One Kings fan's pledge...

VF21's pledge:

I, VF21, hereby pledge not to panic after a loss. I promise to enjoy the game, not just the final score.

I, VF21, hereby pledge not to try and point the finger at any one player for bad play, especially in a loss. Just as the wins are team wins, the losses are team losses.

I, VF21, hereby pledge not to waste my time trying to argue with those who will invariably come here and make outrageous comments about one or more players OR the coach. I will discuss the game, the players, etc. in a logical matter with anyone who is here for good discussion and not get drawn into the trap of arguing the unarguable with those whose opinions defy logic.

I, VF21, hereby pledge to show pity and understanding towards those poor souls who are fans of other teams and come to this board to post some drivel in an attempt to show they are somehow better than we. I will continue to show that pity and understanding right up until the time I reach for the POOF dust.

I, VF21, hereby pledge to continue to be a Kings fan as long as there are Kings to root for. I realize that with all their faults and fallacies they are still capable of taking my breath away and making me scream until I'm hoarse even in the middle of my living room.

I, VF21, LOVE THIS TEAM!!!

I'm sure it feels good to reaffirm your love of the Kings, VF21. I certainly won't disparage your personal style of team support. Continued best wishes for wherever our Kings fandom takes us.

Phew that first pledge is a tough one :) I usually begin panic mode after the 1st QTR.

I think we need to print this page out and before every game recite this pledge. It may keep me calm and may allow me to NOT annoy the neighbors with my screaming and yelling.

You're most likely safe, hoopsfan... I find it extremely difficult to POOF people I've enjoyed spending time with.

And you may irritate us sometimes but you aren't a troll.

(This is rapidly getting off-topic.) ;)

A troll is someone who comes to a board not to contribute but to cause problems. They aren't really fans - at least not of the team whose board they've come to. They generally don't last long because moderators - Bricklayer and VF21 - are here to deal with them. Bricklayer's choice of weapon is a bat. Mine has been POOF dust, which when sprinkled upon trolls, causes them to disappear. Recently, however, I have become rather fond of a Kings lance, which seems totally appropriate and was, in fact, designed for me by one of our members:

I certainly don't want to stray off the topic even more, so let me just say that I love it. All the way down to the purple stripes and the ouch. Very cool. I have to say that is genious. OK, back on topic..........tomorrow night I am going to whip out this pledge and say it with Kings cap on and wine in hand. Now depending on how far I get into the wine, will directly affect my strength of the pledge. One can dream.

Man if we all hold up to this pledge, it would make for a pretty bland and boring board, don't you think? I mean I am not down with the panicing after every loss but I do admit it is funny as all get out:D

I'm not asking anyone else to "take the pledge"... I pretty much posted it as a counter to the thread that one person posted, stating he was getting off the bandwagon and becoming a Bulls-Heat fan.

An addendum to this pledge:

I, (name of Kings fan), hereby pledge that while I shall always maintain hope in my team, I shall maintain an honest and reasonable expectation of the King's talent and ability.

Good pledge, VF. I agree with all of it.

'Cept the POOF dust, of course, I don't have that power. (Oh, but if I did...)

However, if I were to make such a pledge for myself, I would have to make sure it had verbage that would allow me to stomp around the house angrily and contemplate which item I could throw that would do the least amount of damage to the TV for, at least, five minutes after a loss.

After that, I'll be rational.

I recommend a very soft nerf ball. I keep one handy at all times and it has never done damage to my TV. :D

If you'll notice, I was very careful NOT to mention going outside and kicking trees, or turning fairly decent sized pieces of firewood into small little toothpick-sized pieces. Sometimes a splitting maul can be very good for relieving frustrations.

Good to know that there are level-headed people out there. Its always refreshing to see a fan who has that ever-elusive virtue of patience.

Thanks for the sanity check

Lovely pledge VF - but please don't kick the trees. :)
Uh oh. Busted...

It's a figure of speech, treewoman. I don't actually kick them. I go outside and threaten to kick them. But, because they are HUGE Ponderosa Pines I don't actually kick them because ... okay, I did kick one once in a real tizzy fit and broke two toes. So now I just go outside and bluster at them and act like I COULD kick them but I'm just not going to...

I must admit VF if you can uphold to that pledge you are a better person than me. I get upset if we're losing in the first quarter and I seem to have better conversations with the tv at that point than I do with most people. Unfortunately it doesn't help. Maybe I should try some of Daniela's wine.
