NBA Finals MVP Chauncey Billups.

The Pistons have hardly used Johnson since taking him with the 56th pick in the 2005 NBA draft. In two seasons with Detroit, Johnson has played in just 11 games.

He posted a career-high 20 points on 10-for-14 shooting in this season's finale against the Celtics.

They must really see something in this guy. Granted, he had a couple of good games towards the end of last season, but that's a lot of money for someone who probably could have been had for the minimum seeing as how he's had -0- playing time his entire 2 year career.

easy to say when your looking from outside in. dumars obviously sees something in him that we don't. they do get to see him behind the scenes in practice etc.

Odd thing wiht Johnson is there actually seemed to be a number of teams who were prepared to offer sigificant money. But of a bidding war even on the kid wiht 11 games under his belt. I wouldn't have minded seeing him show up in Kingsland myself, but once you started hearing the numbers being tossed around...well, he had better work out. And in the Pistons case, at $4mil a year they had better play him. Starting center next year?

Why not throw 3-year MLE in this young man instead of that 32-year old. Team itself will be as bad but at least you may have promise for something good.

Heh -- instantly had the exact same thought when I noticed somebody had responded to this old thread this morning.

FYI, the Spurs offered him more money than we did.
