Nothing Happened?

That is not tre sometimes it takes awhile for the paperwork to get sorted out in league offices. the dealine passed but does not mean no trades.

This pretty much says that there wasn't anything worth taking on the table. I wouldn't see it as management not really doing anything per se. I would rather nothing happen than just a meaningless movement of players - a my junk for your junk sort of trade.

You know what really ticks me off is the fact that we traded Webb so we can get "moveable pieces". Well, these moveable pieces turned into friggin'
Potapenko and quite possibly not enough cap space in the off season(Assuming Bibby doesn't opt out) to barely offer somewhere more than the MLE??? Not to mention we are stuck with that Red *** Kenny Thomas for 3 more years.

Exactly how I feel. I don't want a trade just to create the illusion of doing something.

I said this in a thread yesterday.

I wouldn't be holding my breath for any late-breaking announcements...
Very true, but is there some "Official" website to check showing what has been submitted to the league by the deadline and is just waiting for League approval at this point? I'm sure there was a mad rush at the end as many teams were no doubt scrambling to make some moves before the deadline.

Now with being on the other side of the trade deadline...when is the next time a team can make a trade...only in the offseason at this point? Was this the only window and now it's shut and teams go the rest of the season intact as they are?

At the very least I hope we would have gotten the $8.6M Brown expiring for SAR and maybe Pot, that would be a $5M expiring after this year considering Pot is $3.6M expiring himself.

Also with putting Bibby on notice that he is no longer wanted here, it will be interesting if he walks this offseason, or sticks it to us for another year at $13.5M. He sure has the ball in his court especially due to his bad play and huge contract with the opt out clauses.

After this is all said and done...I hope we have learned out lesson with the Webber contract included and be more sensible not to tie so much $/years into 1 player. It's kind of hard not to sometimes as Artest and KMart look to be making big $/multiple years from us in the near future.

To an extent it is somewhat inevitable, but I really don't like to see 1 player making like more then 10% of the Cap by himself, I much rather have a lot of small "Moveable Pieces"!!! :p Sorry I know that's a sore spot.

He's not exactly unmovable. How else did he end up in Sacramento.
We're stupid and underestimated his liquidity. I don't know how we could have. His statue, attidude, and bad contact were pretty evident. Maybe we thought he'd come off the bench and produce. I know he was a better shooter in Houston. All he gives you is hustle, but I rather give that to Williams as he has the size, is young, and is very cheap, and has potential (is on an upward course, rather then a downward one like K9).

What an exciting return home from work.

Good job front office, because the fans all love passionless mediocre basketball!

This just floors me. The fact that nothing was able to be agreed upon does not mean by any stretch of the imagination that they weren't trying.

Making a trade just to make a trade doesn't do any good.

This isn't a minor failure. Its potentially a monumental one. It could very well be the differnce this offseason between having:

#5-#8 pick, with an outside shot at #1-#3
having $10 mil in caproom to sign a big free agent

or our potential reality of having

#11-#14 pick, with almost no shot at #1-#3
having no cap room to sign anybody for more than the MLE

We get a lesser draft pick (potentially much lesser), we get a lesser free agent (likely much lesser). That is two starters who will not be in our lineup next season. Two potential stars. And so things get harder yet. It beats a bad deal...maybe. But it leaves us with even more mediocre assets, most of whom are depreciating in value almost by the week.

They were unable to pull the trigger today, but to excuse it and think it was because of astute decision making is awfully naive. The Maloofs and GP have been clueless for sometime. The demise of the squad is absolutely attributed to trigger happy moves and bad planning.

There is nothing they could have done today that could have possibly been worse than the mess they've assembled. Unhappy players, mismatched talent and inadequate coaching leadership. Worst of all they've stepped on attitudes and commitment from their players. Not doing something today IMO is going to be fatal in terms of a product worth watching on the floor.

Brilliantly, because of their stupidity, they're a lock for a good draft pick.

I think there is a real risk in both kinds of thinking. While its easy to complain that nothing was done, its also easy to assume that we tried but nothing worked. My fear is that management still has not reconciled itself to a particular strategy and that was a driver behind not getting something done. No one WANTS a bad trade, but it would be nice to see the team committing to a longer term strategy.

I KNOW they were trying. Just nothing came together.
Right they definately were trying as rumors were flying around that the Kings were trying to dump Bibby big time and that is wasn't a matter of if, but to who and for who. Now that it didn't work out, you always have the backlash, coupled with an already group of mismatched parts to lug around for the rest of the season. Add to this the Arena deal trying to be worked out and you have a bad situation where fans don't endorse the product out on the court and can easily see the talent bleed very clearly and the lack of cohesiveness.

While I don't want any trade just for the sake of trading normally. We really needed something at least to get in new blood and drain some off.

Bibby is the highest earning King at $12.5M this year, $13.5M next year both years having opt out clauses, playing at an all time low, and now learns that the team is trying to change direction and he is not in the plans. It will be very interesting to see how this plays out the rest of the year.

It's not like the Maloofs and GP can talk to Bibby and be like..."Syck...we were just playing Dog...we love ya baby!" :p

While I totally understand that there may not have been anything viable out there, I'm still bummed that I have to watch THIS team for another half season. Ugh...

Would rather keep the usual suspects then trade them away for useless salaries with a misguided view at it all. Admittedly, would rather have seen something done, even just moving Jason Hart, but clean out in off season now looks monumental.

That's how I see it, too. Better the evil we know type thing...

And I'm pretty sure the "clean out in off season" is going to be monumental. Hope springs eternal...

GO KINGS!!!
