it was pretty obvious now that petrie was looking shooting guard all the way with the 23rd pick... petrie selected a player that fits right into Adelmans system, so Adeleman's job is definitely safe... i think it is safe to assume that the petrie will be looking to upgrade the power forward/center position through trade or MLE... there have been a few names floating around as possibly available, who should the kings pick up???

Petrie's next move for a big man?

I would definetly hope so. Thats obviously our biggest need at the moment...though I don't have any ideas as to who it could be...I'm sure others will...

Still hard to say at this point. I think some players that may be available would be Stromile Swift and Nene.

Well,
All have pretty big warts. But given the list:
Stro - athletic shot blocker. The Grizz don't like his rebounding.
Kwame - heart problems (doesn't have one)
Walker - please don't let it be him!
Rahim - pretty much a KT clone
Magliore - I would take him, but he's going to cost a bundle and he's got injury issues.
Boozer - I think his contract is the killer issue.
Wright - maybe if some other options don't work. Doesn't really excite me like Stro or Magliore does.

Sharif abdur rahim might be an interesting pick up for the kings... he probably could be had for a sign and trade for kenny thomas or cuttino mobley (for about 7 mil per year contract)... before he was traded from the grizzlies, he had his best years with mike bibby as his point guard... he averaged over 20pts and 9-10 rebounds per game and over a blocked shot per game... and he was the main focus of their offense, so defenses keyed in on him... now if bibby still has his number, he can help convince him to come to the kings... i think this is the type of player that petrie and adelman loves... a skilled big man who can score, rebound some and pass...

i know he's not the best defender or tough as nails, but he would come relatively cheap (for mobley or thomas) and be an upgrade to the undersized KT...

Hilarious...totally didn't see that coming...before I read the part in the parenthesis I was thinking "I didn't know that Kwame had a heart problem I thought that was Eddy Curry" LOL

The only guy on that list that I would be excited to see would be Magliore but like you said he would have a high price tag and definetly has injury issues...I wouldn't mind Booz but like you said that contract is a killer

I, for one, am not even going to hazard a guess as to what Petrie has in mind. I'm just going to sit back and watch the master at work...

Didn't I read yesterday that Theo Ratliff might get released from his contract? And he was one of the community award candidates meaning he would fit in with the overall Kings personality. And a top shot blocker and rebounder!!!! I'd like him....

Not sure about that one. There must have been a reason for him to get in the doghouse in Portland. The second half of the season, he hardly saw any PT and it wasn't due to injuries. After Pryzbilla had a few decent games (two against our defensive wizard, Brad Miller), He effectively sealed Theo's fate.

I want Magloire in Sacramento and I've been wanting him here for a few years. Not to overrate the guy, but he would make a huge difference in our rebounding (on both ends) our toughness and our shotblocking. If the Hornets were thinking about giving him up for the Raptors two first round picks (7th and 16th overall) then we should be able to put together an offer that'd actually include a proven NBA player or two, plus maybe an expiring contract such as Greg Ostertag.

a stop gap solution may be PJ Brown from New Orleans... he is as tough as they come and gives an instant defensive presence, but he is already 35 years old... he has maybe 2 years left at best and his best years are behind him, but if the kings want someone to plug the hole at Power forward for a year or two, pj brown can be had for pretty cheap... but he does not give us a long term solution...

also theo ratliff would be interesting but, again he has injury problems, something the kings know about all to well...

I know hes a restricted free agent and would cost alot but if we got Samuel Dalembert from Philadelphia I would be happy.
Impossible.

The Kings are already over the cap. The only thing they could offer him is the MLE.

In addition to the guys you've mentioned, I think Zach Randolph is available though he's got an even bigger contract than Boozer and isn't a very good defender. The Clippers might be dumb enough to trade Elton Brand, though the recent Chris Wilcox arrest would make them more hesitant to do so. You've got to figure Atlanta is trading one of their forwards to make room for Marvin Williams. Probably Al Harrington or Josh Childress. Childress wouldn't help us much, but Harrington could. Adonal Foyle is probably available if we'd even want him. Dan Gadzuric and Zaza Pachulia from the Bucks seem more expendable now. Both are restriced free agents. Both are also centers, but we've played Brad at PF before.

Nene, Kwame or Swift. The most logical one may be to do a sign and trade with Mobley to Denver for Nene since Denver is in serious need for a SG and it's not like they won't part with Nene.

Actually, I heard that Denver was pulling back from making Nene available due to constant injuries to K-Mart and Camby. I wonder if Juwon Howard in Houston may be available for us as a short term fix. He always seems to have great games against us and played CWebb real hard. I know he was instrumental in Houston's playoff drive last year and that you could legitimately argue that his loss cost them a good chance to advance but at his age and with Houston's draft he may be low on the horizon for being on the move again.

Nene can't happen. Or at least it will have to be a very creative deal. He is due approx 2.3MM next year with a team option at the end of the '06 season, which will surely be picked up. Mobley opted out of a final year that would have paid him in the neighborhood of 6MM. Because he opted out, we can only assume that he is going to want a raise, making his sign and trade value in the neighborhood (just a guess) of 7.5-8MM. Somewhere, Denver would have to come up with 5MM+ worth of salary in order to make the deal work, because they're right at the cap too with a team salary of about 48MM. I think under the new CBA, the cap is going to be around 51MM next season. Just enough for them to sign their rookies.

All this trade talk sounds nice until you look at the math. Many of the deals are nearly impossible.

Howard has a viral infection in his heart and may not be back next season.

Howard's money is a lot closer to what would work, in the neigborhood of 6MM, but he is yet another small-ish PF (6'8"). We already have enough of those guys, IMO.

What ever happened to keon klark? I know we traded to him to utah and then he got hurt or something and I think he was traded again. Not that I want him back, but was just wondering what happened to him.

When teams call him up (Clevand was the last) he just doesn't show up.

Both are perimeter shooters that have decent rebounding numbers. Both are so-so defenders. Both are really small forwards with the foot speed of a PF. If the Kings want to get better defensively, than neither of these guys are the answer. They certainly need someone tougher than Rahim.

i dont think any of these guys is a big improvement over KT and Skinner (and maybe Tag if he gets in shape). One potential rebounder is Haslem from Miami, but he is an unrestricted FA. Jeff Foster is a tremendus rebounder who might be available for the right price.

As far as I know Bibby and SAR didn't like eachother.

Kwame Brown

kwame brown just got a qualifying offer from washington, making him a restriced free agent... meaning washington can match any offers... so for the kings to land kwame brown, they would have to work a sign and trade... and with kwame's qualifying offer being 6.9 million (and a starting point for a new contract) and kenny thomas making 6.19 million, this sign and trade would work straight up for both teams under the CBA...

the kings would get a young and talented but immature player in the 6'11" 260lbs. Kwame Brown and Washington would get a legitamte double-double threat in the eastern conference in Thomas... i think if the kings had to take a chance on any player (meaning a player that hasn't reached their potential yet) kwame would be a very good risk to take for the undersized kings....
