Official Season Prediction Thread

#31
Based on the posters up to this point, the mean number of wins so far this season is 37ish, with a standard deviation of 8.18 (which is pretty big).

How is statistics not math?
Statistics is a division of math with particular applications. Math majors are not necessarily statisticians. I've taken lots of math classes (including several classes of calculus and differential equations for my engineering degree) and only one statistics class - it was enough to let me know they are NOT the same. ;)

Sacramento Kings 2007-08 # of wins...

20-29: Disaster in Kingsville
30-35: Musselman probably could have delivered as much or so little
36-40: We're rebuilding for the future - right?!
41-45: Playoff contender with everyone singing - Reggie you da man!
46++: Theus leading candidate for NBA Coach of the Year & Sac Mayor

Got some of the the categories wrong:

Sacramento Kings 2007-08 # of wins...

20-29: Woohoo! Finally a leg up on the rebuild, potential star in the draft, and forces Geoff to smell the coffee.
30-35: Reggie, Muss, one unqualified coach for another and one long drab tease.
36-40: We're rebuilding for the future - right?!
41-45: #8 seed wannabe garbage contender with everyone singing - yippee! we screwed ourselves over again and will be winning a miserable 35-45 until 2020!
46++: Theus leading candidate for NBA Coach of the Year & Sac Mayor

Going to stick in my original range and say 39, because we are idiots. But if we start deconstructing in midseason (and why on earth we wouldn't do it in the offseason makes no sense, but whatever) the numbers could swing considerably.

That was a predictable prediction:cool:
The other day I was reading back to some threads right before last season. We were all dissing The Joker pretty good for his predictions and in the end even he was too optomistic. It was so funny I actually bumped it, but it was deemed confusing and locked.

Because Mike and Brad cannot possibly suck as bad as last season, and I am also basing this on Reggie controlling Ron on the O side of the floor.

If all THREE of those guys play well, Mikki contributes where he is needed, the running game works, the rebounding gets better, and Kevin stays as productive as last season, it could be a :::gulp::: winning team. But that would involve all of the planets in the solar system aligning at the same time, so I stick with the losing record prediction.

I also predict that this team will be way more fun to watch than last year's, regardless of their ultimate record. That's more important to me than our record.

And 1Kingzfan nailed it. Especially with the bolded sentence.

I hope this is not too confusing. It was requested that I bump this at the appropriate time.

I specifically predicted 38.5 wins at the beginning with a vote in the 36-40 spot. I got my number by taking last seasons 33 and the year before 44 for a two year average. If I'd known what a horrible hand the Kings and Coach Theus would be dealt as the season played out I probably would have predicted no more than a Muss-like 33 wins or maybe not even 30. By the same token, if the Kings had not lost Bibby, Martin, etal to lengthy injury time Theus might well have gotten the team to .500 if not better.

And with a 39 win prediction, I prove myself again the most underrated eternal optimist on this board -- 4 straight years I have guessed high.

Brickie, maybe predict 25 wins next year - hopefully if you're right we'll actually start the rebuilding process properly and get either Rubio, Griffin or DeRozan next year. :p

I was overoptimistic again, too... guessed 40-42 (since it seemed like the worst possible case), though admitting that 37 was more likely.

I couldn't find my prediction although I could have sworn I made one. More than likely it got deleted because of some Bonus coverage I may have given. LOL:D
