I saw the news from taiwan's media. Peja and vlade are going to participate a basketball camp and some promotion in Shin Chu and Kaoshiung, two big cities in taiwan. For those of you who dont speak mandarin, the news basically says fans (taiwan's been flooded with kings fans since there are lots of lakers haters) in taiwan have seen too much american nba stars. Now they want to see something different - European stars with solid skills! Peja and Vlade are going to demonstrate some individual bball skills and 3-on-3 tactics for the camp. Right now the authority in taiwan is still arranging a detailed schedule for peja and vlade with kings scout Jack Mai.

Vlade Divac is arguably the best possible goodwill ambassador for the NBA. I'm glad to hear he's going with Peja. This is just another indication to me that Vlade is seriously considering returning to the Kings organization after his active playing career is over.

I think sending two players who haven't relied on flash over substance is a good thing all the way around. Much better to show players grounded in the fundamentals IMHO than players who simply know how to dunk and little else.

:D

Very interesting.

I thought that Pedja has a National Team training camp to prepare for EC which is in September.

He couldn't do both?
very good question.

well, coach did not let him do it last year but then again we were 11th at the olympics.

This year - it is in Belgrade. It is at home. Even winning Gold is not enough. We are expectet to dominate. We have many good players but Pedja is Pedja. Irreplaceable. The Zone killed us at the Olympics. Nobody will dare to play zone with Pedja there. It is a college three - like a lay up. Pedja is half of the offense. It is either Pedja of the pick ot Bodiroga of the dribble.
In other words - he has some leverage here because we just need to win. I would find it hard to believe that Pedja would miss this one. Playing a big tournament at home is rarity. Such chances do not come around many times. People there love him and kinda expect him to be there.
But - then again - there are many uncertainities with Pedja this summer. He need to have a good PO - for Kings first and then for himself also. It is a contract year either way.
The summer will be long and painfull ;)

Yeah, I hope Peja has a very busy basketball summer. Much better than last summer's vacation from basketball.
Provo... At BYU? Did we just steal your coach? and if so did we get a decent guy? Fresno State Instructor/Fan ;)

Heh, yeah you just did. I haven't really watched BYU play too much this year (I like the NBA better than college ball), but my first impression would be that I would guess he is not that great of a coach, but that just judging from this year. However, my friend who is more of an avid BYU fan says that he is an awesome coach who turned the program around a couple years back and recently drafted Rafael Arujo who was awesome for us. So it looks like you got a great coach.

Thanks, hanchiho.
Don't be too excited right now. Peja's agent said Peja would visit Taiwan last summer, but nothing happened. I will just wait and see. Hope they both will come...:)

Pedja was in that area last year. I am not sure in which country but I am sure - he was there

you mean china? he was there for preseason game with houston rockets
No, I mean over the summer. He had some kind of camper somwhere in that region. One of the reasons (minor) for skipping olympics

He sat out one season and skipped the Olympics. That was quite a sacrifice. But, no way he is sitting out when his homeland is the host of the tournament. Nor would I expect him to.

Good point. Interestingly enough, the first off-season that he "skipped" (last summer) he:

1. Started getting stupid ideas, e.g. "Trade me"
2. Came back to play his worst 3/4 of NBA basketball to date.

Clearly, he needs to be busy in the off season, and I mean basketball busy. ;)

he is going to play
I know he is going to play, I just wish he wouldn't. It would be nice to see him improve on his game, but as it has been pointed out, he's not been good at doing that in the past. There is nothing wrong with wishful thinking though.

Believe me he'll improve his game much more playing for the national team than staying in Sac.!!! They have really hard preps. and they are well known for that. I've read a few articles regarding S&M national tim preps. and from what I've read I must say that he'll only benefit from them.

Well, he hasn't picked up on any post presense from any of his time spent playing for S&M national team. Then again, he may just be incapable of it.

He will show up for training camp in top conditions physically. How much he will be able to work on individual skills - who knows. He will have an opportunity to work with world class coaches. Unfortunately, Pedja's post game is not required for Serbia's national team. There will not be too much focus on that

There's a good 1.5 - 2 months before training for the euro tournament begins. Why can't he work on his post game then? He definitely should--for himself, for the sake of his next contract, and especially for the Kings in 2005-06.

my dad's in taiwan, in the exact city actually.
my sister is going to be this summer.
but do they care that much about peja and vlade? no.
does fakie get to go? no.

speaking of which, last year michael jordan visited taiwan to promote his shoes, and fans went crazy over it, but he only showed up for like, 20 seconds for it. the fans got ticked off and sued nike.
i hope things like that doesn't happen to peja or vlade. i hope they get to enjoy the trip.
