Nocioni to the celtics rumor

From Amick:

I just got off the phone with Andres Nocioni. He came off as a very affable guy, which is exactly what Bulls beat writer KC Johnson of the Chicago Tribune told me to expect. In short, he says he's packing in Chicago and waiting for his flight directions from the Kings. There has been some question from folks around the league as to whether the Kings would move Nocioni before today's deadline, but it's looking like he's here to stay. Things can always change and sources around the league say quite a few teams have interest - and, yes, that includes Boston (a comment below alluded to it) - but the Kings seem to really like what he can add.

Well, according to Amick - several teams have interest in Noc including the defending world champs... but Petrie is the one who actually acquired him... so wouldn't that actually mean that Petrie is a genius??

Unless of course, you as a fan, consider yourself more knowledgeable than those GMs..

keep in mind everyone that the chad ford rumor stated that WE were pursuing the deal and they were the ones that weren't biting.

Sam's quote "Things can always change and sources around the league say quite a few teams have interest - and, yes, that includes Boston"

Who knows how true all that is however...

What are the top FA's this summer that we can go after. I know the class of 2009 isn't anywhere near what 2010 will be, but we must have a shot a getting one of the top FA's this off season.

Yeah, I'm hoping it's just the party line to boost his value, and Sam has certainly been spoonfed some serious BS in the last 24 hours (i.e. the rumored New Jersey trade)

What makes you think that was BS? He reported it again this morning - that the Bulls deal was held up because New Jersey made a significant play at Miller/Salmons while we were in the middle of finalizing.

Wow, I like this deal. A lot.

We have no use for Nocioni, and he would be a good fit for the Celtics (another rugged defender of sorts who can shoot threes--Posey?). As for us, I'm a little skeptical of doing taking back in more players than we traded out again, but talentwise we should jump on this.

We get four players who have been on the championship scene, so maybe this would lighten the mood in our locker room despite the continual losing. And I like two of them--Tony Allen and Patrick O'Bryant--really much. I think Allen has a lot of potential with his ability to slash to the rim and get to the free throw line, and he brings a sick athlete to the table who can actually get down on his man's grill and D up--there's a lot of potential here, and he's only about 26 years old. Good complement to fellow newcomer McCants, as one can shoot and one can slash. I like him better than Garcia, but we'll talk about that one another day.

I have been intrigued by O'Bryant this season (I don't know why) because I've never seen much potential in years past, but he seems to have a solid foundation of a two-way game (rebounding/shotblocking and scoring in the post) and it's potential worth taking. He'd have to play behind Hawes and Thompson and Diogu and our glut of big men, but it gives us another 7 footer. In fact, hopefully we can sack Mikki Moore's minutes and give it to him, if this trade occurs.

Glen Davis has already peaked (sadly) as a limited offensive player and serviceable defensive player, but that's what he is. I don't really like his game, and with our glut of big men I don't think he's of much use to us--I'd rather convince them to give us Bill Walker, or Gabe Pruitt instead here. Scalabrine is just to make the financial side work out, he's of no use.

I can't believe the Celtics are willing to sacrifice much of their youth for an older player, but maybe that's what it takes to win a championship (questionable IMO though).

All sorts of stuff is thrown out there around the trade deadline, and there were other reports that the Kings made that offer. New Jersey had no incentive at all to do that deal, and I suspect it was the Kings front office either trying to get Chicago to sweeten the deal or to show the fans that they were trying to get a good deal, or both.

Making moves in itself shouldn't impress anyone. The Miller/Salmons deal does nothing except save a few dollars for the Maloofs.

I think it's funny he's getting credit for "not threatening our pick". He's not supposed to, have we got to the stage where we're glad he doesn't screw up?

Anyway, it will take more than trading for no reason to impress me. He has no forseight. The fact that he likes what the 29 y/o on a terrible contract will do for us is testimony to that (who BTW, is occupying a space on front of Greene and possibly Thompson).

Thank you. Well put. However, we must look at this from both points of view. If this is the BEST we could have gotten at this point to balance out the financial part of our franchise as well as get SOMETHING in return, then good job. I don't like the fact that Noc gets in the way of JT / Green's minutes, but from the way it looks like, every player on the Kings would have to get lost on the way to the arena for Donte to get meaningfull minutes. I've watched Noc play for a long time, and he is decent. Not necessarily in decline, just not utilized correctly. When the Bulls made their run a couple of years ago, he averaged something like 25 mins a night providing much what Posey provided for the Celtics.

We are just stuck in a bad situation at a bad financial time. I urge anybody to read JA Adande's column in the Daily Dime. He tries to explain how the financial aspect is affecting how players move, not the talent of those players. Shame, but it's true. I don't think anybody should be expecting for us to be landing some crazy FA and turn it around like Boston.

Maybe we should give McHale a call. I know he's not running the show, but Jefferson is injured... Mikki isn't... I see potential. Look at Brick's sig and everything will be explained.

I thought on a newly acquired player that we could only do a 1 vs. 1 trade not one guy for a bunch of players.

He can be traded for multiple players, just can't be combined with more Kings players. We can send him somewhere, but him alone.

Wondered about that too, but I think the rule is we can only trade him away alone, not combined with players from our side. Not sure what, if any, restrictions there are on the guys coming back for him.

I thought you could trade him, as long as you only trade HIM, you can't include him with previous Kings players...but I don't know if you can do more than 1 vs 1 trades.

I have seen Nocioni's game and it reminds me of Rodman . Either way, he is still learning the game, being from europe has and will hurt his performance on the court, and because of this, he is by nature overpayed. If he matures equally opposite to the way Peja matured in sacramento, the trade for him will be worth John Salmons. I just don't like where he thinks he should play in the NBA, I think he's a PF.

With Brown being traded, maybe we wanted to keep Noci because we've had some "inside" talks with Rubio recently? More international players on the team to make him feel more comfortable, eh eh?

Looks like this might happen!!!

One of the most intriguing deals discussed on deadline day has to be Andres Nocioni winding up with the defending champs.

It's unclear, as the final half-hour before the trade buzzer ticks away, which team actually halted these discussions. We've heard conflicting claims from both teams on who withdrew first.

Yet we do have agreement that the Celtics and Kings talked seriously Thursday about sending Nocioni to the Celts, which seemingly would have been a huge coup for Boston given the hole created by James Posey's departure in the offseason. Nocioni is a rugged, versatile, two-position forward who does a lot of the same stuff.

The deal likely would have required Boston to part with at least four players from its oft-criticized bench: Glen Davis, Brian Scalabrine, Patrick O'Bryant and the injured Tony Allen. Sacramento can only move Nocioni on his own after acquiring him only Wednesday in the Brad Miller/John Salmons deal with Chicago, since players can't be packaged in subsequent deals until 60 days have passed after being traded.

It would figure that the length and cost of Nocioni's contract are what gave the Celtics pause, since Nocioni has three guaranteed years worth more than $20 million left on his deal after this season. That's more money in the same span than Posey will earn from the Hornets, who were able to sign Posey because the Celtics deemed a four-year guaranteed contract too rich to match.

But it must have been tough for the Celts to resist -- if they indeed balked first -- because Nocioni could have filled such a big need.

Hmm, I missed some big international news. When did South American countries become part of Europe?
