Nice comments from Jarrett Jack about Coach Malone

I was reading some of the Cleveland papers this morning. I always like to read what the team we just played writes about the game. Anyway one article was about Malone and Brown and Jarrrett Jack made the below comments I thought I would share to those that may not have read it.

Cavs guard Jarrett Jack was with Malone in Golden State and loved working with him.
"Tremendous, somebody who pushed me every day, never let me settle,'' Jack said. "He was a brilliant basketball mind. Him being around the game from such a young age with his dad, he knew how to relate to players. He treated you like a man but also still gave you criticism whenever necessary. … I have a lot of close, personal friends on Sacramento, and since they've been under his tutelage they say he's been nothing but a joy to play under. … The thing I liked about him was he didn't pull any punches. He treated everybody the same. If you were somebody in the wrong, he was going to let you know.''
How did Jack know Malone would become a head coach?
"I think you just see it,'' he said. "Me being with him, the trust factor that the head coach had in him in certain instances. … I think he's a proven commodity. He's come from different places and has been that right-hand man to every head coach he's been around. I think that speaks volumes as well.

If you watch Malone with the players all during the game, he's always motivating. He doesn't ignore them; he doesn't forget to give them attaboys. He didn't shut down last night even when we were up by 40+. He was still coaching, urging the players to do their best. I am more and more impressed with him every time I see him.

I'd love to see News10 do a feature on Coach Mike Malone, highlighting a lot of the stuff you only see if you're there in person.

Well we just won three in a row, so I am feeling much better about the direction of this team. Everyone on the team looks better. Even Jimmer is becoming very crafty and productive. Unfortunately Thornton can't get out of his shooting slump. Other than that I would have to say Malone is doing a good job. Lets see what we can do on the road.

Come join us Jack! Get out of the hell-hole in Cleveland!
The guy I want from Cavs is actually Waiters, if he can be had on the cheap. There seem to be a serious rift between him and Kyrie Irving as Waiters believes there's a double standard in treatment of the two of them by Brown and FO, that he feels is not warranted. Cavs fans seem to in large believe that he's giving 50% effort at best. And remembering his last visit to Sacramento, there might be something.

Malone is going to be a big time coach, you can already tell. Hopefully him and Cuz are the next Pop and Duncan!

Lol That's like saying you want Rudy Gay to be Michael Jordan...
Malone is great and all and will probably be a really good coach but there's probably 1 coach in front of Pop of all time if you want to consider rings and all....

No, it's dreaming in technicolor. Demarcus Cousins is clearly going to be a player for the ages. Why not dare to dream that he and Mike Malone could build something truly wonderful?

I truly don't understand the need to always use the "lol" accompanied by some kind of sarcastic reply.

The journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step.

Jack wants to be a King.

I'm pretty sure he made a derogatory comment about Sacramento a season or two ago, I doubt he wants to be here. Plus his game has fallen off this year, a lot. Most Cavs fans hate seeing him on the court. I don't want him.

Um, if we used that as a criteria for accepting players from other teams, we would never have gotten Chris Webber. ;)

To be fair, most Cleveland fans are delusional after years of heartbreak and busted draft picks.

Its nice that JJ is showing respect for his former Coach.

As for playing with the Kings Jack is making around 6 million a year for 3 more seasons after this one. 30 years old, 11 ppg average for 8 years, is he worth his deal?

In addition to sucking at drafts, the Cavs suck at contracts as well

"Lol" is a common phrase that young people use.
It is indicating that I was laughing out loud at the specific comment....
Not sure what's so confusing about that.
It's universal.
Now, my question: What do you have against my friend, "lol" ???

Pertaining to your response, while it is possible that Cousins becomes an all time great player like Timmy Duncan....
I don't see the potential of Malone becoming the next Pop aka best coach of all time, in my opinion. The chances are slim to none. It would be like saying Cousins has chance to become best player of all time...slim.
Again, this is all subjective as is everyone's comment on this board. It's ignorant of someone to try to prove me wrong when I am only stating an opinion rather than demanding that I am right.
After all, this is America where everyone's voice counts no matter how much one disagrees with it :D

Well, Pop is a great coach, but for the best of all time I have other names in my mind. Pop has been great, but he's always had very good teams. Lot of credit to the man behind it, RC Buford. Tony Parker 28th pick, Manu 57th, Leonard 15th, Splitter 28th. That's a great organization, and Pop is the right coach for them. But like I said I wouldn't say he's the best of all time.

well, Buford and Pop make all operational decisions together, so some of the credit for building that team has to go to him, as well. also, no great coach ever won without having a great team. just look at the players Jackson, Auerbach or Riley won with.

edit: not claiming that Pop is the greatest coach ever, btw, just pointing out that it's a really difficult discussion to have.

No he is not worth the deal if you only value players by how many ppg they average. Thabo sefalosha averaged 8 points 5 years ago. That was his best year. A player that can play two positions on both ends of the court has value. Petrie only looked at ppg as well

Don't be obtuse. Lol is almost always used in a sarcastic tone when followed by a statement that contradicts the original one. Know your I-grammar, kiddo.

If anyone noticed after the Cleveland game, some of the players came over to congrat Malone as he had coached there....what struck me was Varejao and Malone embracing. Clearly a ton of respect between the 2 and you could tell that Varejao appreciated Malone.....and it was multiple embraces by the 2....like they were happy to see each other but sad that they were going their separate ways after the game.

Nice link in the OP, Malone clearly has that it factor and can balance cracking the whip but also the awareness to understand when an athlete needs the pat on the back and does it all in a way that isn't fake....has a passion for the team and players but also holds them accountable.

I watched Jack play quite a bit last year with the Warriors and I thought he was great off the bench for them. Sure he does more than score, that is all I mentioned in that post so I understand your comment.

Am I to surmise you like him at 6 million a year? I am not sure which is why I asked the question.

I
Believe Thornton's performance so far is also a great reflection of Malone's coaching ability - Marcus is shooting less and playing within the system more. MT is not supposed to be a main scorer as a starter and he is seldom forcing up shots - that's what the coach wants and the team needs, and is working.

my thinking is we need backup pg and defensive sg. he is both. 1 player 6 mil or 2 at 3 mil?

He made that a while ago, but if his comments about Coach Malone are any indication he'd be more than happy to come here and play for him. Shows how far the "culture change" has meant in some ways.
