FYI - If you don't subscribe, make sure you get the Dec. 21 issue of Sports Illustrated. There's a four-page spread with pictures on Omri Casspi. You'll want to add it to your collection!

:D
OMG! As long as he doesn't end up on the cover..... :D

Definitely going to pick up that issue as soon as it's available.

I think I was the only one wearing an Omri Hebrew jersey at Arco. I felt like an Israeli spy or something. Dude played awesome. Crazy awesome.

From the Boxscore his 6-16, 2-8 line doesnt seem that great.

But...This nationally televised game is the first Kings game I've had the pleasure of watching all year and it seemed that EVERY single second he was on the court Omri was doing something positive.

Love this team.

And that's why I always recommend that people not try and draw too many conclusions from box scores. They just don't tell the real story. Glad you were able to see the game ... and an outstanding performance by Omri, stats or no stats.

Being at the game, it felt like he was the perfect lethal roleplayer. His play is like some kind of hybrid scrap that I'm having trouble trying to sum up.

Besides all the things already mentioned, I was very impressed with Omri's composure at the FT line. He just looked more relaxed at the line tonight. I only remember him missing 1 FT, and I remember him hitting about 6 or 7. Of course, my memory often fails me, so I don't know what his actual numbers were.

we cant pull that lineup on most teams, it mainly only worked cuz jamison is undersized. but ya when the mis match is there against a smaller PF, I say hells yes to that line up. I liked that lineup because everyone could shoot, all tyreke had to do was drive and dish.
I didn't mean permanent line-up. Just until Hawes gets the fire lit under him.

For real. He got into everything. Deflections, tips, diving to the floor. He has the potential to fill up the statsheet AND bring a TON of intangibles. Its awful to say...But I can see him being our Horry... He just always gets himself in the right place at the wrong time (wrong for the other team that is).

I heared that only one player a team can get into the rookie game, Life if Evans will get into the rookie game, Casspi wont be able to play at the rookie game too...
is that true?

Nope -- just last year Memphis had both OJ Mayo and Marc Gasol in the game as rooks, and the year before that Kevin Durant and Jeff Green both started from Seattle (now Oklahoma City). So unless they've changed the rule there would be nothing preventing Casspi from starting alongside Evans.

You sure? Have you ever seen a player play in both? Im not sure a rookie has made the big game in the last several years since they started doing the rookie game, but I cant remember it happening.

No I'm not sure. The only rookie I can recall making it during the rookie/sophomore game era was Yao Ming and he played in the All Star game but not the rookie game. Thing is though that next year he played in both the All Star game and the rookie game (as a sophomore). So...not sure. Don't see why it wouldn't be like the various other events though, 3pt shootout, dunk contest etc. Just participate in them all.

This is easy to see what happened.

Whoever did the rankings is placing jennings above Tyreke at the POINT GAURD position. The all rookie squad has 1 player at each position, so since they have Jennings above Reke at PG, Tyreke is relegated to 2nd team.

He has Omri as the best SF in the rookie class, thus he is 1st team among rookies.

Even though we know Tyreke is a more complete player than jennings and I have not seen almost anywhere that is not praising Tyreke as the top rookie out of last years draft.

No big deal.

and the peja trade before it! i've been noticing the petrie haters have been awfully quiet lately :D.
Off topic, but I'll reply: THAT trade never made me a Petrie hater, I loved getting Artest, and I loved what he brought to our team when he got here, but he DID have some very bad moves(at best)with the Jason Hart signing, Shareef signing, Webber trade, drafting Douby, etc. But I've never been a hater, even with those moves.

Now, back on topic:

OMRI IS A BEAST! He is a different breed of international player...and he could become the most complete international player this side of Vlade if he continues like this, and what's not to like about that! And just think, Petrie snatched him up at #23 when 22 other teams didnt pay attention...well, lets see how many people pay more attention to Israeli basketball now that Omri has opened their eyes!:) Wouldnt be too surprising to see a couple more Israeli's playing in the NBA sometime in the near future. Definitely on my to buy list when I get some money is the Casspi Hebrew Jersey.

The write-up was also published December 4th. I'm sure it would be utterly different now.

Yeah I have a question. Am I the only one who was dancing around the sofa on Wed. night yelling "Omri is lighting it up on Chanukah."

Lame perhaps...but the joke is only in play 8 nights a year.
HAHAHAHA!!!:D Nice!!

edit: maybe Casspi will be in Adam Sandler's next Hanukkah song, eh?:D

Casspi > Peja as Rookie

It's not even close. Casspi can post. Casspi can drive and FINISH. Casspi is more of a creative offensive player. Casspi can shoot just as well from the outside as Peja. Casspi is tougher, NO DOUBT. Better defender. The only aspect he's not better at at the same age is free throws. Even if you compare Casspi to the Peja three years into the league, he's still better.

Don't jump on the Israeli basketball bandwagon just yet, Casspi is a rare breed amongst Israeli athletes.

There are two players right now with roughly comparable talent, Lior Elyahu (plays for Caja Lavoral Vitoria in spain) Who is actually more gifted then Casspi, (longer, more athletic, a better passer, and uses the bacboard like James Worthy) but has none of his work ethic, so he hasn't improved at all in the past 5 years and he needs to work on his J, his off hand, his defencive footwork and gain about 30-40 pounds of muscle. I won't hold my breath.

The other is Yotam Halperin, who plays alongside Josh Childress for Olympiacos Pyraeus. A multi-talented guard in the mold of Beno Udrich, but he has a well earned reputation of shying away from the ball in crunch time.

We do have a couple of reasonably promising younger guys, but one of them is riding the pine as a freshman for the Gators, and the other doing the same for the Temple Owls. That guy did have a 19 pt, 30 rb, 9 ast, 6 blck game for the highschools title a couple of years back which was fun to watch.
