On-Night Off-Night

At the very least, Davion has been the centerpiece of the these last 2 wins and all of a sudden is really finding his offensive game. Can't even claim "BUT LOOK AT HIS OPPONENT LULZ" because DDV has been his best teammate these last 2 games with Harrison Barnes, Trey Lyles, Damian Jones, Justin Holiday and Metu as his supporting cast. Not exactly the most help in the world either.

He's been doing it against a bunch of "good" young guards too.

He was giving Tyrese fits in Indiana and he mage Cole and Fultz look absolutely terrible at times tonight.

Exhibit A: zero championships.

I took a Sport Psychology course at UCLA. UCLA does sport psychiatry for the US Olympic program. Met John Wooden and a few Olympic athletes through that class. The team that is considered the best ever from a sport psych perspective. The Kings are missing this kinda culture.

I think Davion needs 20 shots in an entire game to really get going. He's one of those guys who can start a game 2-8, but shoot himself out of a slump to end up with a decent percentage at the end of a game.

The challenge for him is going to be just as effective on 10-15 shots a night off the bench.

out of curiosity, what type of accolades did that Rugby team achieve in their sport?

Well, last night I think he started 8-11 and then went 2-12 the rest of the way. It's very tough for the rest of the guys to get into an offensive flow when the primary ball handlers take a lot of shots.

It's good experience for Mitchell heading into next year. Knowing that he's going to work like crazy in the off-season and come into camp ready to go from Day 1 makes me a happy camper.

if Mitchell continues to show his offensive prowess, he can be a third or fourth option for this team moving forward as Fox and Sabonis each get their 15-20 shots. Kings don't need Mitchell to be a distributor because quite frankly, I don't think that's in his game full time and if you ask him to not be aggressive on offense, you are taking away his strengths.

Your franchise player should be your hardest worker.

"Coach, talk about Davion Mitchell's work ethic."
"Well, he's not the hardest worker on the team."

What is he supposed to say? That he's not putting in the hard work?

The question didn’t ask whether he was the team’s hardest worker. It asked about his work ethic, The hardest worker part was volunteered. Just sigh.

Considering everything we've been told about Davion showing up to the gym at all hours and the team forcing him to go home, I think the point is that he would be the hardest worker on any team. He'll learn to take it a little easier on his body eventually (probably) but that's what you love to hear about any rookie. He's as committed to getting better as any player in recent memory. Turning a compliment into a condemnation of someone else is coming from you not the coach.

In Rugby Union they are basically something similar to the USA basketball Team near unbeatable except for 2-3 choke jobs in the Rugby Union World Cup in semi finals/grand finals. in Rugby League (they perform the haka there to but different players) they get trashed by Australia in nearly every year for the past 30 years.

The actual dance has nothing to do with their success it's just basically the people of NZ play at a way higher level and get a lot of the elite talent that comes over from the Pacific Islands (Tonga, Samoa, Fiji, Cook Islands and others) mixed with the huge Maori/European white talent they have already. Add to that it's the national sport (Rugby League a distant 2nd) AND elite coaching and it's pretty much game over for everyone other than Australia/South Africa/England getting the odd win every now and again.
