Pacers want to talk to Artest; Stojakovic 'disrespected'

Are you sure about that?

You think GP found out from BSPN about Peja's request?
Yes. I think if Peja had gone to Petrie, it would have been kept quiet. But his agent went to the media, which seems to be the way things get done now.

I have yet to see a Quote from Artest say 'I don't want to play with the Kings" its just something that is going to take another day or 2. Look for Artest to be in Boston.

I was wandering... If trade is consumed tommorrow after all the talks and ego-strokes, etc. etc... Ron Arters will become a Kings player. Considering that it is the rule on this forum that player-bashing is not allowed, can we still continue to use nut, nutbag, nutso, RFA, crazy one etc. when refering to Ron? It's kind of offesnive even though it's true...

What has happened to this organization over the past few seasons? It seems as if ownership has determined that for one reason or another it cannot be upfront and honest about certain dealings with its employees (Adelman and Peja learning things from the medai jump to the front of my mind). It makes the organization look second-rate, imho.
Just more of that patented Vegas-style Maloof Classiness

Hmmm. Tough call.

My initial reaction is that if it's something like "nutcase" - or "nutjob" - or "lunatic" - it's not really player bashing. Bashing implies, at least to me, an element of mistruth and exaggeration.

;)

besides, we typically give players a nickname ... Artest can just have a few being as he's so....special.

Nutbag is not palyer bashing wehn applied to Artest, its jsut as descriptive as the term Red Neck when applied to Brad, or softie when applied to Pedja. Now calling Ron Nuttier than Squirl Turds might cross the line:cool:

you're right about that. this, however, i do find interesting:

Philadelphia Inquirer - Ron Artest's agent, Mark Stevens, told the Kings his client "had no desire" to play for Sacramento, that he would report but "not be happy."

There were other deals on the table but the Los Angeles Lakers refused to trade Lamar Odom for Artest and Austin Croshere, and the Pacers turned down a deal with the Clippers for Corey Maggette because Maggette's foot injury may be more severe than expected and backed out.

Also the Golden State Warriors were believed to have gotten involved as recently as today, offering a package of Mike Dunleavy Jr., Calbert Cheaney and another player for Artest. But Dunleavy, who signed a five-year, $45 million extension before the season, and has a contract that would complicate the deal.

http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_a...iors_offering_dunleavy_in_package_for_artest/

sounds like his agent is doin' most of the talking for him. probably a good thing, tho, considering artest's propensity for talking straight from his ***.

I agree that hearing you've been traded from a premature TV report is probably the worst way to find out, but how can you be surprised? And why would you be upset when that's exactly what you asked for?

.
Peja did withdraw the trade request, and in fact today's Sac Bee quoted Peja as saying that he'd like to retire a King, and that he'd take less money to stay in Sac.

And, regardless, I think it should have been handled better. His complaints seem to be more with the way it was handled than the fact he was traded. He is not, like Webb did, saying he only wants to play in Sac, that he loves it here, that he can't imagine being anywhere else. He is just saying that after playing for this team for 7 1/2 years he feels like he deserves a little respect. I don't think that's too much to ask.

sounds to me like his agent is the nutbag. Like i said in another thread Artest him self spoke to the indy star and made it clear he never said he didn't want to come to Sacto. Aside from that how many players are ever happy the day they get traded to a team they know nothing about. Peja isn't happy in fact he is dissappointed. So how should Indy look at Peja coming in distraught and depressed.

We will all love Artest by seasons end and wonder who was that One dimmensial guy we used to have how much worse has he gotten.
we may (not me but majority here) learn to tolerate Artest. He is never going to be loved

After you watch him play you'll simply call him "The Man"
I watched him play all his career. If anything, he is a collossal waste of God-given talent. Special has played less then 30 games in two years without a single major injury.

If Artest does come he better be a stud on the court because with all the drama he is causing you would think we were getting frickin KG or something.
True. Artest is a good player. I watched him since early on in Chicago , and even then it was clear he is a very good player. But people are making it out as if this guy is the second coming of Jordan or something. He isn't. He however is the perfect player type for the Kings. Just a whole LOT of if's surrounding his character. His tenure with the Kings is rocky before it's even begun.

Here's an exerpt from a report from the Indy Star.http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060124/SPORTS04/60124024

Ultimately, ...the trade was left up in the air after Artest and Kings co-owner Joe Maloof said they had not rejected the idea.

"It's not over," Maloof told the Bloomberg News agency. "It's not dead yet. We'll sleep on it and work at it again (today)."
Which is why I am quickly losing respect for them. I thought Adleman would be gone after this season. What are going to do when Petrie decides to abandon ship?

Teams don't talk about these kinds of deals out of concern for the exact problems we're seeing right now. They're concerned that somebody will object and the deal they've accepted falls through and they end up doing more harm to the team than good.

This is the reason Peja and other players aren't told in advance. They are only told when it's necessary to complete the deal. Sometimes that is right before games or road trips or at awkward times. So players sometimes find out from friends, who heard it on tv, or read it on the internet.

It's unfortunate, but things like this are harder and harder to keep secret. One of the reasons for that are the fans insatiable appetites for this kind of news.

People have said that Artest should be reprimanded for his comments, but if the league office is serious about this stuff, maybe they should try harder to keep confidential information... confidential.

I do feel empathy for him since he’s sort of in limbo. I would not like not knowing where I'm going to be living and playing for the next few months, or having to give your all to a team that tried to get rid of you.

I'm not sure if he's upset about being traded (he's probably as ready as he'll ever be), or the fact that his opportunity to escape Sac was dashed right as he was walking out the door.

crazy, idiotice, stupid, insane, freaky, Artest may be all of these things but one thing he is for sure that is BETTER than Peja. I strongly believe none of this would have happened had Garcia and Kmart not been showing alot of light as of late. This increases our ability to take a chance. If Artest freaks out and goes to an insane asylum so be it we still go the Kids and we aren't doing well anyway and Peja is gone at seasons end. BUT if Artest comes in and plays like he can then that is a whole different ball game. Our record at the midway point is 17-24 I can all but garuntee that with Artest it will be alot better than that the second half.

I don't want to argue like i did with Webber last year (i was right) but, just open your mind and see that we are in a position to take a risk. Nothing will be lost because guess what with our current roster we suck and need to shake it up. and if Artest can do one thing thats it.

I am still trying to figure out why some of y'all would rather have Special sitting on a bench for 2.5 years (or better yet, sitting at home getting a check like he is now) because of his behavior instead of trying to get Maggette or similar who are being shopped right now....

Getting Special in a Kings uniform seems like a Laker wet dream come true. Not only are we probably out of the playoffs, we are probably out of the playoffs and OUR MANAGEMENT IS ACTIVELY PURSUING possibly the one nutball individual with the capability to completely ruin this franchise for the next 2 years. The joke is on us and we're drooling to pull that chain as fast as we can.

Good Lord, have any of you even seen what he has done to Indiana over the past 2 years?!?!?!?! Does nobody see what is going to happen here if he comes? Is today not a prime example?

how about "Special Boy"? :D

EDIT: nah, Special is fine. It gives more fluidity in the sentence...
