Pick Your Trade: Nocioni for Expirings

I know there has been a million of these, but I thought I'd put up some information to make it more fun for discussion.

It seems to me that most who objected to trading Nocioni have been swayed to trade him mostly due to his bad play and the fantastic play/potential of Donte and the great/gritty play of Casspi.

So trading Nocioni seems to be something which has to occur as soon as possible to relieve the logjam which is going to kill our young player's minutes when Martin gets back.

In addition, as well as Beno has been playing, I still would be in favor of trading him for expiring contracts and letting Sergio take 2nd PG duties. For those of you against this move, I really do understand your perspective, and I can't disagree that Beno has been very good this year so far.
But for the purposes of this particular thread, I just wanted to mention that Beno is available to help make deals work.

So we have Nocioni who we have to trade and we have Beno who we might want to consider trading. (But we don't have to trade Beno.)

The theory bandied around has always been that Nocioni would be a great player coming off the bench for a championship-aspiring team. So what I've done is list the top 4 teams in each Conference along with the Forwards they have on their team as well as the expiring contracts they have on their team.

So the goal will be to look at these top 8 teams, determine who might actually need help at the Forward spot, and who might have the expiring pieces necessary to work out a deal.

I'll probably list some of my ideal trading scenarios after I've listed all the information. Remember, you can also include Beno if you want to really look to increase our expiring contracts to make a large push in the 2010 free-agency.

But the primary purpose of this thread is to move Nocioni to a team for expirings in a deal which makes sense for both teams.

For trading purposes these two players make:

Nocioni - 7.5m
Beno - 6m

Let's see what kind of deals we can come up with.

Ok, after Nocioni's 1 for 5 night with 4 personal fouls and 2 turn-overs in 10 minutes, I figure it's a good time to discuss moving Nocioni.

At this point I'd rather have either Donte, Casspi, or Brockman out on the floor instead of Noc. So since we probably are not going to get the Big Man we need to really start to compete, let's see what sort of ideal scenarios are available to trade him for expirings to give us more cap room to put the final pieces in place for this team.

Boston Celtics
I know that at the trade deadline last year there were some rumors that Boston might be interested. Then earlier this season the rumors flared up and Boston supposed denied having interest.

With that said, it looks clear to me that Boston would be a very good trading partner.

Pierce is really a 3 and not a 3/4.
Garnett, Glen Davis, & Sheldon Williams are either 4s or 4/5s not 3/4s.

So the only player who is really like a 3/4 is Scalabrine and Nocioni is a far better player.

So a Possible Trade might be:

Nocioni for Scalabrine/Tony Allen/J.R. Giddens

We can waive all three of these guys if necessary and Boston can pick them back up later if they want to. It's just about getting those expirings.

And if Boston did end up picking any of these guys, it would be a definate upgrade for them.

Cleveland Cavaliers

This is another team which looks as if they could be a good trading partner.
They've got three large expirings in LBJ, Shaq, and Ilgauskas.

LBJ isn't really an expiring as the Cavaliers will offer him the max to stay. They may be hoping that the expirings of Shaq and Ilgauskas will allow them to bring over another elite player such as Wade. Though I think that if LBJ and Wade were to team up, they'd do it in Miami rather than Cleveland.

So I'm looking at this as the LBJ & Shaq expirings which amount to 37 million will be used for free agents in the offseason, while the Ilgauskas expiring will be used to make their team better this season.

So the easy trade to me seems to be:

Ilgauskas for Nocioni & Beno

Ilgauskas and Shaq can't play together on the floor so I see Ilgauskas to be extremely expendable.

At the moment Daniel Gibson is Mo Williams backup, and he's not very good at all. Beno would be a huge upgrade.
In addition, Nocioni would be a good fit on the team as they don't have any 3/4s outside of LeBron, and Nocioni would work very well in spreading the floor to allow LeBron to operate.

This makes the Cavs a lot better this year in my opinion. The question would then be whether or not they think that the 37 million in expirings will get them what they want in free-agency to sign LBJ and another major free-agent.

L.A. Lakers

In looking at the other teams, the only other team which I can see a move being made would unfortunately be with the Lakers.
I actually have no desire to make a trade with them, especially one which would make them better, but since it's all about helping our own team, I'm going to toss this out here, as trading Nocioni for expirings helps our team.

This trade is a no-brainer.

Nocioni for Adam Morrison & D.J. Mbenga.

Nocioni is a huge upgrade over Adam Morrison. It would also give us a 3rd big in Mbenga who is a full-sized 7 footer. He's not very good, but at least he'd be someone we can throw out there at times, and if he seems to click with this roster, we can perhaps offer him a small contract when he expires.

I don't like it as it clearly makes the Lakers better, but it helps the Kings and that is all that matters, so I'd do it if it were my only option.

Well, that's all I got. Anyone see any other potential trading opportunities to turn Nocioni into an expiring contract with the eight teams listed here?

I can't really see any other team wanting Nocioni for expirings, but if you think there is one out there let's hear it.

Boston maybe does it, especially with Pierce being hurt and all, they might be inclined to come back to the Kings for Nocioni.

Cavs I can't see. Big Z is their backup center and he can still play ball.

And no trading with the Fakers. :p

They way Nocioni has been playing this season, I'd trade him for a bag of peanuts. Honestly, if any team wants him at this point, DO IT!!!!!!!!

Let's see what kind of deals we can come up with.[FONT=&quot]

The three most plausible deals I could come up with:

Sacramento:
->Nocioni + May
<-Gadzuric + J. Alexander + Ike Diogu (Would be Waived) + New Orleans 2010 1st (Unprotected)

New Orleans:
->Posey + Songaila + Ike Diogu + New Orleans 2010 1st (Unprotected)
<-Nocioni + May

Milwaukee:
->Gadzuric + J. Alexander
<-Posey + Songaila

New Orleans desperatly needs to save money, and Milwaukee makes a push for the playoffs.

Sacramento:
->Nocioni
<-JR Smith + M. Allen

Denver:
->JR Smith + M. Allen
<-Nocioni

This is only if Denver really cannot stand JR any longer.

Sacramento:
->Nocioni
<-Carroll+ S.Williams

Dallas:
->Carroll+ S.Williams
<-Nocioni

Unfortunately this is probably where Nocioni's value is right now. At least Carroll is also a declining contract.
