we will make the playoffs
------------------------------------------------------------------------
On March 6th 2000 Kings demolished Mavs @ ARCO 130 -109 improving to 35-24 for the season. Kings won the first quarter 38-20 and never looked back. Kings shot 53% and outrebounded Mavs by 10. Basically, it was Vlade and Chris vs. whatever Mavs had to offer and it was usually bad for the Mavs back then. In a game in which 7 Kings scored in double figures, Webber had triple double and lead the Kings with 22/10/11/2bl, Vlade had 19/10, Anderson had 17/4/2, Corliss had 13/6 and JWill had 13/4/6. Bench mob was lead by Barry's 132/5/2 and Martin's 11 pts.

The top offensive team in the NBA reached a new high. Chris Webber recorded his third triple-double of the season and the Sacramento Kings established their highest offensive output of the season with a 130-109 victory over the Dallas Mavericks. Webber finished with 22 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds. He was also on fire from the floor, making 10-of-14 shots in 41 minutes.

"I was excited to get everyone involved in the game tonight and as long as we win, I don't care about the other things," Webber said. "It's up to coach about the lineup and I think the changes could bring some intensity to the team."

"I thought we did a terrific job, and Webb was terrific, he shared the ball, got everyone involved and got a triple-double," Sacramento coach Rick Adelman said.

"This was a good old-fashioned western shootout, there wasn't much defense on either side," Dallas coach Don Nelson said. "When you give up 51 percent 3s and 50 points within the paint, you're not gonna win many games, especially on the road."

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Kings won 2 games on the road in a back to back sequence improving to 27-32 and despite the fact the both teams we beat - suck - it is still a promising thing if You are fan of Kings reaching the playoffs. Kings - who are on the 3 game winning streak and the winners of 4/5 games - are only 2 games away from the 7th PO spot and the way Lakers have been losing - You never know. Kings are getting ready for the 3 games home stand facing Pacers who lost 5 straight, Spusr who won 8 straight and Nuggets who are extremely inconsistent. Kings should be able to at least win 2 games which would get the closer to mediocrity - yay. If You are still behind "tanking" - it must be frustrating right now. If You are "in between" like myself - the more Kings get closer to the PO spot and thus they lose a decent draft pick position - You are eventually going to lean towards playoffs because a difference between 13 and 16 draft pick is going to be oblivious
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Winning is fun regardless of the "big picture." That is why everyone is playing this game.Obviously winning at the wrong time can cost You. There are no guarantees about anything that might happen this summer or in the near or far future. The odds might be better or worse but there aren't any guarantees. You can always plan for tomorrow but that tomorrow might never come. You have got to live today. Who is to say that that for example Horry won't hit another three or Barry ? Or that Webber won't get injured, that Bavetta won't call games till the end of time, that Kings will make FTs and on and on and on ? You have got to live now.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Speaking of now - Kevin Martin has got to win the most improved player of the year. There are several players that could be considered like Lee or Barbosa but no one has been as consistent as Kevin despite playing on a bad team with a clueless coach and 2 volume shooters. Will the NBA do the right thing - who knows but punishing Kevin for playing on a bad team wouldn't be fair. We can only hope that Kevin will continue his development as a player by also improving on the other side of the court which still remains his biggest weakness. It has been really fun to watch so far and let's hope that he stays healthy and continues to perform on this level.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So I guess - our front line is much wors that I thought. I already accepted that we will get outrebounded by anyone regardless of the size of the opponent. I have accepted that 2/3 players from that rotation will suck at any given night. I have accepted that we will live and ultimately die by jump shot. I have accepted that our opponents fromt line will have career night more often than not. I have accepted that we will miss most layups that we attempt and that we won't block any shots. However - I have expected much more that what we are getting. If we were to plant couple of trees in our paint it would be more useful. At least it would create oxygen and provide shade. Also from time to time a ball would be stuck in the branches and we would call it a rebound. The overall mobility wouldn't change at all. So let's just fight the global warming together.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sometimes things happen while writing a game thread. Ron's arrest surely doesn't shock or surprise anyone. That possibility was/is always there. Timing is impeccable - that is for sure. I will wait untill - I know more but domestic violence is serious problem these days. Unless David Stern made the unanimous call - Ron probably did something extremely stupid again. And speaking of Mr. Stern - he will enjoy this one again. Man, DUI sure looks "harmless" right now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Coach's corner is sponsored by Dan's bail bonds, Court TV and Jerry Springer. Muss making a strong push for COY - in dog years of course. How much is his contribution for the recent good form of the team - it is highly debatable. It looks like his practicing rebounding isn't paying off just yet but Kings are playing better and haven't almost "won a game" in a while. Looks like Muss is failing even in a quest to get us a high draft pick. I don't know about You - but I am not sure that world is ready for Muss coaching in the post season
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
So Blazers were 3 in a row and Kings teid the season series. Kevin was brilliant and overall Kings did really solid except the rebounding. Blazers just couldn't take care of the ball and amazingly enough we had more blocked shots than them (2:1). All in all it was great win. Muss got the team to show up on the 2nd game of the back to back sequence
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
AWARD TIME

TDM went to Martel Webster but he didn't do enough damage.

LW-VC award went to Aldridge who couldn't hit the Pacific ocean. Bibby was very close second in this category

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pacers are next and they are in total disarray. They lost 5 straight and couldn't even score 70 against the Clippers. Key to this game is being ready to play. We beat them a week ago easily without Ron and now we will have to make sure not to take them lightly. Playing zone should help and also they still don't have anyone who could guard kevin or Ron for that matter.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mike - thank god we didn't need him last game
Kevin - make it another week - kid
Ron - never a dull moment
Brad - how about 7 rebounds this time. And don't bother guarding JO because You can't
SAR - it is his turn for a bad game now.
------------------------------------------------------------
rest - mateen
-----------------------------------------------------------
Muss - can he get the team ready and avoid extre distractions ? kool aid flvor of the day - V8
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pacers are sinking without a trace. Even Titanic looked better. They still have JO and we still can't guard him. Their perimeter shooting is a suspect and zone should do it. TDM will go to Granger. The LW-VC award will go to one of the pacers guards or one of our "bigs" When it is all said and done - Kings prevail.

kings winning 3 straight and going against the weakest pacer team we've seen in 3/4 years. on a 5 game loosing streak? i like the pacers. but im hoping this is one losing streak that doesnt snap on tuesday. i think we beat them the last time. they'll be wanting payback.

kings have plenty of games left. with the way clippers, hornets, denver and lakers are playing we can get to the playoffs as long as we win consistantly.

Exactly...the teams ahead of us are inconsistent, but so are we. If we play like we've been doing the last few games, then we'll make the playoffs. Our schedule is hard, but many times it's all about who gets hot at the right time. We had a great run last year and the Spurs were not happy to play us. We almost came up with the upset and beat them. While I would like to get the great player in this years draft, I don't believe in tanking, and teams that make the playoffs 8 years in a row are very rare, we are with 3 teams currently who have done this. We do have a large hole at 4/5 and this has to be fixed, but I'm not about taking. The playoffs are within our grasp again and we should go for it. Even if we did tank, there are other teams much more proficient in this then us. Also look at other teams that get the lottery pick year in and year out, many of them are still crappy.

Ron has been "indefinitely excused" from the team. His arraignment is set for March 22. It is easily conceivable he won't play until then at the earliest... It depends upon the actual circumstances of the incident. And by that I don't mean what the media speculates.

Its certainly possible, but I hope not unless it was considerably bad. Whihc it may have been. But in any case a "leave of absence" that long would create so much stink the underlying offense would lamost be irrelevant.

This has to go on the all-time Piksi list of quotes....

Awesome.

Does anyone find it ironic that all the Pacer fans told us Ron would blow up and then he went boom the day before we play them?

nah, purely coincidental. I dont even want to think about this incident, in fact...it just sucks that we're fans of a team that never has a dull moment, good or bad, in its entire exsistance. Bonehead trades, players commiting suicide, domestic violence(i.e: Duane Causwell, Olden Polynice), coaches fainting in the middle of games, gambling owners, arena woes...it never stops.

edit: I wonder what its like to be fans of a team in a 'one horse' town that doesnt have drama, and does nothing but win?? i.e.: San Antonio.

Had me rollin', Piksi. Too funny.:D

San Antonio has had its share of drama. They nearly lost the Spurs when they couldn't get an arena deal done. It took a lot of work and a couple of ballot measures before things got resolved. There was a LOT of drama during that time...

But nothing like this... I mean, OUR arena situation is all over the media, primarily because of our owner's (other)'hometown' dealings, which adds to the heartache of the situation extremely . I can't think of any other sports franchise that is so beloved in their city and fans that has gone through so much on court drama, off court drama, death, etc. Hell, even Portland has a ring and a couple trips to the Finals to go along with all the 'Jailblazers' stuff. Man, I just don't know what the hell is going on. I know I've always had hope that even an arena deal can get done so we can keep our team that we love so much...but I honestly am starting to think we really are cursed, and no matter what, in the end, we as the fans will lose...ultimately.

p.s.: sorry for the doom and gloom, but with everything that has happened with this team, in its 22 year history...one can only ponder the big picture with everything historically...past, present and future.

Boy howdy, am I excited to see John Salmons starting for the foreseeable future.

What an exciting team this is!

Ugh...Im just venting a tiny bit of frustration.

lets keep our eyes on the denver/new orleans game tonite. it could potentially be another step closer to the 8th spot combined with a kings win

right. i would prefer the nuggets to lose so it will bring us closer to the #8 spot. however if the hornets lose it'll give the kings more breathing room. i think they're right behind us. really cant lose either way. as long as we win tonight the outcome of the hornets/nuggets should give us a good step

That town is also in a sleeper hold.

I have a sneaking suspicion that this past Trailblazer game will be the last one for Ron-Ron in a King's uniform. He had a thin rope, and now it's broken.

Actually, the Hornets are still ahead of us. If they lose, we will move into a tie with them, which they'd win for having better division and conference records. And that would increase Denver's grip on the #7 slot, FWIW.

If NO/OKC win, then Denver will drop back into a tie with the Clips for 7th/8th, but both those teams have better division records than us, so we'd still have to gain 2 games in the rankings to get into the playoffs.

The Nets are playing Dallas, which means that the Nets will be losing tonight.

The only difference I see is that, with us tied for 11th/12th spot in the lottery, and 11th/12th/13th after the Nets lose, if Denver wins we'll be tied for 11th/12th/13th/14th in the lottery without getting any any closer to a playoff spot. If NO/OKC win, we'll have a tiny bit better draft chances without changing our shot at a playoff berth.

And that's why they were laughing, because now we're going through what they're going through.

Or maybe the Pacers fans I know are just weird.

The Pacers fans I know and respect - the folks over at PacersDigest - are not laughing at us. They know all too well what we're feeling. They went through worse than we did...
