Petrie esque trade scenario

Trade ID #4891754

Brad Miller
Beno
Kenny Thomas

For

Baron Davis
Zach Randolph

Sacramento Does this because real FAs never are interested in the 916 anyways. And LA does it for the exact opposite reason. I think a pick might be in order for the kings a s well.

I fail to see how this is "Petrie esque".

Not just that but I see absolutly no reason for either team to do these trades.

this trade doesn't make any sense. Why in the world would the clips do this deal? even Isiah Thomas wouldn't make this trade... Come on now

the clips need 2010....does it make sense now? the Baron to LAC experiment is over, imho. He needs a team that doesn't need him. I.E. Sacramento. The clips need this to happen because if they don't, it will be a decade before they see anything resembling a semi-final appearance.

A trade for Randolph didn't make sense when he was in New York and probably a KT/SAR offer would have been enough, and it doesn't make sense now.

But Baron Davis is a player I thought about. He has some problems with the coach, and Dunleavy offered Udrih the same contract than the Kings in the offseason. They need some help at the wings, so what about Baron Davis for Beno+Salmons?

Clippers roster:
Camby/Kaman/Jordan
Randolph/P.Davis/Skinner
Thornton/R.Davis/Novak
Salmons/Gordon/Collins
Udrih/Taylor/Hart

Kings roster:
Miller/Moore/Williams
Hawes/Thompson/Thomas
Garcia/Greene/ (Ewing Jr?)
Martin/Douby
Davis/Jackson/Brown

Ok, first of all, a trade has to have some logic to it to make sense. The Clippers spent the off season retooling the team. Obviously it didn't go the way they wanted with the loss of Brand. They made the trade to aquire Randolph in order to fill the void left by Brand. These were considered steps by the Clippers. The team hasn't even been together long enough, for them to know if its going to work or not.

Having said that, why would they then trade the two biggest pieces on their team, two pieces they went out of their way to aquire, for players, that are for the most part inferior to what they have.

Now, from the Kings prospective. Regardless of whether or not its an upgrade. It goes against everything that the organization has been trying to do this year. The Kings at present, are trying to get younger, and at the same time shed vetreans salaries to clear cap space in 2010, if not possibly sooner. As much as I like Davis as a point guard, he has a contract that runs through 2013. Were talking about a player that has a history of injuries and not playing all 82 games.

Logicaly, I don't see where either team would interested in doing this deal.

LMAO, cmon dude get real!!! this won't happen~! those are the clippers best players for our junk. unless all of them are expiring and picks included i don't understand from teh clippers standpoint why they would do this.

Its interesting how our opinions differ. I consider it we are giving away our best players(contract wise) for their worst players(in every sense of the word).

See, now that you explain it so succintly, I can clearly see the light. Oh, you may want to switch up the adjectives, "best and "worst", unless, of course, you intended to leave that as an exercise for the reader.

The only change I can see the Clippers making is by getting rid of their coach.

But I’d hate to have him here. No disrespect to him as a player but his contract is way too long (and too much), he’s old, and he’s injury prone – no thanks. Never. I don’t care how bad Beno is playing right now, Baron isn’t the answer.

Try telling the Clippers that...lol. I know he isn't the answer. But, you guys have to admitt, real talent doesn't isolate Sacramento as a 1st choice destination, Sacramento is like the backup plan. Even for 2nd teir NBA Talent being offered MAX by sacramento doesn't seal the deal, and that says alot about the complextion of the freemarket as it relates to the NBA.

this is an interesting trade and much more deserving of its own thread IMO. my initial reaction was that udrih's value had declined since the offseason so the clippers might be hesitant to do this but then i also think that baron's value is as low as ever, and salmons is a good value. udrih might play better on a better team. davis has much more value to us going forward either as a player or a trade asset. definitely worth looking at.

We have already discovered Davis, as talented a player as he can be, is not for us. While my trade proposal seemed earnest, it wasn't. i was offering it as satire for our inability to attract FreeAgents in the past and in the future.

This trade does less than nothing for me.

So this was satire? I'm sorry but you're really going to have to make those kinds of things clearer...

:o

Yea, im sorry for the intended confusion. I just hate the fact that the kings are being swept under the rug by every other NBA team(not counting Indiana). It's almost like we are fans of a ghost franchise, that only exists between NBA games. I am frusterated that the freemarket invades the NBA to the degree in which the game has become overly political. Gambling was a big part of the game in the early years of basketball, and today the stakes aren't money or anything purely tangible(evidence). they gamble for Power. Power is not redistributed in the Draft, and because of the freemarket, Power is definately not redistributed via Free agency. It just sucks when some teams like the lakers are playing the odds, while teams like Sacramento are playing at odds with the entire NBA.

I wish i could cite donoghy as a my source, but a judge wouldn't find him to be a credible witness, I probably shouldn't either

Looking back at our previous trade history under Petrie, I think this is possible if the Clippers would want it. Petrie has the propencity of getting the unwanted.

The high-risk for re-injury Abdur-Rahim and the ineffective Kenny Thomas got a long contract with us, didn't they?

SAR wasn't considered that high a risk, and if you remember, KT averaged 13 and 10 the year before he got traded here....and 14 and 8 after he arrived. He wasn't necessarily unwanted, just expendable.
