Ongoing saga of Luc Mbah a Moute (merged)

Kinda weird. No update from him on twitter. Still says Forward for the Sacramento Kings haha
I have a feeling that he's still going to make it on to the roster by training camp. It's just too odd that he come off a season where he played in more games than he had for quite some time and looked just fine...then all the sudden.

There's more to this story and I think it's a strategy that still gets him on the team

Does the NBA allow players who have failed a physical to play?
I don't believe any such rule is in place - with the exception of NBA concussion protocols I don't think there are any injury mandates from the league office.

However, the NBA does not allow players to play if they have not signed a valid contract. The Kings voided Mbah a Moute's contract on the basis of his failed physical - but it's possible he could pass a second physical for us or another team. Physicals are conducted by the individual teams, not by the league, and teams can make individual assessments on a player's injury status/risk based on the results of their own physicals.

The big issue is whether the contract can be insured with the injury.

So, could they bring Luc back on a partially or non-guaranteed type of contract? Seems like since he failed his physical, he has fallen off the face of the earth. Maybe they are doing more physicals? Working out a new deal? I don't see him getting more than a one year with a team option in the second year type of deal though.

Don't think so. Drug use is a different situation than not being able to pass a physical. For one thing, testing positive immediately kicks in a leaguewide drug protocol.
That would have been my initial reaction too, but this just seems weird how quiet things got, and it occurred tome that with the fairly sophisticated masking agents being developed for PEDs that the agents themselves might trigger concern whole not rising to the level of a "dirty test" But that seems fairly convoluted. The imagination runs rampant when information is sparse.

Yeah odd that. Rotator cuff? Severe dislocation ala Love? Whatever it was, unless he was playing through a lot of pain at the end of Philly's lost season it would be something that happened this summer.

Kings fans truly have to get past trying to find hidden meaning in every action. Sometimes that silver balloon in the night sky really is just a silver balloon.

A lot of times when players have a long history of injury and all of the sudden they play the most games in their careers, the next year, their knee is shot and they barely play the year after.

Lrmbm may have played through a lot of pain because he was a free agent and maybe the injury caught up with him on the physical.

If lrmbm doesn't sign anywhere this year, I think his knee was the problem.

If there's still interest, why haven't they just signed?

There can't be THAT much leeway/room between the two parties - the previous contract wasn't that long, and likely wasn't for that much.

There's no need to rush. If there is an issue with his shoulder, we can just wait to see if it can be resolved.

sign him unless its a massive red flag.

taking into account what he offers as well as taking into account the mins he will play for us being marginal i pull the trigger.

may be that we are looking at medical diagnosis and potential surgery and working out a deal as a mid season pick up.

We are having a grievance filed against us from the players association. Luc is quoted as saying that we have made a mistake and that our physician was not accurate. This is quite curious and doesn't happen often. I wonder what the end result will be.

Curioser and curioser.

Also a little suspicious on his part. He's a long time vet. Nobody else has signed him. Either he really wants to come here or maybe there is a real issue, he knows it, and he's hoping to litigate his way back into keeping that contract because he knows nobody else will give him one now.

Given that we're now going to be subject to an NBA arbitration over this, I'm going to bump this thread back over into...personnel moves I guess.

Yeah I read something about that. And the failed physical was a mistake by kings doctors and hurt his image. So yeah I don't think he's coming back if he's upset with us.
I think he might be trying to get us to honor the contract because he can't secure another.

And given my own preferences I'm not sure I'd be upset if we "lost" this grievance and had to keep him.
