They did acquire Kessler Edwards. It remains to be seen just how "small a move" this will prove to be. We may not know until next season.
well, his chair didn’t fly away last night. So he’s holding it down.

The reverse is also true, as far as I can tell. Could you confidently say that those other teams were better than the KINGS at full strength before the deadline? Perhaps, perhaps not.
All I know is the KINGS are ahead of those teams after 55 games played, whatever the reasons may be.
Also, as they say, injuries are part of the equation. They happen every season.
Perhaps the KINGS were actually better than some of these other teams last season and in other season but the injury toll didn't make it so.
It works both ways.

The Kings have been quite lucky, knock on wood. And right now the biggest thing between the real teams and the not is consistent scoring depth. It might have been proven already, the Kings don't have the upper level talent depth to sustain ANY injury this season to their star and maintain. This is what separates a team like the Clippers. They can fudge around with how they work someone like Kawhi back in and not fall off the planet since they have defenders and scorers to help pick up the slack. Without Fox this team turns into one where the question is what level of aggressive Harrison Barnes are we getting tonight? 9 shot Barnes and you're toast.
I imagine we'll have a lot more clarity on how much Edwards can help the bench unit in just a few weeks. They did acquire Kessler Edwards. It remains to be seen just how "small a move" this will prove to be. We may not know until next season.
Or that sense of urgency is why those teams are not having a 16-year playoff drought? Honestly I am bit surprised Monte didn't do a single thing to solidify our position given we are having the best chance in 16 years to reach the playoffs. It's not like he treasures those 2nd picks anyway.Gotcha. I agree.
While it's definitely disappointing to see all these other teams making moves while the KINGS stand pat -- I also believe being patient and prudent trumps making moves for the sake of shaking things up.
Clearly all these teams making moves are in a bit of "panic mode". Not that they aren't good teams, but they clearly don't believe they have enough. And let's be real -- not ALL these deals are going to workout for ALL teams involved. That's not possible.
The KINGS clearly believe they don't have to force a deal. Which is good. If the deal ain't right, they can afford to be patient. They have a good young roster and, as the old adage goes, "Rome wasn't built in a day" even though many of us wish it could be.

Kevin Durant is 34. Chris Paul is 37. They just lost Cameron Johnson, who will be 27 next month, and Mikal Bridges, who is 26. These guys should be buying retirement homes in Sun City by the end of the year.
Same can be said for the Lakers w/o LBJ or AD.
Id give my left nut for Kevin Durant are you kidding lol. Can you imagine if we somehow could have pulled that off and still kept fox, Murray And Sabonis, witch is pretty much what the Suns just did. I would be buying my championship tix
People keep saying "fools gold" with regard to the KINGS current standing.
Thing is, it's been 55 games or essentially 66% of the season. It's not just the first month of the season or something. It's a pretty large sample size.
Now, they may fade some or a lot. Or some other teams may improve and pass them up by seasons end. Or the KINGS might indeed capture a top 6 seed then underwhelm in the postseason for whatever reason(s).
But it sure ain't "fools gold".
That said, I sure wish they could have landed Thybulle, OG or Plumlee. But apparently McNair wasn't willing to part with any of the current core and/or these other teams were just asking too much.
3rd place is definitely fools gold. They're a playoff caliber team but they definitely aren't the 3rd best team in the west by the end of the season.
When the playoffs come and teams put the defensive clamps on, it'll become apparent that the Kings need a lot of improvement because the Kings don't have the clamps to put on when the time comes. They just simply don't have the defensive potential with this current crop of players. It's like a baseball team with a top offense and no pitching. They'll sink come playoff time but I'm okay with that. A first round sweep is a huge success for this franchise right now.
Which would explain all the huge moves made by the two teams above us in the standings.Im very disappointed we didn't make a move. Like I was saying in the other chat, The Good Teams make moves while they are on top with the leverage, not when the suck and the value of the players are low.
It makes no sense to move Barnes. There weren't takers and it would probably break chemistry and we wouldn't get an equal player in return given his age/contract status.

A lot of teams made panic moves, some of them are going to work out and they might leap frog us this year. I don't see any move that was made with a 3+ year horizon in mind except from the teams that were sellers today.
Since we are neither a team in a win or bust mode nor are we a team that should sell to restock the cupboards for 2-3 years down the road, it makes sense that we just did some light tinkering and kicked the can. Not only did the top 3 teams in the West do little business, the top 4 teams in the East ahead of Brooklyn didn't take homerun swings today either.
Celtics: Mike Muscala
Bucks: Jae Crowder
Sixers: Sellers to get out of tax
Cavs: stood pat

Yeah...This offseason is most likely going to tell it all...If we nail it, we're not only a playoff team for years to come, but also a legit long-term threat and contender, at least out West, but very likely in the entire league as well. If we swing and miss (badly), we're either going to hover around the same area we are currently in, or will see some kind of a decline at some point in the next handful of years. This is probably the first year in Sacramento where players have clearly established roles in the starting 5 (really top 8 of the rotation.) If you're looking to improve the roster, it needs to be something that pushes someone FROM the starting 5 into the next 3. The most likely candidate on the roster is Barnes. I think that move has to happen in the off-season because if not, you're giving up Barnes PLUS a pick to make the upgrade right now.
My gut says Monte probably wants to see how this unit performs in the playoffs, and then make moves accordingly. We do need another player who can cook when Fox is out. We need a backup 5 (low-key bummed we didn't get someone like Plumlee or Hartenstein) that can run the offense in the half-court when Domas is out. Also, that player needs to be the right kind of guy who plays the team game, which makes the request that much more challenging.

Do I think our roster is that? No. But we are. And you don't go upsetting the balance and jeopardize the future just to hang onto that spot. Moving Barnes right now would jeopardize things. I don't think he is untouchable but you're not getting better trading Barnes today 9 out of 10 times. It's a move 2-3 years in the future, so we may as well make that type of move in the offseason.Sir with all due respect, we are kidding ourselves if we think we have the top 3 west team here.
No, but I don't see a major improvement either. It would be more of a lateral move, and I'm not sure we want to make lateral moves. We want to make moves to improve the roster. Lateral moves are way too risky, and can mess with chemistry. We're a legitimate playoff team for the first time in years - now is not the time to mess with chemistry in hopes of "nailing it" if you already have something that works. Why do you see this? I dont see Fox or Sabonis or Murray getting any worse no matter what we do. We dont need to trade those guys. But the other guys around him should be free game. Question, Do you see a big drop off if we took Huerter out and put Monk in his place?
Sir with all due respect, we are kidding ourselves if we think we have the top 3 west team here. We have had the amazing luck of Health This Year. We lost fox one game and lost to the lowley Pelicans who where missing 3 star players.
A wise man once said, you are who your record says you are, and I agree, we have some good pieces on this team, but everyone knows we need that 3rd guy on this team. Murrays not ready yet. Barnes is never going to be that guy.
People sell there future all the time and id take a proven vet over a unproven rookie 9 out of 10 times, especially with our luck. And Chemistry is over rated! Talent Triumphs Chemistry any day of the week

That was Hilarious lol the ol velvet and the Whale tale.
LA Brought In Lebron and won the championship right away.
Brooklyn for all there faults still made it further than we have in 16 years and where injured when they had there big 3 common now. Who knows how special that team could have been. I said Talent not Head Cases.
We are also talking about role players not our two stars. Role Players sir. I disagree that we cant get better than Barnes, esp if we throw in Off Season.
Id dam near take Bey over Barnes, I can name 5 easy within our range that id take over Barnes, some that have been on trade block.
Now regarding Monk. A bobby Jackson aint exactly a bad thing even when starting. If hes Bobby Jackson, Who the heck is Huerter?
I didnt say we start Monk, Simply, how big of a drop off is it between Huerter and Monk is all.Bobby Jackson wasn't Bobby Jackson precisely because he wasn't starting.
LOVE this post and perspective. No one expected us to be here. A bunch of Laker-like panic moves from our front office as if we’re in a video game would have been fun but only for a few hours.Getting past the Grizzlies and Nuggets this year would be a tall order if we hung onto 3 and advanced to the second round.
I don't think we should mortgage our future because some teams behind us with aging stars went all in to try to save themselves against the young upstarts. Look at how that has worked for a team like Minnesota that pushed chips in too early.
The West might be a wasteland in 2-3 seasons when we'd be entering the equivalent of 2002 if we keep this core together and make smart, timed, and well informed personnel decisions.
