we gotta winner Mr. Citrus
Bull. It is not between him and the cops. The cops are enforcing a law that society has made to protect itself from dangerous and life-threatening behavior. It's between him and society. It's between him and me and my family and loved ones. Everyone has NOT done it. I'll concede that maybe the majority has done it, but I think they are just as stupid, immature and selfish as Carmelo. They are would-be murderers behind the wheel of their weapon of choice.i didnt say it was a smart decision to drink and drive. but everyone has done it. regardless if its just 1 beer or 1 margarita or 1 shot. because he's a basketball player shouldnt make the situation any worse. and it should be no one's business but his and the cops.
You seem to not remember what you actually said, so let me remind you:liars? who said that????? i didnt say that. and im not accusing those "6" people of doing it. im sayin that alot of people on here under or over the age of 21 has done it. im sure of that.
You didn't say some, you didn't say many, you didn't even say the majority. You said everyone. EVERYONE drinks and drives, according to you, or has done it. And you said that AFTER five people came into this thread to said that they have never done it. So you either have a habit of not meaning what you say, or you're accusing those five people of lying.i didnt say it was a smart decision to drink and drive. but everyone has done it. regardless if its just 1 beer or 1 margarita or 1 shot. because he's a basketball player shouldnt make the situation any worse. and it should be no one's business but his and the cops.
just because alot of people do it doesnt make it right. its a terrible thing to do. my argument is this. quit acting like your stuff dont stink. most people here have gotten behind the wheel after at least 1 drink. beer or whatever. and it shouldnt be magnified more than usual because he's a basketball player. thank the lord no one was hurt. so yes its a matter between him and the cops. unless someone gets hurt. then its between him and the family AND the cops.
When you have poll results that show this, I will believe it. I think a lot of folks are smarter than you give them credit for....
And if you honestly think drunk driving is nobody's business except the police, you really are naive.
my argument is this. quit acting like your stuff dont stink.
its not an issue with you or I if it doesnt affect you or I. a man beating his wife is wrong. and its also illegal, but it has nothing to do with us and therefore none of our business. thats life. and thats the way the ball bounces no matter what you say. its nice to see a few people being honest about the matter. also, it could easily be that more of the individuals that have done it before arent saying anything. the thread is just flooded with "goodie two shoes"![]()
just to point out, your argument arc has gone from:
1) everyone does it (implication: it's common so it's okay), to
2) you shouldn't judge him, to
3) it's none of our business.
which is it?
my favorite quote from this thread though is "i find it hard to believe that most of yall have never gotten behind the wheel after a drink. severely intoxicated or not."
probably because you're drunk.
a valid argument has many points.
my argument is this.
and i never said we shouldnt judge him.
quit acting like your stuff dont stink.
i know drinking and driving is wrong.

tyrant said:ok. some of yall are sounding a little like espn columnists. it was a mistake. its not like he chose to rob a bank the day before a playoff game. im sure most of everyone here has gotten behind the wheel after a drink. i know i have. thats life.

I will go on record as agreeing with everyone:
1) I agree that drinking and driving is really stupid and dangerous and people should be prosecuted for such a reckless act..
2) I agree with tryant that basically everyone has done something stupid and dangerous at some point in their life (so please try and resist the temptation of piling on "melo). I think this is kind of what Tyrant is trying to say.

So why is threatening to kill people as a drunk driver less stupid than threatening to kill people while holding up a 7-Eleven? Equally dumb choices to me. People could be just as equally dead or injured under either scenario.no one is arguing the fact that its dangerous and it causes lives. i admit that. its wrong and its dangerous. he got pulled over, DUI, shame on carmello, move on. it tickles me the responses that im seeing. you would think he tried to knock off a 7-eleven. now THAT would be stupid. but drinking and driving happens everyday. and like i said it could be just 1 drink. and a DUI doesn't necessarily mean he was drunk.

That kind of ostrich thinking is a really great way to ensure that all the things that are crazy and ****ed up in this world stay crazy and ****ed up forever.
And, for the record, I am FAR from a "goodie two shoes," but I've managed to avoid EVER getting behind the wheel when I shouldn't have been driving. Even in my most questionable of moments. To suggest that all of human kind fundamentally lacks this level of discretion is a tremendous insult to our collective intelligence. Everyone is capable of making this decision, the only difference is that some people have used enough "everyone's done it at least once" logic to justify their own bad choices and pick up the keys anyway.

you really dont understand do you. its like some of you take a paragraph, skim through it, and comment. there's 0 effort in actually trying to understand what someone is saying. under no circumstance is it ok to do something illegal just because people do it everyday. i said that drunk driving happens everyday and the punishment for carmelo shouldnt be any worse because he's a basketball player. just throw him in the electric chair why dont ya
Your post does not surprise me.
On the contrary, we all understand what you are saying, we just obstensibly disagree.
'Melo is a public figure. He should expect the court of public opinion to lean harshly upon him. This isn't a new trend. Your apparent surprise to our reactions is just silly.
As far as your electric chair comment goes...
Try attacking an argument that was actually made. You are exaggerating our reactions in an attempt to discredit them.
You really should step back, re-read your comments, and realize that you are minimalizing the issue because you yourself have had similar transgressions. That in itself is not uncommon, but it doesn't make it right.

if you're a "public figure" youre going to face controversy if you make a mistake. things will be magnified in that way because you're a star. however thats the media's job. not yours or anyone else's that post in this forum. you along with everyone else have deliberately made attempts strangle the life out of this thread and change my argument which was made clear yesterday. im not siding with carmello and im not making excuses for him based on my personal vendettas. i simply made the statement that people do dumb things all the time and because of that you shouldnt get all over his case because you've (not you in general) have probably done the same thing.
