I've been watching this season like everyone else and agree that our D leaves a lot to be desired especially in the rebounding and transition dept. But one thing has really stood out to me, and that's our unwillingness as a team to take charges. I remember Pollard and Vlade back over the years willing to MAN UP and make the dude ram past them. That was really our interior D back then.
Last year and this year, we let the opponent constantly run around or past us without making them earn it or help D making them earn a bucket. I did see young Flash take a few in the preseason but this is where our bigs could really help. Pollard was completely unscared to put his arms up and plant his feet and Vlade was the King of standing his ground or flopping (whichever you prefer). They got it done and gave us an interior presense, something we've really been missing. Not to mention Vlade averaged I think 9 RBPG most of his time here except for last season when our D became porous and Pollard was gone.
Anyway, if we aren't going to give hard fouls consistently, it would be nice to see either primary defender or help defender set his feet a bit more often, take the charge or blocking foul, and show that you can't just bring it in the paint.
I know, FAT CHANCE, but Man it would really benefit us in the playoffs. I also know Pollard and Vlade probably got some of their back problems by taking so much punishment over the years.
Any thoughts?
