I was going to come here and post an article about our interest in Millsap. I don't really understand why though, he is 32 years old....what use would he have here now? Perry needs to step in here and put these guys in their place. I thought we were done trying to patchwork a rebuild?
Makes zero sense to eat up cap space for a 32 year old player that won't be here when you get good, takes space at a position where we have young developing players, hurts your draft pick next year while not giving you a realistic playoff shot. Use the cap space to get more assets, this is repeating the same mistakes we made the last couple years. If we're rebuilding then rebuild, don't take shortcuts.

Surely to goodness the kings are not about to offer him the five-year Max are they? Cuz everything that I've seen reports it is a sign-and-trade. Locking up Paul Millsap for anything more than three years, to me, is a terrible move.
To be fair, I've doubted Vlade Divac before and he's proven me wrong almost every time. Outside of the unprotected first-round pick with the Sixers thing, even in that trade I think he truly believed he could get free agents to sign here but learned his lesson and didn't try that stuff again.

To make it abundantly clear I don't mind bringing you in a Paul Milsap but not for a long term deal.
If Vlade is considering bringing Paul Millsap then he must feel very confident about the young players the Kings have and the draft picks this year developing into the players he needs and confident that he can get either or both of Bogdan and Milos.
Part of the thinking could be that he does not feel the Kings could have tracked a free-agent like Paul Millsap without a sign-and-trade like this.
To be honest, I'm convinced that either Buddy, Skal, or the #5 will be an all-star. Add that to people who are proven winners like Bogdan and Milos, in addition to a former All-Star like Paul Millsap and that would give you a pretty good team.
I agree with others on this website and on Twitter that signing Millsap would be short cutting the long-term rebuild. However, it is not short cutting it if Vlade and Dave Joerger believe they have the young pieces they need and just need time for them to develop more than they need additional draft picks in later years.
Let me put it this way, if the kings are convinced that someone on the roster now or in this draft will be the Superstar they need to become a winning franchise why not chase a good free agent or two? The main purpose of the NBA draft is to get that super star to take you to the next level. If you already have that sign or trade for a solid player and begin winning to develop into a great team.

Because you don't risk assets (capspace, roster space, draft positioning next year, young player development PT) on a hunch that you have an all star or superstar. You go out and get complimentary pieces once you KNOW you have a superstar or all star on the roster. Even if our front office had a history of sound decision making and scouting (it doesn't) there's something to be said for being systematic, pragmatic, and conservative when you are a small town franchise with limited assets.

Milsap is a good Pro. Love to have him on the Kings on the 3 year deal. Third year a team option of course

I love Milsap... but he does nothing for our near future. This is also why I was upset that we kept Galloway/Tyreke in the NO deal... wish we could have traded them off to a contender for extra draft pieces... even 2nd round picks (If that's what was available?). Anything that could bolster our future.

Doubt we'd be getting draft picks for those guys. The lakers barely wanna give up their late first rounders for Paul George
No ones just giving those away and certainly not for marginal injury prone talents

I wouldn't sign Milsap, he is a win now veteran. He would have been great next to DMC, but no use now.
I would save the cap space and either take salary dumps for draft picks or use that money to try and sign a younger player with upside.

Well, we received a first for Marco Belli... and he's not a better player than Tyreke on an expiring contract. Randy Foye got traded for two 2nd rd picks... I have a feeling the FO wanted to keep Tyreke to possibly bring back nostalgia and lessen the DMC shock.

We need to develop the rooks & other young fellas this year. We still have our pick next year so it will comfort those growing pains later. Look at bad contracts for assets.
2018-2019 is where we should try to make a jump as we don't have a pick, the young fellas pro's and cons should be established.

We can't have 15 kids in our roster... At some point we also need to have some good players who can show the kids how it's done. Millsap is an all star, a true professional and if he's willing to come over (to me there's no chances anyway...) I would be happy to sign him. 3 years max deal. I know he won't help us getting to the playoffs, but I'm sure he would help developing our kids, especially Skal.

Um I think you have the desire or not in most cases. No one on our roster seems like a knucklehead.
I think that can be handled by the coaching staff just fine.

Giving himself a time limit of 2 years, was already a risky move - setting himself up for a major media crapstorm if the team is not in contention for the Playoffs by that time. But as long as the team is young and he is able to sell Vivek the improvement f the young guys as hope for the future, his job might not be in jeopardy. But actually signing veterans again and selling Playoffs to Vivek again, is beyond risky. It would be downright delusional. Millsap won't lead you to the Playoffs as the main guy in a Western Conference, that is pretty stacked.

If we were on the cusp of the playoffs, I'd agree. But next season we're going to be baaaaad, and gunning for another high draft pick.
Most of our best young players are bigs, and Milsap would just eat into their PT. Skal didn't blossom and Paps didn't get burn until Cuz was shipped out.
Next off season is the one to add impact vets.

If I squint real hard I can see a reasoning for acquiring Milsap. If the FO really believes that Hield and Skal and whoever we draft are our stars of the future then adding a really good vet like Milsap makes some sense. If it were me I would still hold off and let the young guys prove since I really like the vets we currently have and maybe add a lower level vet and use cap space to take on salary and add other assets. Maybe this is just residual reporting from the Kings interest earlier this year though.
I love Milsap, but yeah, everyone in the thread is right. He takes away from the big guys development and he helps us push 30 wins rather than the 20-24 we're going to win next season. Our cap space needs to be used on taking bad contracts for future assets or thrown at Otto Porter.

No to both...not sure why it would even be a consideration. Makes no sense to target either for next season.

Not saying i would want that but ive seen people on twitter say hell no to Millsap but yes to taking on Andersons albatross deal to get what? Houstons 2nd round pick?

I would also like to address Vlade's 2 year statement. He just said (paraphrasing) going in the right direction / in a better place. "In the playoffs 2018/2019 season" was never uttered. It was a mostly non-binding statement without clear-cut goals to be met.
Also, I am against purposely tanking and don't think Joerger would anyway. I also am not oblivious to the long term importance of our 2018 draft pick. Adding a Millsap or even Anderson would only hurt us overall.

So if things go smoothly on draft night and Vlade has his guys then I think Millsap is a good signing. He's a true professional and takes care of himself and Joerger clearly doesn't believe in tanking. Even with the nice showings of Skal and WCS just last season they were both either in Summer League or the D-league so they still need time to season. Mix in Temple / Vet PG and this team could be no easy out next year.

I you don't want to tank, you don't trade DMC. Simple as that.
