There we go. Loved the third down play before the score. Made time with his feet, but didn’t force anything more and hit Hasty for the first. I fully expected him to happy-feet into a 4th and short.

Needs more arc. Guilty of those Kap line drive outs that got picked over n over again.

For sure. developing touch is major key. It wasn’t a difficult play, but was very happy to see him throw with a little touch to Hasty on that 3rd down play. He didn’t laser it into a guy 5 yards away from him.

Oh lord the Saints took the lead. No clinch this week, imagine Jim coming back too early and costing us the playoffs with a bum hand stinker next week.

What an encouraging 2H after a near disasterous 1H. Really think Trey just needs the continued reps to keep getting better. Upside already far superior to that of Jim.

Overall, you could see Trey get better almost quarter to quarter. Once Shanny finally opened things up a bit and wasn't throwing designed run after designed run as the Texans clearly sold out to stop, he started running the offense pretty well after his INT. And man, you just see the difference on the ball getting to receivers quickly and not a lame duck they have to pull up on. The Deebo throw was perfect and honestly the Kittle catch would have been a TD too, had he not gotten bumped off his route on the DPI.

Lance passes look like shot ducks

I would be more than happy to eat it sooner rather than later but I haven’t been feeling the kid since the beginning. Pretty much when on draft day everybody was all excited and then they dropped the “they got their man….his passing can use some improvement” I became quite skeptical that we got a franchise QB..atleast not one with any significant shelf life.

Yeah I'm catching Kaepernick vibes from Lance moderately. He holds the ball much too long, but will give him next season......they won['t beat the Rams next week with today's effort. Defense: A-, Offence C-.........that gift call on the clear fumble after interception affected the game.

No, we thought it was the Texans sucking more so.

He's showing many of Kaepernick's bad tendencies....luckily he's a step quicker Kaepernick. Lance had some awful plays earlier - the decision to throw on 4th and 1 when he could clearly gain the 1st down, and the 3rd and 8 where he pulled up a yard shy of the marker. Bad decisions.
The Texans started wilting in the secondary in the second half. Receivers were getting open and Lance was getting a bit more time from his Pass Protection. Not going to a FG around the 30 was a very poor decision by Shanahan who had a poor game decision making. Luckily for the 49ers the Texans suck this year.

49ers seem unlikely to beat the Rams, and sad that it would take help from the Falcons to vanquish a Saints team looking worse than the 49ers.
That Dolphins loss was dog-hair.

Meanwhile the Chiefs crud defense shows back up opening the door for the Chiefs having to play Wild Card weekend......that was the most satisfying result of the day.....Chase burned the Chiefs in particular outrunning their whole secondary convincingly. There is hope for the Chiefs to get bounced in AFC playoffs. - especially with the way the defense pooed.

Dude just had his second NFL start, his third full game of football in 2 years and you’re picking him apart like this. Lmao, dude improved greatly after a disastrous first half and you cannot ask for much more. There’s clearly tools there.

Agreed - and I think "disastrous" is a bit rough - other than the pick he looked like a pretty decent rookie QB to me.

Here's the top QB ratings for the past 2 weeks:

1 Joe Burrow Cincinnati Bengals 145.6
2 Patrick Mahomes Kansas City Chiefs 123.7
3 Dak Prescott Dallas Cowboys 118.8
4 Trey Lance San Francisco 49ers 116.0
5 Aaron Rodgers Green Bay Packers 114.9

Yeah, it's only 1 game played for Trey, but I like this kind of company and like you said he hasn't played much at all this "rookie" year. I'll take this and hope he can just keep working to build on the experience.

Those easy check downs, you'd expect Trey to execute. It's the 10 to 15 yard outs that Trey needs to figure out. He had one pick and one near pick at the end of the half. Kap had the same issue. Towards the end of his Niners tenure, the entire league ran zones against Kap and dared him to throw in between the zones. There was that Cardinals game where Kap threw four interceptions on the same out play. Afterwards, the Cards were like, yea, we just sat on Kap's line drive throws to the outside: https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.c...elaborates-on-issues-with-49ers-passing-game/

In the 2H, I don't recall another out throw. So in addition to more touch, maybe he's recognizing it (or Shanny is not calling it). Progress. Will take it. Especially if we don't see Jimmy G and his tendency to throw 1 to 3 picks a game in between the hashes and within 15 yards.

Damn right - 3 first round picks! I see Kaepernick here until he show's otherwise. He even postures like Kaepernick. I don't like the tendencies I see - give him a (small) chance to improve this and next season, but he doesn't look good right now. I didn't even talk about his throwing inaccuracy and ball-holding. I saw too many bonehead plays. He's gonna be eaten alive by the Rams pass-rush. Guessing 4+ sacks and possible interceptions.

Lance missed a quick throw at line of scrimmage late in the game when it didn't matter.
The 2nd half the Texans defense looked out-of-it and folded in the 4th quarter. The fumble (forward progress) call was absolutely ridiculous - that changed the outcome of the game. 49ers defense played very well as expected. Even Thomas had a decent game stunningly; Johnson looks somewhat better than Thomas - he had a terrible Pass Interference call against in the 2nd half. Game goes to defense.

The 49ers must win vs the Rams - the Falcons beating the Saints isn't something to bank on. Then their gift if beating the Rams is likely playing them in the Wild Card.

Shanny has McVey's number, but it's going to be a tough game.

A few years ago, they attacked the Rams interior on running plays. Pushing Donald upfiled than doubling him with a tight end coming across (mostly).

In the last game, the Niners attacked the edge with their running game. Thereby nullifying Donald inside and Miller's ability to sit back and rush the passer. And, particularly, they attacked Miller's side all game. Lance has a long release and is slower on his reads, so we'll see if the QB change will allow Miller to get to him.

On defense, hoping for a bad version of Stafford. Otherwise Niners are going to get like 4 PIs.

I think the Rams go all out this game simply because Shanny has McVey's number. Don't want to see the Niners in the WC.

I can't tell you what the outcome will be exactly, but it will likely not be a blowout by either team and guessing on low scoring - similar to Texans - turnovers as usual with good defenses are key. See what the 49ers O-Line does on run-blocking. I do think favored by 6 is probably a fair line. Stafford has thrown some of the worst interceptions in the league this year. 49ers need more consistency from their offense to win - and Shanahan needs to stop his Staley impersonations on 4th downs. He doesn't seem to understand that punting is a good alternative when your defense is strong, and FGs are ok and have their place.in the game. At the close of the half - they were out of timeouts and playing with fire on the Texans game, getting lucky with a reception on the sideline. They had 45 yard FG opportunity with 20 some seconds left. They eeked out some yards but it was ill-advised, and got an shorter FG, but I thought it risky Coaches are so greedy nowadays with 4th downs. Unbelievably you now see going for 4ths prior to 50 (own field) fairly often.

All is well, the Chiefs lost, and now face playing a Wild Cards possibly against the Chargers - a team with the offense to challenge them. Chiefs getting booted would make my day. That Chase TD was nothing short of awesome when he cut up the middle for 50 or 60 yards. Luckily when the Niners played em Chase had a poor game.

"ZOMG WHY ISN"T HE RUSS WILLSON IN HIS 2ND CAREER START LOOOOLLZZZ"

I don't think he's ready yet, but like you said he showed clear tools. His superb arm strength and his ability to create time in the pocket really stood out. He missed a few throws extremely badly, but a good chunk of his misses were also low, which is vastly preferred to missing high. And once Shanny ditched the "high school offense where they coach doesn't trust the QB to pass the ball" and opened things up, Lance started to make some great throws and the offense started putting up good drives/points.
