Nik & Ben's perimeter shooting...

Absolutely! I just thought that it was the name of the lead singer.

I would like Nik to study how JJ Redick moves without the ball he's always a "live wire" type of player where if you lose him in your peripheral vision or try to help out on D even for a moment he can burn you.

Rough day for Nik tonight, but he has to help himself by moving with and without the ball. He has to do more than just faking the dribble and passing the ball. Hopefully against the Mavs he can get a couple easy baskets to help his confidence; maybe have some plays ran for him to get some open looks. We desperately need his shooting if we are going to have contined success.

Hi VF21!

Yes, my friends are right.

Our correspondence was all strictly English. :)

I simply dedicated a song to Kingston Jamaica - a song by Israeli singer Ehud Banai.

Here's another one, for you -
It's almost all in English, but it's called "The language of the Hebrew man".

I probably jumped the gun, partially because I'd never heard of Ehud Banai. We went through this once upon a time when we had a large number of Serbian posters so I took the opportunity to get the word out.

I am incredibly glad to see so many fans from all over the world joining our little group. And I applaud each of you. I have enough trouble with English sometimes. I can not imagine being able to post on a Jewish board or a Serbian board or any other board where English wasn't the primary language. You guys rock!

Nik is ranked 21 out of 23 in PER among rookies with significant minutes and shoots 25% from 3. I think he should spend some time in Reno. In the meanwhile Omri and Ray can split the 18 minutes Ben is on the bench.

Kings would be better for this season at least, if they drafted KJ McDaniels with the 8th pick.

For that matter the Kings would also be better off had they drafted Payton and signed Terrence Williams instead of Sessions.

I was a big proponent of McDaniels. And the Sixers screwing around trying to get him to commit to a bargain 4 year deal that gave McDaniels no leverage led to him signing a one year deal at the minimum so he'll be a free agent this summer.

lol Nik ain't going to Reno. He'll be fine and probably have some pretty good games this year, and contribute in many. Dude is more than just a shooter.

This team is in win now mode....our rookie is lost and shooting air balls.....we need production and he hasn't produced much of anything. We don't need him to be fine months later or next year, we need him producing now.

And? He's not going to Reno. He's a rookie, deal with it.

Fact of the matter is he doesn't get the touches really to impact the game, granted the few touches he does get have been misses so far and his defense is lacking, but it'd be nice to see him more involved in the corner action just to get his feet wet and at least a bit of confidence in his play.

Kings are 6-4 with a brutal road heavy schedule.

They do not need him to contribute now. It'd be nice. Last year they needed Ben to contribute (if there was to be a playoff run, which was not actually the goal last year) since Thornton did not (blame for the barren SG position last season should rightly fall on MT). Ben wasn't ready, the team suffered. Nik is not in the same "forced to start" cause the veteran quit trying situation at all. The team was in such a state of flux that Ben struggling wasn't quite as terrible as it seemed at the time, seen by his improved play now.

Ready to contribute now rookies are a dying breed. Nik is no exception. He's a good player with all the same potential he had before, but he could have used another year or two in college. But that is not how it works anymore. Talent gets grabbed whether the kid is ready or not. And despite him bulking up, he still has a kid's body.

We just went through this with Ben, it's paying off now. Patience. It's ten games in. He'll get his chances in lower pressure situations when the schedule relents a bit.

Your making my point....a ready to contribute rookie. We really could use a vet backing up that spot....a vet who can play defense and shoot right now. The fact is the kid is a year away from contributing so why not add a guy. How many games have we put in the reserve backcourt and our lead has just gone away? There is no reason why we can't be patient with Nik sitting more than he is. Heck, I was being patient with Ben last year because the goal was not making the playoffs...we weren't ready. This year this team has the chance to make the playoffs. We need a better reserve backcourt. That has nothing to do with being patient with Nik, that has more to do with being better now. Everyone knows Nik isn't ready, I'm not going to HOPE that Nik turns it around. HOPE is not a plan. You have to consider that the kid doesn't get it going, let alone turn it around....because he hasn't produced at this level and may never produce at this level.

You can't just "add a guy." Kings are capped out.

Sure, they could use a vet SG. But they don't have one and it'll cost them to get one. Is it worth it? I don't think the short term gains are worth it, nor would it be significantly impactful.

Hope? I said nothing about hope. Nice straw man. I don't hope he gets better this year, nor do I expect it. I'd be surprised if he doesn't improve though. The value of this season for him is mostly in practice and in just being around an NBA team and all that entails.

Nik plays 15mpg. Often less. He's really not a key part of the team at the moment. It's not time to start thinking that he'll never make it. How much less time can he really play?

Our 9th/10th man is far down the list of problems this team has.

People even gave Jimmer more than 10 games before declaring him a disaster. What was it? 11 games? Or 12? ;)

I don't want Nik anywhere near Reno.

Are you willing to lose a playoffs spot because of him? Because at this stage, he's the worst player on the Kings (worst PER & among the worst defenders) and in games decided by a few points having better players taking his minutes could make the difference between losing and winning. Does anyone think the Kings have a better chance of winning with Nik taking the backup SG minutes instead of having them split by Omri and Ray? In the long run, the Kings may miss the playoffs by a single game (as happens almost every year to at least one team). Stauskas may not have a huge difference in the success of the team, but his poor performance may be the deciding factor in some scenarios.

There's no shame in playing in the D-League. Just ask players like Danny Green, Jeremy Lin and many others. The D in D-League stands for Development, and is exactly what Stauskas needs now. It would be far better to everyone involved if he went to Reno for a while instead of just making it more difficult for the Kings to win games.

Dude, those 15 minutes per game are not a key part? Maybe not starting but 15 minutes is a big chunk of the game.....enough to help blow leads and lose games. Sessions and Nik have been bad to this point......especially on defense. Real hard to have a 2 bad defensive guards in the same time.

Lose a playoff spot? Cause of Nik? I'm not sure going with no SGs on the bench would make us better. Neither Ray or Omri are SGs. Suddenly you have guys out of position. That's not going to help the bench at all.

I don't want to send ANYONE to Reno. Ever. I'm pissed Moreland is there. No one will get "developed" there. Nik would launch a minimum of ten threes a game in that system (more like 12-15). In Reno, it's the E-league. As in experimental. If anyone thinks Nik would learn anything there about defense you are mistaken. The goal there is to unlearn fundamental basketball.

I'll just give the benefit of the doubt that you all aren't aware of what is occurring in Reno. Cause sending Nik to Reno is a truly awful idea.

My how things have changed in a month. A month ago everyone wanted to send Ben to Reno and start Nik. It's time to stop the overreactions to every game.

I retract my suggestion. I actually wasn't aware of what's going on in Reno. WTF? Sending Nik back to college or to Europe would make more sense than this crap ;)

I'll tell you, signing rudy makes playoffs or bust this season much less the scenario.

Yeah, Reno is a mess. Normally, I'd be for it, I would really prefer Europe or almost anywhere else at this point.

Nik isn't the problem with this team. Why are we focusing on someone that plays around 5 minutes a half, and takes about one shot a half. His defense, while not perfect, is hardly responsible for our losses. Our main problem is the lack of a legit backup center. Last night Malone took a different approach to the problem and it worked. At least for one night. He went to a three man rotation of Cousins, JT, and Landry. Trying to keep either JT or Cousins on the floor at all times. It worked, and will continue to work as long as neither Cuz and JT don't get into serious foul trouble.

Prior to that, we got killed when the second unit was on the floor because the tallest players we had on the floor were 6'8"tall. Evans trying to guard Gasol or Nowitzki is a disaster waiting to happen. I agree, getting nothing out of Stauskas doesn't help, but if you want something out of him, then pass him the ball. Get him involved. Sessions is the bigger culprit, many times ignoring everyone else and constantly driving to the basket, many times into a crowd and throwing up wild shots. I've lost count of how many times Stauskas has been open on the perimeter and was ignored. A shooting guard has to, by definition, shoot the ball. If you don't touch it, you can't shoot it. How can you get into a rhythm when you only take one shot. If you miss, your suddenly a bad shooter. Eventually your collar will start to get tight because if you miss that one shot, your probably not going to get another one. Cousins, Gay, Collison, etc don't have to worry about that. Neither does Sessions, since he has the ball everytime it comes up the floor.

It's hard for me to say what Stauskas should do, because I don't know for sure what their asking him to do when he goes out on the floor. It appears as if he's being used to open the floor by setting up in one corner or the other. As I said, he's excellent at running the pick and roll, but for some reason they don't go to him, despite the few times he's done it, its been successful. In short, Stauskas has a lot to learn, and he needs to get a lot stronger, but he's not the main problem with this team. Lack of talented height in the second unit is.
