Im sure if Rick was fired or Petrie resigned we would of heard about it and espnnews radio would be reporting it also. They do sportscenter every 20 minutes and I havent heard anything.

Story on the News10 website, with video! I'm watching it right now and so far it's looking like a "State of the Team" conference. Started off by saying he wanted to do this earlier but wasn’t able to... etc.

Will update if anything significant is said.

I'm listening to it right now and quite frankly I need to go get a cup of coffee as Petrie is putting me to sleep.

That's it???!!! Woooooow!! What a waste of time hangin on the edge of my seat waiting to hear the "all-important" news conference.

Now let's recap......

1) We found out the core of our team. ( we knew that!)

2) Mobley and Songalia is going to seek other options (knew that)

3) The sky is blue

4) Birds can fly

Gee thanks for the headsup!!

Actually, on the News10 recap there was a piece of information that confused me. It stated that the Kings could match offers for Songalia and Evans.

I was under the impression that they could resign Songalia up to the mid-level, but I didn't think they had the right to match an offer. On Evans, I wasn't sure about the claims on a one year player other than they could make him restricted by giving a qualifying offer. I am not sure what those "restricted" rights for him amount to.

I suspect it is a "typo" in the articles detail portion.

Interesting note:

"Whenever you trade your best player you have to make sure you get better, or at least stay the same"

Either Chris wasn't our best player, or GP thinks we are just as good or are better off because of the flexibility.

I'm sure this is going to freak some people out. But it's classic GP, he's not going to say anything controversial.

No, GP said that they are restricted. That if the Kings make qualifying offers by the end of the month, they can match any offers made.

He looked pretty good in the video, I guess he's doing well with his "new plumbing" as he put it. We need defense and better rebounding???? Wow thanks for that news flash.
They're keeping the "core" so that means no major shake ups in the roster. Guess we're not getting KG after all but don't tell VF (shush)

we can still get KG Loopy, dont worry. but we will only have four players to run the court.

New Lineup: the "core" + KG.

whozit,

I think you have them backwards (or perhaps the article does!).

Songaila has early bird rights, something he obtained by signing a one year deal last season with the Kings. This right gives him a pay raise cap up to the NBA average salary (or 175% of his current salary, whichever is greater).

I believe Evans is unrestricted, so the Kings would have to use some or all of the MLE to avoid luxury tax implications...

lol but with our injuries our team will consist of no-one:eek: Guess RA,GP and the maloofs will be playing then.

Evans is restricted as well if the Kings make him the qualifying offer. We will then have to use a portion of our MLE to sign him unless he takes a minimum contract.

As said by others, it was typical Petrie. Nothing major was said but I did jot down some things of interest for those who won’t or can’t watch the video.

Can’t say anything about Free Agency, doesn’t want to get fined. Joked with reporters about them pony up a million bucks to pay fine.

Said Mobley has publicly said he will opt out though hasn’t said it to Petrie officially, expects Mobley to do so.

Darius has his own option. Expects him to opt out. Maurice is a unrestricted FA
Have the ability to make Darius and Maurice restricted FA’s by making qualifying offers, and then can match any offers “up to your abilities”.
Will make decisions on Maurice and Darius “sometime later on in the Month”.

Ideal thing is to draft someone who can play right away.

Doesn’t expect draft to bring a defensive stopper right away. Offense is team concept, Defense should be the same. But players need to make commitment to guard their own man for defense to be succesful.

Counciled the Maloofs and Adelman on the whole coaching issue. Everything that has been said is accurate, won’t say anymore. Both sides are moving forward. *Sounds like he’s stuck in the middle.* Has been working with Rick since he's been back.

Philosophy is to "Leave no stone unturned". Brought in about 35 players and has the done the traditional NBA scouting.

Can’t comment on trades, but can’t say no one is un-tradeable.

Has information on 20+ euro players. Some will pull out.

Will need to Adjust the offense to new team.

The qualifying offer makes them "restricted" free agents - not "unrestricted".

How can anyone not trust this guy? I enjoyed watching that almost fell asleep because he is so soft spoken...

HEY maybe that’s how he pulls off these great trades… Picture this - the GM on the other side of the phone falls to sleep while discussing players, then GP works his magic and starts sending subliminal messages through the phone “TRADE KG FOR TAG, TRADE KG FOR TAG” and next thing you know WE HAVE KG! HAHA

I can see it now, Slamson throwing the alley oop for Yoda Carill, while Gavin Maloof is boxing out Shaq in the NBA Finals next year. Bobby Jackson will be healthy though, because he always is, so there would be an original King on the floor.

So, what he really said was that we're going to go with the "core"players and hope to add by the draft and retain who we can afford to...but no one was untouchable meaning he's open to trading anyone. Hmmmmm, sounds like Clinton-speake to me!

''We must get better defensively and it starts with our core guys (Brad, Mike, and Peja.'' -Geoff Petrie

Good luck on that..

Both Brad and Mike can play at least average D. Problem is they are not pushed to do so now. Right now its Offense is our Defense and honestly that is not going to work.
