DENVER (AP) - The Denver Nuggets have suspended Carmelo Anthony for one game for an "in-game transgression" Sunday against Indiana.

"There is a code of conduct that we take very seriously, especially from a leader and co-captain," Rex Chapman, vice president of player personnel, said Monday. "Carmelo knows this and regrets what happened. He is a very competitive person and made a poor decision in the heat of the moment. e look forward to having him back on Thursday and will have no further comment at this time."
He did not elaborate on what Anthony did to earn the suspension.
The Denver Post, citing anonymous sources, said Anthony refused to come out of the game in the third quarter when coach George Karl tried to remove him.
2 suspensions in 1 season(both by the Nuggets), the other one was for his drunk driving last year. I didn't expect this from Melo.

I didn’t expect this either, I wonder what he did…I wonder if the Nuggets are interested in trading Melo to us. They sure can use Kenny Thomas. lol

how can you not expect this from melo? He's the guy that took cheap shots in the fight against the knicks. He's the one that had the drunk driving incident. He's the one that said he wishes he could lay kobe out when he took it down the lane only because his team was getting smashed on by the lakers on their way to getting swept. Melos a punk

He's got some mild baggage, but it appears to me the majority of his problems stem from on-court immaturity at times--he really can get frustrated. But the talent level overshadows all of that anyway.

On ESPN they said he refused to come out of the game against Indiana in the third quarter

I'd sure like to know more about that situation. Did he refuse after getting a foul? Did he refuse because he was on a hot (or cold) streak?

It's a shame the Rocky Mountain News went out of business last week because that's the type of question they would have known the answer(s) to...

Ah, they went down huh? Its started, I'm going to be in the only city left with a local newspaper in a couple of years.

Yep, they're gone and word is the SF Chronicle will most likely be next.

Sorry for the OT...

Here's a follow up to the article above:

This stood out for me:

As productive as Anthony has been since the Nuggets drafted him No. 3 overall in 2003, his behavior has often been a problem.
Nearly five years ago, he apologized to his teammates for refusing to play in the final minutes of a loss on the road against the Pistons.
The Nuggets suspended him for the first two games of this season, punishing him for getting arrested for drunken driving last spring while they were pushing for a playoff berth.
He was suspended for 15 games in the 2006-07 season for his involvement in the Nuggets' brawl with the New York Knicks when he landed a punch and ran away.
Earlier in his career, Anthony's name kept showing up in the headlines for all the wrong reasons: A bar fight in New York City; a bag of marijuana found in his backpack at the airport; showing up on a bootleg DVD in Baltimore in which a man threatened to kill drug snitches.

Hope he doesn't turn into another Sprewell, it would be a waste of great talent.

Does this mean the end of written journalism for Woody Paige?? ;)

Sad stuff though. I have also heard that news on the Chronicle. I have a friend who works there who is preparing for the move.

I would love to see George Karl bench his sorry butt just for the attitude. Melo is trying to turn the whole thing into something much bigger than what it was and the sarcasm is not going to help his cause. Anthony is a player, Karl is the coach. This whole trend of players thinking they're entitled to publicly question everything that a coach does is just crap...

Interestingly, Anthony never apologized for his actions, either in his chat with the media or his 20-minute meeting with Karl.

That says it all, IMHO.
