Don't Make Me Use The Bat
Watching Duncan + Nash dual in this one only serves to douoble underscore everything that Dirk was not against the Warriors.


Tough break for Nash getting that cut though -- basically the same thing as him fouling out in the last minute and its really hurt thier offense.
 
nash looked like a hockey player. did anyone see parker's lump on his forehead when he was being interviewed at the end of the game?? nash by far got the worst of it, but parker did get a nice souvenir of his own. the amount of blood shed was ridiculous. i couldn't believe that! insanity! his jersey was covered in blood. yucko!

spurs probably would have won the game with nash in there. the spurs didn't have their A game, but still found a way to win. they missed free throws ( well manu and finely missing late is more shocking then duncan missing) and turned over the ball like no one's business.

either way, it was an extremely entertaining game. this is going to be a good series!

The Suns should invest in a good cut man. De La Hoya's certainly put his work in last night.
 
Steve Nash is right up there with Jake LaMotta and Jim Otto. Nash sustains a 20-stitch gash on his nose, is bleeding like a stuck hog, and he calmly walks over to Tony Parker who is laying in a pre-natal position on the floor with a bump on his forehead. Who was the Mensch?
 
Suns made the adjustment tonight of inserting Kurt Thomas to take the pressure off of Amare of guarding Duncan (and potentially getting saddled with foul trouble), and it paid off with a win. Thomas didn't slow down Duncan (who scored 29), but he hit 6 of his 7 shots, and allowed Amare to only pick up 3 fouls for the entire game.

Amare had a terrible 1st quarter, going 0-4 from the floor, but he hit 10 of his final 12 shots and finished with 27 points. Marion typically had a poor night (as he regularly seems to do against the Spurs from my memory), but Raja Bell stepped up on offense as well.

Michael Finley also remembered that it is 2007. Good win for the Suns.

thomas didn't do anything special but push and grab. refs called the game lite, even but lite. still, duncan got his with 12-20 shots.

i think everybody else on the spurs blew it with the stupid turnovers, crying to the refs instead of playing, and not matching the suns energy.

finley fell during practice, almost didn't play. and parker got tackled in a bad way. not an excuse, it's no boys allowed. rub some dirt on it and get back to work.

Two things:

1) Kurt Thomas's ability to pay Duncan one on one fixed much of what was broken with the Suns defense -- they got killed in game one as their defense collapsed on him and guys were open all over the floor. This time they were able to stay wiht those guys because of Thomas, and so while tim got his numbers, he didn't make his teammates better the way he did int he first game

2) Steve Nash just broke down the Spurs defense time and time again, and the Spurs determination to make him a scorer did nto seem to work this time. You look at Amare's game, and as it often is, Amare didn't have to do much of anything. Nash created shot after shot for him and others, and the Spurs were caught shorthanded and constantly a step behind because their bigs were having to step over to stop Nash on every penetration. Left guys open all over the place, and Steve is going to find those guys.

Amaré Stoudemire called the San Antonio Spurs a dirty team Thursday and directed most of his words toward defensive specialist Bruce Bowen and sixth man Manu Ginobili.

Bowen's play irritated him most. In the third quarter, Stoudemire felt a kick to his left Achilles tendon as he leaped inside. He came down awkwardly and said his foot was sore the rest of the night. He got medical treatment before practice.

If this type of complaint was heard once or twice, no big deal. But you really have to wonder just how many times Bowen is going to get away with stuff. Is it all just false accusations? Or at some point do the mere numbers of players who have had some kind of problem with Bowen start to tell a different story?

Is Bowen just doing his job or he is he - as I personally have felt for a long time - continually pushing the envelope to see just how much he can get away with? Seeing Bruce Bowen on the court against one of our players scares me - and not because he's an excellent defender. It scares me because he has seemed to be closely involved in a LOT of cases where premiere players are injured. And it always seems to be an important player, not someone from the bench...
 
It's not easy for me to view videos but I took the time to allow that one to load. Unless Bowen has a terrible condition that forces his right foot and leg to involuntarily move forward under players, that sure looked intentional to me. And I especially love the way his foot moves forward as he's leaning backwards...

Agreed. I'd be interested to here him defend his movements as "basketball movements", as Kobe had to do with his off arm smacking guys in the face when his shot got blocked from behind. If Bowen were going to jump up to try to contest that shot from behind, he wouldn't gather to jump in that manner. That's basically just a chicken**** play from a guy apparently willing to do anything, clean or dirty, to get an edge.

And it's a bit of a shame, imho, because technically Bowen is one of the, if not the very, best perimeter defenders at moving his feet (and not using his hands) while maintaining extremely close proximity to perimeter players. Bug his reputation as a cheap-shot artist is also well known --- Ray Allen, Micheal Finley, Wally, Amare, etc. I wonder if Finley mainly tolerates playing with that guy because he knows Bowen will only use his dirty little tricks on non-Spur players.

Edit: Greg Anthony said Amare doesn't have a point about the Spurs being dirty. I'd really like for the other guy in the studio to ask Anthony to explain Bowen's movements on that specific play where Amare dunked the ball with Bowen behind him.

spurs made a run to go into the half with a small lead. nash with 0 points after 2 qtrs. next half should be very interesting.
 
And Bowen does it again - even Jon Barry commented on the cheap shot Bowen made to the groinal area of Steve Nash.
 
I normally do not comment about the officiating but I do think there might just be a little bit of "home team" favoritism going on...

Of course, we all know Tim Duncan has never committed a foul in his life.

Nash should NOT have been called for that blocking foul just now. But, it was the mythical magical Timmy Duncan.
